Played last night. Full(ish) table till about 1:30AM. No list for the last hour or so. On my way out I noticed a lot of 10/10 regs playing 2/5.

This reminded me of a recent weekend night. We were fairly short much of the night, got down to 4 handed and played that way till about 2:30AM. Then, a certain "noteworthy" player sat down. All of a sudden, we were FULL with a list at 3AM, after never being full all night!

My point is that we are probably not trying to attract "shot takers" from 2/5. I think we are trying to convince all the bumhunters sitting in the 2/5 games to pop into the bigger game more frequently than they do.

While generally a friendly place, Parx has the most overt bumhunting culture I've seen in my decade of poker. I've seen guys stampede to a table, and almost fistfight over open seats when certain action players start a game. Tuesday, I saw a reg literally SPRINT across the poker room when a certain player sat down at 25/50.

Like the poster above, I think many of the bumhunters are put off by the bigger buy-in, especially in certain line-ups. And the color up at the cage is just enough of a pain in the ass to keep people from casually moving over.

If you can flip even a few players from playing 70% 2/5 to 70% 5/10 instead, it could mean the difference between games going longer, or even going at all.

I've been a reg in the 2-5 game since parx opened, and I will occasionally "take shots" at the 10-10. When I'm in A.C. it's the same story, only it's not 10-10, it's 5-10. Personally, it makes no difference if the structure is 10-10 or 5-10, or if the chips are red or peach. I'm also not affected by the max buyin, or the average stack size, since I typically buyin for 150 BB, and if I build my stack up and start to feel uncomfortable with that much money in play, I pick up.

What's intimidating about the 10-10 is the same thing that's intimidating about most higher stakes games, which is the simple fact that there are far more competent players than at the 2-5 level. Just last week I was intending to play some 10-10, but when I see seven known pros in the game (parx ambassador Matt Glantz included), I know I won't have an edge, so I don't play it. If that makes me a bum hunter, so be it, but my rent will get paid and my kid will eat.

There's a line between game selection and bumhunting.

I like it. Sounds strange but that alone will probably have me in the game on my next trip whereas i'd be hesistant to play if it were 2-5 or 5-5

Played shorthanded most of the night till 4AM, and this lineup was definitely not short of generous players or great action. One of the best x/10NL lineups I've seen in awhile. Guys calling $160 3bets pre with any two cards, and calling down with literally any connection to the flop.

Anyone who didn't hop in this lineup made the decision strictly based on bankroll or other factors. Certainly not the lineup.

I agree with an earlier poster-the 10/10 shouldn't be all the way back in the corner. This definitely contributes to discouraging new players from taking a shot as it feels like a "private club" in a way.

Is it possible that Sklansky's old theory about fish going broke too fast @NL is in play?
The 15/30 seems to be slowly losing steam as well and there's obv. way more variance in that game.

Well, if a great player is able to hypothetically average $100/hr in a game, that money has to come from somewhere.

Smaller stack sizes slow down the money drain from bad->good players, and helps obfuscate that drain with variance.

Is parx planning any major tourney series for Nov/Dec? Would love to see a fall tourney series. I think its exactly what the room needs to get some juicy games going again.

It is/was surreal how much action was in the back tonight. No worries about being secluded, totally full back there for a good portion of the night.

Tuesday night is the big night for Parx.

Surreal and unexpected if you randomly stop in without knowing.

Me and a friend will be there on Sat Oct 27th. Will there be a PLO game going on or should I start an interest list when I get there around noon?

Why does Parx not offer a 10/20 or 6/12 O8 game?? The 6/12 OE game is killed IMO by the stud H/L round. Out of the 9 players usually 3 sit out that round in my experiences playing there. Also, the main game is so annoying to play in. There are 4-5 regs soft playing one another as soon as they bet you out of the hand. Same guys every time, checking down nut hi hand vs. nut low hands heads up in some cases one freerolling the other. Shame because they really kill the main game. The feeder tables are the only good ones to play at. I asked floor if they could spread a 15/30 O8 only game and they said no, the lowest they would allow would be a 40/80 game. Not too many players rolled for that stake.

They don't offer those games because they don't want to cannibalize from and destabilize the currently successful 6-12 OE game, pure and simple. Given that I often see 2 or even 3 solid tables of OE (but not 5 or more, which would give some room for experimentation), I can't say I blame them, though given the frequency with which 10-20 goes off I would probably give a 15-30 O8 game a chance to run if someone asked for it (if I were Parx).

In my limited but periodic experience, there are equal numbers of people who prefer stud and omaha. The past several times I've played I have not seen anyone get up an leave for just one game or another, let alone three people.

I can't speak about the main game because i rarely play long enough to get into it after it's been made solid, but if they are betting me out with good hands, then i don't really care if they softplay each other after they get heads up, particularly since it's limit and stack sizes don't matter. If they're colluding to whipsaw people out with mediocre hands that is another matter, but that isn't happening. I'm not sure what you mean when you say that is "killing" the game (killing the action? killing the fun for you?), but the continued strength of the game would seem to disagree.

Regarding the OE game, I can see both sides. There are usually 2 tables running most days, and sometimes 3 on Saturdays. It's been a staple game @ Parx for a while now.
I like the $4 time charge, and the kill to 10/20. The kill to 9/18 was silly, IMHO.
Those regs are typical of many Omaha (and stud for that matter) regs... nitty and a little bit annoying. Haven't seen the softplaying so much, as I'm usually in the must-move game on Saturdays. I also sense that most players enjoy the stud half as much as the Omaha. Borgata's old 10/20 2-way game had many more 'walkers' in the stud half, IIRC...

I know Parx also spreads 10/20 OE, but I can't see why they won't spread a straight 15/30 O8 game? I'd guess 99% of the 6/12 players would never play in that game, and the 10/20 game (which it would interfere with) doesn't always go.

I've asked the floor about a 4/8 HOSE game and was told it would interfere with the 6/12 game. Maybe, but I'm not buying it. I feel that Parx has the ability to spread more/different games than they do now, but simply choose not to, IMHO...
