No free booze -- Drinking is really important to have in a poker room. Attracts recreational players and gets games loose. Whats a wild sat night room without booze?

Waitresses rarely come around

Comps are nonexistent -- Is it really only 1/hr for 2-5?

The player base -- Lots of surly grinder types. Very little lighthearted conversation at the table. Bad environment for pros and rec players alike

Game selection -- 85% 1-2 tables and not much else. Perhaps the 1k buyin structure of 2-5 is hurting the number of tables

There are two things I did like though-- the TVs and 9 handed tables. Oh god do i like 9 handed
If they had 200-500 2/5 I'd be playing that way more often than 1/2. But as I like to buy in max and 1000 is too much for my BR it's 1/2 for me atm. Can't wait to get back to Borgata to start playing 2/5

What does "top tier" mean?

For me:

The top tier consists of one room and one room only - Borgata obv.

The 2nd tier consists of one room and one room only - PARX.

If the only comparison is Borg, any room will lose. Other than that, PARX is far and away the best in the PA/Del/NJ area.

On a Fri/Sat they will have 6-8 2/5 games (more than anywhere else) as well as non NL options.

Can't argue with the $$$ for drinks of course.

Guess i was setting my expectations too high in comparison to borgata.

Forgot to mention that when i ordered a whiskey on ice at the bar that the bartender attached an electronic device to the mouth of the bottle and poured the whiskey through it so as to regulate the amount of liquor coming out. Cheapest thing i've ever seen, especially from a place that has a license to print money.

That's why I being a Philly player prefer playing in Harrah's Chester over Parx. While the 2-5 NL games have the same buy-in structure ($200-$1,000), Chester average buy-in is about $450, while Parx avg buy-in is about $600. However, because of free drinks and more "adventurous" player pool money seems to go in much faster and looser in the Chester games.

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ updated 2011.09.08

In the 2/5 game theres been a player thats been thrown out numerous times. He seems to be mentally ill. He has loud outbursts, is very rude to the dealers, chips runners and staff. Ive have seen the man ejected from the room at least three times. For some reason he keeps being allowed back in. Its not your normal, angry player, or drunk idiot, he seems to have something very wrong with him. He's a tall guy about 6'4 mid 40's, red/brown hair. He's a terrible player, and dumps a lot of chips, but theres a point where eventhough somebody is "great for the game" his table antics and crazy behavior, makes me wonder how he is allowed back on the property. I have a feeling if he keeps being allowed to play, there will be a ugly incident. I hope i am wrong.

This is what I believe happened to the recent popularity of the 6/12 OE game. It was forever in the back area. Always had one game going. Busy nights would have a deep list behind or occasionally a must move going. Then some months ago the game was moved to the front tables. Now there are consistently 2 and even 3 tables running. None of the complaints of the table having moved from the special VIP area exist anymore.

yes, 75-100 is typical judging from the few weeks i've played it recently. last weekend i think it got 103 or so. plays less like a turbo early but the lategame is still a ****show - i've not won it but my guess is it doesn't go later than about 9-10pm. my memory could be wrong, but i believe the structure goes from 4k/8k to 6k/12k (500/1k is also skipped) which tends to be right around the FT bubble and just destroys any semblance of anything other than shove/fold.

Well it is tournament time at Borgata so of course they have a ton of games.

Also, Parx has 24 1-2 tables right now while Borgata has 11. Borgata has more 2-5 because the max is lower.

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ updated 2011.09.08

I love Parx.. but I wish they stepped up and protected there dealers and players more against disruptive and abusive players. My point I want to bring up is this, alot of people think players who are extremely disruptive , and act out are ok ,as long as they are fish and lose often. That could be true, but they also can stop alot of other recreational players and new players from playing, because there antics and behavior. I come from a club game background, and people knew there was consequences to there actions. These disruptive players were not allowed to come back. The people running the games new they were bad for business. Also violence was always a reality, because theres no eye in sky.
Ive seen some dealers and players cursed at , threats made, objects thrown and nothing done. All the dealers know who these group of players are, and someone should speak up, it should be a topic at a staff meeting, and these players should be approached and warned by the staff that behavior is not appreciated, they should conduct themselves with a certain level of respect in Parx, or they can be banned. At least with a verbal warning, it could prevent a violent or ugly situation. .
The casino should have a presence, meaning dont **** around in my room or your out.!! If i ran the room, and i know alot of people who ran underground games, respect at the table and to dealers and players would have zero tolerance. I would not let people get out of line. Again it scares away rec players looking to have a good time, it gives players new to poker a bad impression. It makes the dealers jobs very difficult, and you could be putting nice players at risk at getting into a altercation because nobody likes being disrespected.

Thanks, maybe I didnt phrase it right when I said a group, I have just seen a few things past couple weeks that shouldnt be tolerated. Also if a person is banned for 48 hours, it should be there final warning. Ive seen people banned and just keep coming back and acting out. There has been a few small incidents, nothing crazy, but it can always lead to somethig worse.

Man up and stop being a pansy, that type of stuff is entertaining and good for the games as long as nobody gets hurt.

And by the way, a very well liked dealer who was at parx since day 1 was just fired this week, because a regular player who acts out often, who was never put in his place by the floor or staff threw something in her face, i dont know all the details, but its just an example of something that could have been prevented in my opinion. But you think thats entertaining and good for the game. Apparently she lost her temper after being treated so disrespecful so many times and responded to his actions and was fired.

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ updated 2011.09.08

What too few realize in the world of poker room management is that taking a hard stance against such behavior is always in their best interests. Start 86ing permanantly for abusive behavior and the rest of the players will fall in line. Those that don't are the types that you really don't want around anyway.

All too often those in management are more worried about not being liked or simply too afraid to take decisive action. It goes along with a culture at large where mediocrity and trashy, asinine behavior are tolerated and sometimes even applauded. But any poker room that has management not backing up their dealers when confronted with bad behavior is asking for serious trouble.

They asked for input a few weeks ago for a new series name, had to be submitted quickly, so that probably is the dates. Thanksgiving weeK, interesting dates, and also just after Borgata series ends up. So, Probably ?

My guess would be that a room representative with full details, not a player with secondhand knowledge and no details, should be posting about this. Probably doesn't help to throw this out there without a fair recounting of the facts.

The guy who said that the type of stuff you're complaining about is "good for the game" likely meant the overall concept of people getting emotional over play, and ranting about bad beats etc. I doubt he's advocating stuff being thrown at people or physical violence.
