took a trip down last night with a buddy. first time there and it had its pros and cons.

when we got there around 10PM place had about 25-30 tables going mostly of 1-2 and 2-5 hold em. games were pretty tight and seemed to be more annoying than usual.

the crowd was older than down in ac but i didn't expect an AC experience. they stop serving alcohol @2am so that hurt the playing field as well. I usually like when most of the table is drinking and i am sipping on sprite..

the 2 dollar chips were not really needed, not sure why they even use them but no real problem. drink girls were all smoking that was a +.

also its cool that the poker room is separated from everything else, but the good thing about AC is you get the drunks coming out of clubs/winning 2 grand on the BJ table and was to spew on the poker table because they think they are running hot.

overall not a bad experience for the short ride compared to ac..hit quads against a nut flush on the river. that made me happy for the night. ill go back

I don't see anything on their tournament calendar about satellites, so can I assume they don't offer them...even on the weekends?

No satellites for the small weekly tournaments. They had satellites for their Parx open event.

Based on everything im seeing and hearing from other players it looks like Parx Poker Room is becoming number 1 on the eastcoast faster then anyone thought it could happen. I still think Borgata holds the tittle. Ive been to PARX 5 times and every time i go it feels more like Borgata which is a good thing. We are certainly lucky to have two of the best rooms so close to Philly. 2012 should be a hell of a year around these parts with 4 WPTs at PARX, all the great Tournaments at Borgata and the other rooms doing their best to keep up. We are sitting in the poker mecca if you live anywhere from New York down to Delaware.

Not sure how you quantify a card room being number 1, I guess is subjective opinion. In my opinion, I think their location is the best thing they have going for them. Personally, if I could take a day trip to Atlantic City from NYC, I never would've set foot in Parx.

For the most part the room is well run and most of the dealers are very good (seems like half are from Borgata) if its not insanely busy, the floor is pretty responsive too.

The things that irk me probably have been said before i.e. ****ty comp rates/system, horrible food selection, and being detached from the rest of the casino.

Based upon my experience playing in about a dozen rooms across the country I would give em a 6.5 out 10.

Thanks for the new food options in the poker room. So far I have had the shrimp basket and the pizza and both were good

Played in tournament today, blinds are 200-400, I am on the button short stacked. So I pushed all in 2100 with K9clubs. SB calls and turns over KK.
Dealer says BB still needs to act. So SB takes his cards back. BB thinks for a minute and calls. Flop A diamonds and two hearts. SB checks-BB checks.
The turn is a heart, check -check. The river is a heart. I start to get up so not sure if SB made a bet, but BB pushes all in. SB calls shows his K of hearts.
BB turns on pocket AA ( with the ace of hearts). WOW

Nice place. The Courtyard next to it still has tube TVs from the 90s. I wouldn't stay there again if I come up. It's just a tad too far from DC when DP and Chester are closer to do in a night but I'm glad I checked it out.

Played the tournament today....layed down Queens and Jacks to AA preflop but couldn't get away from 77s later on when I faced a limp re-raiser (I shoved, he had AA). Bad, bad play. It was my first hand at a new table. Wish they had more than one tournament a day.

Can anyone recommend good pizza around here?

Had a very awkward experience last night for the first time ever from a dealer at Parx. It's late around 2:30 am and was looking for the PLO game. The game broke and didn't feel like playing NL or even Holdem for that matter. So I sit 4-8 LHE waiting for my friends to finish their session at 15-30.

Then this hand came down. I have AsQs on the button in a 5 handed game. I raise PF. Three way action. I raised a donk bet from sb with BB in between on a two tone rag flop to see the whole board investing 2 small bets in position. The turn is an A. I bet. The river (which I thought was irrelevant) was a Q, giving me Aces and Queens. I bet and one call. It is now showdown. I table my hand first and the dealer announces "Runner, Runner, Runner!" as he pushes the A and Q up on the board. Other player muck without showing. I'm kinda shocked that he would say that so I said, "you don't have to say all that" and he says "What do you want me to say?" with a puzzled look on his face. I politely ask to "just announce the hand". Then he rebutles back with "Would you like me to put the board out backwards?" I'm just in shock at this point. I wanted to tell him why that was wrong in so many levels but just didn't even want to argue with the guy bc he seemed very aggro on the fact that he didn't do anything wrong. The game quickly broke afterwards.

if you are staying at the Marriot try Bella pizza...they are the closest and the best IMO. I live in Bensalem fwiw. If you like spicy, their Buffalo chicken pizza is good.

honestly if you have to explain to the dealer why he shouldn't say that I think it's hopeless...asking him not to just brings more attention etc..and it might just aggravate you (i,e, this situation)..sucks but it's part of live poker and I just stay quiet and ignore it, more for my own peace of mind than anything

kind of like when people on the river say "oh straight on the board" or "he hasn't played a hand in an hour" or something...if u have to explain to them why they need to stay quiet, they will never understand and other spots will come up where they open their mouths

note: it's possible he was just being friendly at a lower stakes game...i dunno..more likely clue-less

Little out of line but at least it didn't cost you any money.

I play lots of high/low and too often new dealers open their mouth when they shouldn't. For example:

Board at end the hand is like: A 4 9 10 6
And i table the king high flush and the other player says something like, "nice hand I had the queen high flush" and is about to muck and the dealer chirps up with "you don't have a low?" and the guy double checks his hand and realize he has like 5-8 in his hand and tables it.

Usually its dealers not used to split pot games, but it happens more than it should, players do it too sometimes.

Quite annoying, players get so focused on the high and forget they have an emergency low only to be saved by the dealer.

couldn't think of a good way to say it at the table so hopefully this guy reads this (and i don't get any infractions)...

to the guy playing 1/2nl about 11:30 tonight sitting in the 1 seat berating the asian kid in the 3 seat for like 5mins for bluff betting into an empty side pot...ffs stop tapping the glass

If you've played at the Borgata, that is the best room. Parx is getting off all games of all sizes. They are laying the ground work to be the as good as the best. Their location may put them over the top in the next two years. I can see The Commerece, Borgata and PArx as the top three poker experiences in the country.

Don't forget that Foxwoods has alway been the largest room East of LA. If NYC gets poker even Commerce may fall to 2nd.

Or just as bad when player who is not in the hands says something. I usually only play O/8. Always table my hand if I'm in at showdown.

If Phil Ivey can miss a flush on national TV, anyone can overlook their hand.

My apologies in advance for the somewhat uninterestig question.

But, what is the action like on a typical Sunday (non-holiday weekend) afternoon in the fall? I am mostly a Friday/Saturday night recreational player, although I have played some week day evenings? Just trying to figure out whether I should expect much different than a typical Friday/Saturday night (before 1:00 am).

Thank you.

Didn't play any of the previous freerolls. 60 hours is 10k starting stack, 80 is 12,500, and 100 is 15,000, right? How long are the levels (I know it'll play fast)?

Why can't you take a day trip to Atlantic City from NYC?

An extra two hours travel?? It'd deter me too. Rather spend the time on the felt.

Parx is 2 hours closer to NYC than AC??? How is that possible?

Because an essential part of a day trip is returning home at the end of the day.
