Ari,
Is there a published card room rules book for Parx like the one Mohegan Sun has on their site?

Pretty disappointed with all these NL tourneys. Would have been great to throw a HOSE in there, but at least there's one LHE.

he was being sarcastic...listen...some people who have never come to parx read this thread before they come...if they are reading about people's ridiculous over the top complaints all the time, it's going to make them less likely to come in. i mean talking about changing a structure here and there is one thing but some people are so ridiculous with their complaints it's just bad for the room.

i'm not saying to paint an overly-rosy picture or anything but talking about getting mugged in the parking lot is insane and if someone has never come here (especially women) they might think twice...the parking lot is very well lit...or people complaining about a bathroom being dirty when there is an attendant in there like 95% of the time cleaning.

anyway there's no point to complain in this thread anyway...go talk to a manager at the casino...you think ari is writing down all of this and bringing it to meetings or something?

i just don't get all the complaining...parx is freaking awesome and it's only going to get better...this thread should be for regs yelling at each other over stuff and talking about the goings on at parx.

If you think it is that awesome you probably haven't played at many places or maybe you are just very easy to please.

Parx positives...

*well run tables
*good variety of games
*well run (nice, competent dealers, etc)
*convienient location
*nice atmosphere

Parx negatives...

*****ty comps
*high rake
*rip off drink service ($5 for a playboy, $7 for a mix drink, get real, I understand this isn't vegas and if they want to cover the cost of free alcohol etc fine , but don't massively overcharge the players, its a poker room not a night club)
*horrible food options (****ty noodle bar is best option without a hike)
*dirty bathrooms ( just cause afroman is in there playing games on his phone doesn't mean it is clean)
*some security issues

Most of the really important stuff is pretty good. They really lack in a lot of the smaller intangibles that could be easily fixed. But can't beat they are 15 minutes away from my house so I'll be there.

Ok, first, sorry for trolling a bit, just trying to deal with these recurring posts with some humor..

Spacecake touched on this and I'll re-iterate; Poker players love to complain, I get it, poker tears your heart out sometimes and its hard not to become bitter. Going on the internet and complaining about minor issues as if they were a big deal makes people feel better. Understood, but the problem is that if all this thread does is constantly rehash the same recycled minor things that frankly aren't going to change because they really aren't that big a deal then you will just be scaring people away.

Parx is the best option for people when they are looking for something local. Why send them somewhere else? Like all message boards, about 2% post and the rest just lurk. A new player clicks on a thread, starts to read the beginning, then realizes they'll never get through thousands of posts and skips to the end and sees nothing but negativity and thinks wow, that place must suck!

If you really have an issue with something, talk to Ari, (or if he's not there talk to the shift manager on duty) he's really approachable and will give you the time to explain your issue and tell you what he thinks.

All the complaints basically boil down to Parx is local and all they have to do is be better than any other local place. Asking them to do what is done in LV or AC is pointless because they don't face the same local competition.

The security thing is nonsense. The parking lot is well lit, there are always a minimum of 2 clearly marked Parx Security Trucks with orange flashing lights on them patrolling it. Until someone shows me some Stats that show a recent crime wave, I'm going to stand by my point that Bensalem is a safe, low crime area. Can we please stop with the fear mongering posts cause some shady guy talked to you one time, or cause you're mad that the wrong kind of people can now take public transportation to Parx?

Truth, since first opening they boosted the light output to much more than your mall parking lot, and I have never left without seeing a security truck if not two patrolling the parking lot. The reception area is almost always manned with people working the desk selling bus tickets and people coming in and out even at 4am. No one has been mugged or attempted muggings in the eight months of playing cards, please stop making it sound like Bartertown.
I seriously can't help but feel the people complaining about this have never been to other casinos. Hell the outside parking at Borgata is WAY darker and just as distant (not complaining about it, just comparing), and I have never seen a security truck patrolling it.

I will agree on drink prices, also they definitely could use more food options. The bathrooms do need more attention.
But the comps? Up to $2 an hour is great for the room, and fantastic for the area, look at Chester, Deleware Park, and the Pocono rooms. Pretty sure that PA pays almost twice in taxes on the games that NJ does so they don't have as much leeway with things, they had to push hard to get $2.
The time/rake seems pretty standard to me what game are you not happy with it at?

One interesting thing is the action on this forum, if you sort B&M for views and replies this thread is in the top 4 in both. Pretty amazing for how short the room is open, good or bad it definitely has people talking. Also of note, east coast guys on here talk about poker a whole lot more than the west coast

Its cause we don't have the awesome weather year round like they do in SoCal, so we spend our time cooped up inside getting more and more bitter and fighting with people on the interwebs.

I have been surprised that during breaks in the tournament the room doesnt get more smokey with so many people smoking near the bar. I assumed it would be terrible

i am fairly easy to please (and i have played in at least 10 or 12 rooms and been in dozens of casinos).

saying ***ty comps is a little strong. we get $1 an hour. at borgata I got 2 borgata dollars per hour which equaled one dollar when i went to buy food.

rake seems reasonable...obv i wish it was timed or whatever but it's standard to everywhere else around here and better than west coast or home games.

agree with you on the rip off drink service

i love the noodle bar but yeah they could spruce up the bar or something

i see zero security issues...anyone that wants to buy mugging insurance, PM me and i'll give you 100 to 1 on any amount.

btw you mentioned it with others but convenient location is #1 reason we should be happy to have parx.

keep in mind too when they build the new expansion a lot of these issues will be auto resolved...you'll be able to valet park if you are super worried about that, there will be more food options, etc.. etc..

anyway you have valid points - i just slightly disagree with the importance of some of them and just wish you guys would stop complaining about little things while the room is trying to build new clients.

Well I finally made it. I wasn't there long but I got the lay of the land and must admit I was surprisingly pleased with what I saw.

I was predisposed to not like it. I actually wanted to NOT like it. I wanted them to reinforce my belief that Borgata is the only place in the NE that has gotten it right and everyone else is mailing it in.

Not so at Parx. First I was really impressed with how large the room was. And it is an actual room, not some corner that they carved out and chucked a few tables at. The bar area at the back is a total home run for smokers. You can step away from your game and grab a smoke while missing the minimum number of hands. The dealers were friendly and seemed to know what they were doing (very small sample size for me though). If you hate the chips at Borgata...well...you won't hate the chips at Parx. Also, the presence of the blue $2 chips in the 1/2 game I played in really helped move the game along and I'm sure they have the same impact on 2/5.

Parking was a snap (and free!). Although I was there mid day during the week the lots look plenty big to handle weekend traffic.

The not so great...
Not sure what kind of cards they are using but they didn't seem very high quality.
A few people at the table I was at were discussing eating and more than one person said the food at Parx leaves a lot to be desired. I wasn't there nearly long enough to eat so I have no idea how much truth there is to this.

I hope I can spend a bit more time the next time I go and check out more of the place. The bottom line is, I will be back!

I would again like to anonymously thank my Company for landing a huge job ten minutes away from Parx.

Unless something has changed in the last 1.5 weeks, they use standard plastic kem-type cards, just like every other cardroom.

If anything the cards seem too thick to me...makes them hard squeeze...

I don't know what you're doing with your cards if you need to squeeze them. I can only say that they are utterly standard cardroom cards.

by squeeze I meant bending just the top part up so I can look at them stealthily. I thought this was a standard term....

Also I was not complaining...I was refuting another's complaint.
