Can someone tell me roughly how many people usually enter the $100+$20 Tuesday night tournaments? Thanks.

Does it usually go on the weekends? I sat it last Saturday and for a little while it looked like there might be two tables. Are Friday/Saturday nights good bets for it?

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ updated 2013.03.18

Made the final table of the 7:00 tourney last night. Also made the final table of the Borgata 7:00 tourney Monday night. I bring that up because the Borgata daily tournies' structures are so much better than those of Parx. Even if Parx didn't want to make it 15K starting stack like Borgata, they could at least include the extra levels. 4000/8000 went right to 6000/12000. Would it be that tough to add the 5000/10000 level? Or the 500/1000 level? Or even the 75/150 level to add some play in the beginning?

This will probably fall on deaf ears since most people don't really care about structure in a tournament like that, but after going card dead, having a table of people saying "argh that kid keeps stealing the blinds, don't fold to him!", and people stalling with 11 left, there's not much you can do with a 100K stack when the blinds go from 4K/8K to 6K/12K to 8K/16K and you're now at 60K from blinds and antes.

But anyway, if anyone reads this and cares at all, I don't see what the problem with adding those extra levels would be...I don't think the tourney would last THAT much longer but that little bit of extra play can make the difference.

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ updated 2013.03.18

New to this thread.

Has anyone gone to the horse racing? Am I able to just go to the track, walk in (free of charge) and hang out and watch a few races?

I'm new to the area and have never been to a horse race -- assuming they are racing today?

They race Saturday to Tuesday, no charge to get in and you can go right outside and watch. Usual post time is I believe 12:25 pm. Good luck and enjoy, it's a nice track.

Awesome, thanks. Do I just park at the casino and then walk through the casino to get to the track or is there a separate entrance?

Also, not sure you can answer, but as far as the betting goes, if you actually attend the track in person, do they have the racing forms available for free or do you have to buy them?

Racing form being the information for each race that shows the past performances of each horse for each race.

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ updated 2013.03.18

The racetrack is in the same building as the poker room (Parx East), it's not part of the main casino. Follow signs to park by Parx East and go in there; the track is on the ground level, there are ample betting windows there and you can walk straight outside to view the races close up. Right where you enter the building, they sell programs. You can buy one either for Parx only or for Parx and other tracks (you can bet on tracks across the US via simulcast and watch all the races). The Parx only program is the cheaper one. The racing form is a separate publication that has more detailed info on tracks around the country, prob not necessary for your purposes. The program has all the past performance info you need. But if you want to buy the racing form they sell them too.

If you've never bet at the window and need a primer let me know. I know way too much about this topic as I spent many high school weekends at Parx (then Philly park) betting horses.

I've never been to a live racing event. I have done some horse betting online several years ago so I slightly know how to read the past performances.

I guess my first visit would be to scope out the environment and get comfortable with what is going on, and just enjoy the day watching the races. I guess I'm wondering what I would do in the breaks between each race as it seems like there is quite a bit of downtime.

Do you know how much the Parx forms are? I'd consider buying one of them just to follow along and make my own marks and see how I end up.

I also probably wouldn't spend the entire day there. Maybe just watch a few races for the experience.

I'll keep it brief so as not to derail the thread with too much horse talk. Pm me with other questions. Definitely buy a Parx program. It's like 1.75 for Parx only; going to the track is pretty pointless without one. If you want something to do between races, u can always bet simulcast at other tracks (that's what I do lol). If not, go outside and hang at the stable, you can see them walk around the horses for next race and get a look at them early. Have a drink at the bar. Buy a cigar and smokeit outside. Study the program and handicap the next race. It goes quickly. Definitely bring a pen to note scratches on the program.

When you bet at the window, say the following: name of track, dollar amount of bet, type of bet and horse numbers (not names). Ie Parx, 2 dollars to win on four.

Have fun!

I walked up there to check it out. I didn't expect there to be as many people as there was. I've been looking at their live report on their website to see which games are running and it seemed wrong.

Stakes seem to be higher than other places. I'd probably stick to 4-8 Limit since I haven't played poker in awhile.

Does 4-8 run often? Do they offer smaller stakes? Is 4-8 the one where the SB is $2 and BB $4? That is what I used to play in Salamanca a few years ago. I can't remember if it was labeled 4-8.

I went to the racetrack on Sat and Sun. I didn't stay for the entire day as the wind was annoying and I was getting cold, and staying inside didn't really appeal to me.

I was pretty happy to have hit my first winner on Sunday, Race 4.

It was also pretty fun to analyze the races and not feel good about a certain horse and decide to not play it, then at race time everyone was pulling so hard for the horse, and I'm just standing there like, "yeah that's why I didn't put any money on that one even though it appeared like a strong horse." Probably results-oriented, but feels good.

4-8 runs fairly often (I'm not sure when it starts, but probably early morning or no later than lunch), and runs past dinner and often to late night. I think it runs 7 days a week too.

Yes, it's $2 SB and $4 BB.

That is the smallest limit game that runs.

Sweet. That's probably what I'll be looking to play. I usually take $100, which usually seemed to be more than enough.

Anyone else finding the free wifi(while great to have) is slowing up the games? My last three sessions I've even noticed a few dealers getting visibly annoyed about having to tell players repeatedly that its their turn, post the blinds, etc.

On one hand it's great that more people aren't paying attention, but on the other hand it's awful that more people aren't paying attention.

There were a couple people that instantly went from the loosest players to the tightest as soon as the wifi became available. Now they just sit there watching their ipods playing like nits. I haven't really seen it slow the games down too much though.

2-5 PLO/NL mix currently going w a list. This should happen more often. I don't think it's a good idea to take the NL portion of the game out and make it strictly PLO later through the night (which happens very often). The game dynamics change significantly in NL when it is mixed w PLO that people don't seem to adjust to. Glad it has been both games throughout the night so far.

They only run Saturday through Tuesday. Yesterday it rained all day so I would have probably stayed away if they were running. As far as today, even though it's a nicer day, I don't know how good the track will be. I'm thinking it might be muddy still, but I don't know.

Do you go down to the track to watch? You can PM if you want.
