Hey listen - I hope the same as you because I love the limit games. But whether 15-30 and 30-60 type games run regularly will be based on demand. I hope they do though, because I'm in the area often and would love to participate. Ctown in West VA has 10-20 and 20-40 (one table only, but good action in both), so it's possible. Delaware, on the other hand, is a great room with great NL action, but can't get a limit game above 3-6 on a regular basis.

But really, it will be up to players to show up and start these games for them to be regular fixture of the cardroom, not Parx management (though they can certainly help). I hope they succeed!

It's not??!! What a shame.

On the other hand, so long as the beautiful naked ladies keep climbing off the critter and climbing into bed with me, I won't complain about it.

Don't know where the October date came from, but November 1 is their target date. I got that tonight from the main man himself, so I figure it to be accurate.

Can't wait - 'cause I'm looking forward to playing there!

I hear ya', it's gonna take player demand not just the room to get these games off the ground. Unfortunately, many longtime AC players will probably want to play what's familiar to them, i.e. 2/4, 3/6, 10/20, and 20/40 because they're creatures of habit.
We'll see if Parx will cater to the inevitable requests for those limits.

Those games don't run regularly at Venetian AFAIK, so if the room is going to be similar to Venetian, I wouldn't get your hopes up.
Also, I can't see why anyone would object to 20-40 if they can actually get a game spread at that limit. Why would 15-30 & 30-60 be preferable?

Oh, I didn't mean for my post to imply that I prefer 15-30 and 30-60, because I actually don't. For various reasons, I like the four chip-eight chip structure. I was simply stating that I hope Parx can spread mid-limit (20-40, 40-80, etc) games on a regular basis - if they can do that, I would definitely be happy. But the bottom line is that players have to want to play those games - if they do, any cardroom would spread them. If they don't, no amount of management strategy will make them materialize out of thin air.

It can't come soon enough for those of us in southeastern PA, especially those of us that live north of Philadelphia. I don't even consider going to Harrah's Chester; I'm still taking the pain in the ass trip to Borgata if I want to play at all.

Why, because of the limits spread in this area? You check out DE Park yet? It's a lot closer than AC- at least enough to make it worthwhile, I think?

How steady do the games have to be, in order to survive?

Has nothing to do with spread; I'm a 2/5 NL player. It's because Harrah's Chester is an uncomfortable place to play for a number of reasons, the two biggest being a tight playing area and slow dealers. I live a few miles north of the Philly border, so Harrah's isn't even that close to me to begin with, Del Park is at least another half hour beyond Harrah's for me. If Harrah's were as good as any of the AC boardwalk properties I'd go there, but since it's 45 minutes from me already, I'd rather just go the extra 35-45 minutes to the Borgata. Parx is only 20-25 mins from my house, which is why I can't wait for it to open. If it sucks like Harrah's though, then I'll still go to Borgata. No sense playing in my opinion if it's an uncomfortable, annoying experience. Even if the property is closer to home.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

seems as if opening date is still pure rumor. Poker was to start in Spring/Summer then in September now November. Until you see a public announcement by Parx or a posting here anything else is a rumor.

Hope it is sooner rather than later as I am 15 minutes from Parx!

parx wont suck like harrahs. theyve had the opportunity to see harrahs, and what works and what doesnt. parx wont charge for alcohol, their room will be spacious, the tables wont have stupid rake boxes that will leave a person in the 10 seat battered and bruised. comps will be better, a lot better than what harrahs offers. management will be 100% better than harrahs, theyll have a better fill system. how do i know all of this? because i do

Try Del Park -- Blue Route, 95 S and you're there. I'm in Delaware County and go there all the time, driving right past Harrah's in Chester as I do it. DE Park is a great room and worth the drive. Much closer than AC.

Yeah, if you live in Delaware County, it's much closer than AC. If you live in the part of Montgomery County that I do, the difference between Del Park and AC is negligible.

I didn't realize that they were 25 miles apart, but that's 20 minutes on the highway.

But, as you said, driving to AC doesn't become as much an outlier, giving your direction. For me, I split through the two rooms to get to AC, so it's much farther (and tolls, etc)

Dude, maybe I haven't seen the full range of your posts on Harrah's to get a more accurate picture, but the ones I have seen make you come off awfully homerish on Chester's room.... and not necessarily in a rational way, either.

Thus, you engender reactions such as his. Really, you need to dial it back a tab.

According to Mapquest, here's the official tally on the distance/time from my house for these places:

Parx Casino: 14.48 mi, 23 mins
Harrah's Chester: 35.88 mi, 47 mins
Sands Bethlehem: 40.67 mi, 64 mins
Delaware Park: 56.76 mi, 73 mins
Borgata: 78.68 mi, 106 mins

I care more about time than miles. I can say that the time estimates for Parx and Chester are pretty much spot on from my experience driving to those places. The estimate to the Borg is high as I can get there in 80 minutes if I really push it, 90 if I just drive as I normally do. So I'm saving 15-20 mins if I go to DP, which isn't really helping me. Granted I don't have to pay tolls to get to DP like I do AC, but I also have to pay for beer at DP plus the comps are superior at the Borg, so that makes up for the tolls. And no one can dispute which facility is the most comfortable and offers the most amenities.

If I lived in Delaware County, different story. I wouldn't care about Parx. But because I'm in Montco, Parx can't come soon enough.

BTW the Sands would be intriguing but given what I've read about it on here, it doesn't sound any better than Harrah's Chester.

I'm farther from the Borg than you are!
How do you travel down to AC, that the distance isn't greater? I'm guessing you're not coming down 95 and crossing over in Philly/Camden

Interestingly, for me, the time to DE Park and Parx will be about the same... while Chester saves 12 minutes or so. Not enough to worry about, I can pick the best room.

It will be interested to see the volume... and how that affects Sands Bethlehem, if it does.

There are two ways to go. They're both pain in the ass drives, and they both take the same amount of time even though distance-wise one is longer than the other.

The first way is a straightforward march down 611 through North Philly, hang a right at US 1, take that to 76 East and go over the Walt Whitman. This is the shorter distance of the two ways but you have to go through the 'hood. If I'm driving home at 2 am from the Borg I will never use this option.

The other way is to navigate through NE Phila, take that to 95 South, and then get on the Walt Whitman exit just past the sports complex. This way is safer but it's longer because I have to go north to go south. Especially if I use Woodhaven Rd instead of one of the exits more south (e.g. Cottman Ave., Harbison Ave.). The advantage of Woodhaven Rd. is that there's less local driving to do, even though I have to drive more miles to do that.

BTW once I'm at Woodhaven Rd., as any local would know, I'm practically on Parx's doorstep. See why I want this room to open already?

Hmmm... this probably doesn't work, but what about Turnpike 76E to NJ and the GS Parkway or something from there? It's not obvious, but with the speed you could average, it might work?
