This is too confusing for your average Joe. Keeping things as simplistic as possible is best. It doesn't intimidate the recreational players.

Re: PARX Poker Thread -- FAQ updated 2011.06.21

Played at parx tonight for the 3rd time ever. 1/2nl played pretty big, lots of pre flop raising and loose players. Finished the session up $210.

The room was really busy. Seemed to be really well run, drink girl could could come around more often. Played last night in atlantic city (showboat and ceasers) parx puts these rooms to shame. So many more tables at parx, and staff seems superior. Only thing parx needs to do is lose the blue chips.

I usually put in the blind raise anyway but I would love to have it live.
However tonight I am here to complain about Parx. I love the room except for the drink policy. It is bad enough they make me pay 10 dollars a drink but tonight they let me buy 2 drinks then security came and told me I was cut off and not allowed to drink the cocktails that i had already paid for. Since I had used comps to pay for them I was not able to be reimbursed according to the bartender and the floor men we talked to.

IMO if they let you pay for the drinks they should let you drink them.

Ari,
I would enjoy your opinion on this matter.

Re: PARX Poker Thread -- FAQ updated 2011.06.21

Another late night at Parx 1-3 PLO. Started as a 1-2 NL/1-3 PLO game with a $300 max buy-in. It doesn't bother me, but a lot of people thought the max should be $500, and I believe the floor is working, or already worked, on getting 1-3 NL approved so the buy-in could be raised.

Overall the game was very loud, swingy, and a good time. I do wonder if some louder/angrier people will drive people away from the game at some point though. I don't have a problem with the ****-talk and a slightly cruder table than most 1-2 games, but if we're trying to grow a player pool I'm wondering if everyone should pull it back a little (myself included).

Anyway, game was still running when I left (6 handed I think) and someone in the 3 seat was crushing despite being the biggest fish I've ever seen (jk).

So far it is 6-1 in favor of UTG straddle. Thank you for you responses so far. Please keep them coming for anyone who plays here and has yet to voice their opinion.

The tournaments in August, many are listed as two days. Does anyone know if Day one is played to a final table or will it end at midnight or later, since it starts at noon. thanks

Re: PARX Poker Thread -- FAQ updated 2011.06.21

I'm in favor of straddles as long as it is UTG only. Button straddles are bad for the game in the long run.

I would also like to see the straddle kept out of the 1/3 plo game and have it allowed only at 2/5 plo and higher. 1/3 with a straddle is too big as an entry level game and would hinder the game's growth, imo.

.... What happened to increasing comps for 2/5?
Of course at this point I am considering taking up smoking again as a means to spend my comp dollars. So sad to have so much in comps and nothing worth spending it on

I agree 1/3 is way to good of a game right now with new players hopping in and out. I will always say no to the live straddle until at least 2 am when we kick it up.

1. Straddles are only available to the player in first position to the right of the big blind (right for dealer, left for player) or, “Under the gun”. No button straddles or Mississippi straddles are permitted & only one player may straddle at a time.
2. The straddle must be equal to double the big blind. The straddle may not be more or less than double the big blind. For example in $1/2NL the straddle IS $4, for $2/5NL the straddle is $10 & so on.
3. The Straddle will be considered “Live” with an option. The betting will begin with the player to the right of the straddle & it will be the amount of the straddle to call. For example in $1/2NL the straddle is $4 so it will be $4 to call. When action comes back around to the straddle they will have an option to check or raise, taking away this option from the big blind.
4. Having said #3, the straddle is considered the “new big blind”. A straddle is different from a blind raise. The next minimum raise after a straddle must be double or more of the straddle. For example in $1/2NL the straddle is $4, the next raise must be $8 or more.
5. A straddle bet must be posted by the player before the first card is pitched. Any straddle bets posted after the first pitched card should be returned to the player & will not be active.
6. If a player missed their blinds they may come back in for a straddle bet instead of posting their missed blinds. This is the same as a player waiting for their big blind instead of posting. All rules above apply.

Thanks to Ari & staff for giving the people what they want!

Completely agree. A lot of rec players (like myself) sit down at 1-3 PLO for the first time and don't realize how big it plays, bust quickly, and most get discouraged with the game. I can only imagine this will be compounded with the live straddle.

The game that ended up being just 1-3 PLO started as a mix game (1-2 NL and 1-3 PLO), so max buy-in early in the evening was 300. If the game is just 1-3 PLO (as it was later in the night), you are correct about the buy-in.
