8-16 with its 4-8 chip structure is almost always better than 10-20 (2-4 chip structure). More chips = bigger pots.

I could not possibly disagree more. One of the reasons the 15 is so successful is that it pulls from the 10 and the 20 crowds to make a single pool. If you split that pool you put the game in danger. I can't think of many who regularly play 10 but won't play 15. The game is super solid as it is and putting it in danger would be foolish. If so many would come play 8/16 then the game would be going all the time. They don't come. I played all of them over the last 2 years at Parx and the 8 was just a waiting room for the 15 at its best. That player pool does not put in enough hours to sustain a game here.

I think there are 4/8 guys who'd play 8 or 10, and a few more might come if it was consistently going.

I could be wrong, and I agree that parx isn't going to risk their 15 game on a whim.

I know that's the prevailing logic, I don't personally like it. I prefer less chips, and quicker action. I'm the guy who brings greens to 20/40, not the 6 racks of reds.

Also playing 20% bigger give you bigger pots too!

Sure, it's hard to believe nobody wanted to play 8 for a year and suddenly 9 people did on Sunday. But a few guys who'd play if it was a regular game won't make it a regular game. They need to list themselves every day so it's at least in the bravo, and be willing to start short. It'd probably help if the floor (which btw is on the whole better than Borgata's imo) didn't look at you like you have 3 heads when you inquired about it too.

MacguyV, remember in the beginning of this thread where I predicted the stake levels of the limit games as well as reassuring how strong the limit games would be in the area? Sick read, eh? Btw the floor at Parx is way more competent and efficient than borgata 1000%!!

Played some 1-2 today. There was a strattle to $4 I didn't notice it and raised to $7. Dealer said it wasn't allowed and said I had to make it $8. Is this correct? It would appear to me $6 would be a min raise?

Straddle isn't considered a raise it is considered a blind. Just like you can't raise it to $3 with no straddle you can't raise it to $7 (or $6) with a straddle. If he said blind raise to $4 then you could make it $7 (or $6).

In regards to the 8/16 game (or lack thereof), it's not just Parx but most poker rooms that cannot get games between 4/8 and 10/20.

1/2 NL (with a buy in of $200 or 300) essentially killed off 5/10, 6/12, pink chip, 8/16, etc...

Also, a lot of area players are more familiar with the traditional AC limits, and 4/8, 8/16, 15/30 are 'too foreign' to them. I'd guess that if Parx had 2/4 or 3/6 LHE it would put the 4/8 game in danger. I happen to like the structures Parx uses, although it would be better with a consistent 8/16 (or even 6/12 LHE) game. Just my .02...

Can I ask some general parx questions. I'm making my first trip down next week.

#1 - I thought I read or heard that they do not serve free alcoholic drinks while you are playing? Is that true?
#2 - Is their rewards system like other casinos where you just swipe your players club card and you get discounts on food and stuff or do you have to go to the desk first to activate your points? I thought I read that
#3 - Where is the best place to park if I want to go to the poker room

1. no free booze while playing poker.
2. for poker you need to activate points at the desk first.
3. Poker is in its own building. follow signs for Parx East. Thats where the poker room(2nd floor)/horse racing junk is.

thanks man. that is outrageously bad no free booze. Is that everywhere in the casino? The activating points part seems so stupid.

I got my card in the poker room but just gave them my license and got the card and swipe it every time I sit at a table. I don't recall ever saying anything about activating points or whatever...have I just not been getting comp dollars this whole time? And what's the point of swiping if card hasn't been activated?

you are still receiving your comp dollars, but in order to use them you must activate them first with a floor. they expire 60 days from when you earn them

Not going to indict an entire casino nor swear it off because of one session at one table, but first trip to this place yesterday was anything but Shangri-La. The room is nice and the staff seems excellent, but the action was beyond awful. This was the worst table I've ever been at in my entire life (5 hours @ $1/$2 mid afternoon). Completely boring nitfest, one player there the entire time who would qualify as a drooler. No heavy preflop action, no one spewing light, almost no table chatter or anything entertaining. Really hope this was an aberration.

I should add that at what was a 9 handed or full table the entire time, there were 6 chops and 4 or 5 other folded-to-the-blinds-who-decided-to-play-it-out hands in a five hour session. Very rare at 1/2.
