Totally agree.

Pretty sure there's a pool of players @ Parx that would play 7CS, just not w/ a high ante. I think Ari is on record saying that PA rules don't allow .50 halves on the tables ? So...you're left with either no ante or $1.

After playing stud in AC for a while now and getting to know the ol' timers, they are total creatures of habit. Really, do you think these guys care about creating 'action' ? If you were to alienate these guys by spreading a high ante game, I don't think we'll see a game going at all.

And I know it seems hard to believe, but 2-10 is a much better game than 1-5.
Just my .02 cents...

Now if we were playing a 25 game w/ $5 antes, $40-$45 preflop is a little different imo.

I just think the game is a bit too small for antes.

Stud is a nit game. Not sure why people keep trying to make it an action fest (I do , but I'd rather not offend the "moneymaker effect" generation). Like I said before, if you don't like the money in the pot at that stake then start a 10 or 25 game.

I think there should be a "dabble" stud game for those who don't want to play big. I want to play the guy who is thinking "...it's only $2-$4 more per street than I'm used to and I can win 50%-100% more per pot then I'm used to as well..."<<<< the same nit that thinks this (and is going to play regularly because of this thought) is the same nit that is not going to want $20 in forced bets per hour at this level. If he wanted forced bets he can try his luck at a $5 BJ or 3cp table.

You guys can do what you want. I just think you should give it a shot w/out antes and see how it goes. $8 isn't gonna make or break anyone ITT. I'm sure if the people that are considering this game ITT play, your not going to have to worry about small pots relative to the stake. There will be plenty of action w/ you guys. Good for you, good for the casino.

Do you want to play $50+ pots regularly, or do you want to complain about the $8 that isn't there? You need to build the player pool, and your not gonna get the players described above if you have antes in a game playing this low IMHO.
You're hung up on the absolute dollar amounts in the pot, and that's missing the point.

Whether you're playing $0.05/0.10 or $500/1000 in Bobby's room, the key is the size of the ante in relation to the bring in and raise sizes. In both games it makes no sense to call, complete, or raise anything but monsters if there is no pot before the cards are dealt.

Likewise, if the ante is too big, it's horrible NOT to complete, limp, call, or even raise with a wide range of hands.

The key is finding the sweet spot in ante size that both encourages gambling but allows skill to play a large role.

This is true whether you're playing for quarters at the kitchen table or orange chips at the Borgata.

Thanks, Pip. Great to be back. However with work and saving money for a new car, I haven't been making regular, frequent visits here and the Borgata since I came home from a fun Vegas trip last March (where I broke-even on the whole trip, BTW). While I'll stick to low-stake home games for now, I'll take some occasional "live" shots. Catch the fish when you can!

PLO was fun. We started four-handed after 9 pm. When I left, it was going strong six-handed. Lots of regs in the game. Gameplay-wise, I started with $250 and was playing my ABC game. Great starting cards came, but mainly didn't hit the flop. I finally busted out with top-two and a nut flush draw vs. someone's set of 7's on the flop.

Had fun. Though I made a crapload of money back and some net-profit at $50 blackjack at the main casino with $100 left. Cashed-out $650 in two minutes. :-) Table games were mostly filled to the brim and busier than normal, thanks to The Situation's appearance at 360.

The room was completely packed last night - all 45 tables in action. And Fridays have been slower over the past few weeks. Looks like everyone is chasing their freeroll status early!

I got in a good 10 hours yesterday. Probably drank a little too much and made a $200 mistake trying to push someone off a straight. Other than that played decent and made a respectable $280.

you guys are brutal j/k

I just wanted to think if this will be a tourney filled with cash game players or tournament type of players. Seems if 60+ hours are required then someone can certainly be skilled in both, but won't there be a lot of players who mostly play cash games and are in the tourney because it's free? (although i guess the point of the freeroll is to get the cash game players to play in the future tournaments as well as promote the casino and the new tournaments)

A person who only plays tournaments will be much less likely to put in 60+ cash game hours.

The purpose of the freeroll is to get the cash game players to play the cash games. The purpose of future tournaments is the get the tourney players to play the cash games. I wouldnt overthink the quality of the freeroll field... structures of freerolls like this are always terrible and they are usually chopped pretty early. The much more important question is how the prospect of tournaments might change the cash game pools.

i didn't think your question was ridiculous anyway. lots of casino's allow you to buy into "free-roll" tournies. tampa hard rock usually does one every month. play 50 hours or pay 400.

I am new to the area and wanted to start playing some $1/2. I have a few questions about the game for the regs.

I see a lot of stud and PLO talk on this board. Are there a lot of $1/2 NLHE games running regularly?

When are the busy times in the poker room? How's the play at this limit. . . .similar to other rooms?

What's the crowd like? Older? Younger?

Is the room new?

What's the max buy-in at this limit?

I am thinking of making a late trip tonight. . . .

Thanks,
Tony

Tony, people talk about Stud and PLO because that's basically the only chance those players have in getting their games going.

There are plenty of 1/2 tables always going. Very little wait. Nice new room, about 5 months old. $300 max buyin. I don't find anything dramtically different from the crowd and games vs a room like the Borgata.

Here's the current game report:
$1-2 No Limit Hold'em 21
$2-5 No Limit Hold'em 6
$4-8 Limit Hold'em 2
$5-10 No Limit Holdem 2
$15-30 Limit Holdem 3
$30-60 Limit Holdem 1

I don't get how it can be so busy on a school night. Don't people work? I'd love to go out there and play on a thursday night, especially seeing 3 $15-30 games going, but damn work gets in the way of playing poker. I can go out to a local bar for a couple hours on a week night, but driving 30 miles, playing a few hours, and then driving back 30 miles is too much for my lazy !@#. How the heck do you all do it?

Ari!
Are the payouts still the same as previously mentioned in this thread? and if not, any chance you can post payouts/structure and whatever else you think is important for the freeroll?

thanks

Man... Is the 8-16 completely dead? 4-8 to 15-30 is a heck of a jump.
Parx Casino (Bensalem, PA) -- FAQ in OP Quote

It's definitely not completely dead, it runs quite frequently. But it is a more brittle game since it often loses people who are just waiting for (another) 15-30 to start, and the remaining players may not want to play short.

The 8/16 does appear to be on life support, which is unfortunate. The last time I played it there was some concern that it would break if they called another 15. I would've felt bad, except that the game never would've started in the first place if not for waiting 15 players starting short (then the 8 regs filled it up). FFS play short for a half hour, silly nits.

Get done work at 4, home 4:30, nap til 6, dinner and at parx by 7, play til 11. home by 1130, in bed by midnight. 4 hour session for a 25-30 minute drive each way is OK for me since there are no tolls.
