Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ updated 2011.09.08

Im new to the forum. Im a 2/5 reg at parx. I have been playing full time at Parx since the doors opend in Nov 2010. The original dealers , I have no complaints about. Lately I have been in games, with new dealers and faces I have never seen before, and the number one problem Im having is they are not taking control of the game. For instance, ive seen alot of new players hiding big chips behind their stacks. A strong dealer should never allow that. To me its defintly an angle, unless the player dosent know any better, in any case they should be in plain sight of the whole table. I have said things on my own to players i see hiding chips, sometimes it causes friction, other times its no problem, either way its not my job. Also, there is never a direct rule on this next issue. I feel its an etiquette thing personally, but players giving counts on players chips when there not in a hand. The dealers and floor have to take control of that. Ive seen about 5 situations in big hands these past 2 weeks when other players start counting the pots and chips who arent involved, and dealers did nothing to stop the chatter. In the past in other games or places, i have seen fist fights brake out for such bad etiquette. Overall I love Parx, and the most of the dealers and floor, just need to reinforce to the new ones, to worry more about controlling the games.

Maybe I am missing something here, why not spread a 6/12 LHE ? The 6/12 and 10/20 are both O/E games not hold em. I dont see how that would hurt the 4/8 game either... I understand you dont want to spread 3/6 , that has been clear from the start, but the small player pool of LHE players want something in between 4/8 and 15/30. I dont see why a 6/12 LHE and a 6/12 O/E couldn't coexist ? Couldn't we have 4/8, 6/12, and 15/30 to choose from ?

Someone asked about Chinatown buses arriving from Manhattan. There used to be a 7:30PM and 9:30PM bus, but both have been cut as of last week. They latest bus that departs from Manhattan is 4:45PM. Brooklyn (60th Street) has the latest departure time of 7:30PM.

Also, Parx East table games and slots now close at 2AM (even on weekends). For those who need their late night dice or pai gow fix, you'll need to hike to the main casino.

One poster mentioned "Winner's Row", in regards to the homeless who inhabit the bus lobby. Those winners have now migrated to Parx West and henceforth will be settling in "Foodies Row", with a satellite location in "Simulcast Row".

Makes sense to me.
8/16 failed to take off, so why not try 6/12 LHE ?
I have a feeling that it could be a regular game @ Parx.

Also, what about a 4/8 mixed game that wouldn't interfere with the OE game ?
Something like HORSE, where you'd switch every 9 hands instead of every half hour.

Thank you for this.

Some word from management about this change would have been nice before I froze my fat arse off waiting for two busses that never came two saturdays ago.

Do you think I will even be able to get in a game? I only got a few hours to play but I am worried that the waits will be forever long because of the tourney?

Does anyone think the 7PM event today will end up with a larger prize pool than the 11AM today?

Same for Thurs

The parx blog says that they will be adding 3 more levels to the tournament structures for the POWS. Anyone hear which blind levels these are?

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ updated 2011.09.08

At Parx, where do you guys go wait when your waiting for your name to be called?

There is no seating in the front of the room by the podium?

Do you just sit at the bar in the back or at the electronic BJ tables? Seemed weird to sit at the bar with $1K in chips waiting for a seat at $2/$5.

Or do you just put your name on the 1/2 and 2/5 list and usually you get called to 1/2 fairly quickly...so at least your in action while you wait for the 2/5 seat?

How is the 15/30 limit game? Anyone play it?

I'm very impressed that on a Tuesday at 2:45 EST time they show:

2 15/30 Limit
16 1/2 NL
6 2/5 NL
2 10/10 NL

Borgata only has

1 10/20 Limit
9 1/2 NL
5 2/5 NL

I usually just sit at an empty table in the room.

Fun. Can vary from slightly nitty to a few donators (I'm one of them!) to action city.

Remember that Parx has the POWS tourney going on now which will skew the numbers a little, but in general Parx is very busy mid-week, often busier than the B, as locals enjoy stopping by before or after work. Weekends (especially in the summer) there is more of a trend for some to head to AC, but in both cases both rooms hold their own.

Thanks for the info!

Good call about the POWS...totally forgot that it will inflate the cash game numbers.

Also, are there additional levels for the Omaha trny tomorrow?

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ updated 2011.09.08

I have not played live poker in years so wanted to get thoughts on the below.

In the games I have played at Parx, rarely do all the players show their hand when its show down time. Everyone seems to be waiting for the other guy to show his hand before flipping over his own. Unless someone has an obv winner.

I would love to see everyone hands at show down. I'm pretty sure they are required to show them if you ask the dealer. Is this correct? I known online you can look through the hand history and see everyone's final hand who called until the end.

It really slows down the game when everyone is dicking around and it would be great to be able to gain more insight into the ranges everyone is playing.

What are the actual rules on this? Is the person who acts first need to be the 1st to show or should everyone technically turn up their hands?

I could see people getting really pissed if I ask to see hands every time though...

It's considered extremely poor etiquette to ask to see a loser's hand after he mucks. The only justifiable reason to do so is if you suspect collusion.

In most places, last aggressor is obligated to show first. Not sure at Parx; I think they may have some lame rule in place (i.e. if no action on river, closest to button shows.)

In either case, I agree that people need to just table their hands quicker and get on with the game.

Re: Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ updated 2011.09.08

Okay this is getting out of hand. Counterfeit hundreds are a problem at Parx. I know half a dozen people that have bought in at the cage with hundreds that they received at Parx only to be notified right then or shortly after that one or more of their bills is a counterfeit.

I've talked to a bunch of floor people about this already but I just wanted to let the community know. I spent a week in Florida at the Palm Beach Kennel Club and although it was a very poorly run room compared to Parx, one thing they did have was this:

The machine counts bills extremely fast and checks for counterfeits. The cage people never count the bills themselves they just count the chips and run the currency through machine. I think having machines like this at Parx would make everyone feel more comfortable and it would also make cashouts and buy-ins faster.

Having a counterfeit marker isn't practical for large cashouts or buy-ins and it doesn't even work with the counterfeits that have been floating around which are made from bleaching $5 bills and reprinting them.

Finally, as a word of warning, I wouldn't accept money in exchange for chips (say, some you have in your pocket) at the table from people you don't know well. This is probably one of the primary ways counterfeits enter the Parx economy. I doubt counterfeiters would be as comfortable walking straight up to the cage.

I sneak into the room to the left of the bar and watch all the waitresses change.
