There's probably 5 empty tables too. Smoking is allowed at the bar about 30 feet from the tables. Tons of room between tables but were playing 9-handed now and it feels full. Not sure how we could fit another person.

I could take a picture of the chips but I'm not see how to post it from my Android phone.

Appreciate the update. The only way to post a picture is to upload it to a photo sharing website like Flickr and then post the link to the picture here, with the image tags on it. There's probably an app for uploading a pic directly from your phone.

Disappointing they're allowing smoking close to the room. Is it bothersome or can you not really smell it? Also can you find out the hourly comp rate and whether or not alcohol is free to active players?

4-8 Limit seems a high starting point to train newbie players. Most rooms have 2-4 or 3-6 tables to break in the new fish.

Hopefully there is some STRONG ventilation going on between the bar and the tables. It would be HIGHLY disappointing if the smoke is allowed to filter throughout the room.

The problem is that 2-4 and 3-6 are not breaking in new fish that will move higher. The reason is that the stakes are so low, that it's impossible to overcome the rake. I've played the 3-6 a couple times at Delaware Park while waiting for a higher game to start and I can tell you for sure that it's not uncommon to look around and see everyone is a loser at the table. Only the house wins. Sure someone might get lucky in 1 session, but it's highly unlikely to win a couple in a row when the rake is higher then the SB. So, I really think having a higher limit like 4-8, or even 6-12, as the lowest available makes more sense for keeping games in the long run because it gives the players a chance to win and they can then start climbing the structure ladder to higher games. If no one wins, then no one moves up.

Just for some background, when I started playing, $5-10 was the first game I ever played. At that time the Vegas casinos all had a $3 rake. So, you could easily overcome the rake if you were an average player. It took me many tries/trips, but I eventually started winning and slowly moved up. If I started at $2-4 with a $5 rake, I guarantee I never would have won and I never would have moved up and I probably wouldn't be playing poker at all today. The extremely low limit games are bad for the longevity of limit poker. It's one of the reasons I think limit is become less popular every year.

Just my opinion...

Not sure why or how my post got deleted, may have never gone through actually.

The smoking is bad news. How bad is it in the actual poker room? can't wait to hear some reports from those who went today.

Alcohol is not free. Even bottlesof water are $1. I'm pretty close to the bar and one older guy said he could smell it. I'm a smoker when playing so it doesn't bother me at all. Not sure 9f the comps. Responding to someone else I saw the 2/5 playing from $200 to around $800 stacks.

Thanks for the update.

That is REALLY a downer about the smoke. If I can smell it, then they've lost my business. Yeah they won't lose sleep over me I know but I'll say it anyway. What a shame.

Did 5/10 get running yet?

Dont be so judgemental about the smoking area at the bar which is 30 feet away. Just try to be seated away from the Bar.

ShowBoat's poker room. The smoking bar was about 30 feet away from the poker room and you can NOT smell any smoke.

If I can't smell it fine. I've been in Showboat's current room and I agree with you, you can't smell smoke from the tables. The problem with smoke for me is that it literally gives me headaches to the point that I can't deal with it.

It might be the difference between a normally "smoke free" building and one that has been adjusted to account for smoke with proper ventilation. Knowing the other Parx building I'm not sure I have a lot of faith in Parx East's ventilation system.

More "smoke-gate" reviews would be welcome. Lol!

But, for the non-smokers, hope the ventilations are good enough to block the smoke from coming into the poker tables.

I do smoke so i don't mind. Especially in the winter.

People are of course welcome to be judgmental about it. But I do find it amusing that some posters have delusions that anyone cares whether they think slots players should be allowed to smoke on the casino floor. Your typical slots player is 55+ yrs old, 55+ lbs overweight, has 55% of her teeth, and smokes 55 cigarettes per day. This is the casino's ideal customer. The casino is going to do whatever it can to make this person comfortable while this person feeds her disability/pension/social security checks into the slot machine. That includes allowing smoking.

In a perfect world, smoking wouldn't be allowed anywhere but outdoors. But many private establishments still have the right to allow smoking on their premises. You can't blame Ari for his superiors doing the right thing for the bottom line. If the poker room is smoke-free, that's good enough for me and should be good enough for anyone who doesn't have a serious allergy to cigarette smoke.

EDIT to add: The point about the Showboat's room is a good one. I never smelled smoke there and the bar that is very close to the poker room allows smoking.

I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of game variety Parx gets this weekend and how it compares to DP's game variety. I'm hoping to see some LHE, PLO, and O8 games.
