Re: PARX Poker Thread

Heading to Parx for the first time tonight, looking forward to it! One question: will it be possible to get into Chickie & Pete's tonight for dinner (say 8 pm) for 6 guys w/out too long a wait, or is it just gonna be slammed w/ the NCAA tournament? If the latter, any reviews of the Cafe Parx, is that a decent place to grab a burger?

Just call for a reservation in a little while, and you should be good for Chickies.

We are still looking into that option, but as of today we are not going to offer valet parking.

Last night was the first night I've felt unsafe leaving Parx.

It was about 3:30AM. I cashed out $2800 at the cage and headed outside. Outside the door was a group of young, shady looking guys in hooded sweatshirts who appeared to be just hanging out and talking lowly amongst themselves. They struck me funny. . . out of place. My street sense kicked in and I "took a call" and headed back inside for a bit.

Unfortunately, the majority of criminals waiting outside of a casino to rob someone are not aware of boxes. Therefore, having a box wouldn't prevent some goofball that thinks your holding a roll from trying to take it (unless you announce to the robbers, pre-robbery, that you left all your money in your box and hope they believe you).

Re: PARX Poker Thread

Ive said this from day one, people like to think nothing can happen to them, or think that people are being paranoid, but the parking lot situation is bad news. Im always aware and try to take the best precautions when walking out late by myself, with or without money. Having a box isnt goin stop someone from attempting a robbery. I hope nothing ever happens, but valet parking and better secruity in the parking alot could save Parx bad press in the future.

Agreed, I always put $200-300 in my pocket and then have the remainder in my shoe or something.

Just so I have something to give them to insta go away.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

Probably some Spanish guys who took the Chinatown bus, hanging out waiting for the bus back. Why would they target just you when there are Asian sky-high rollers playing baccarat in the Asian pit? They routinely leave with 20K+ in wads of cash.

Security is lax at Parx East, that's for sure. Anyone can come in from the street and lie down, take a nap in the bus waiting area.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

I feel like playing poker tonight but I'm looking at the games list and it's all hold'em.

Will probably fire up some mixed games online instead.

Hope some other games crop up at some point. Love the room and people but don't feel like driving to just play hold'em

I'm still up for trying a 15/30 Stud (it would be half rake), or some type of mix. But we can't get any momentum going.

hmm sounds like a good idea. I'd probably get robbed in the bathroom putting it in my shoe tho . I usually only bring like 7-800 to Parx anyway(2-3 bis). At Borgata I'm comfortable bringing any amount.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

This place is awesome except for a few hicups. 1/2 is super fishy and didnt realize there was any place in the world that still played poker like that. I mean these guys were ****ing clueless> I witnessed a hand where what i think was a parapaligic(dude was in a wheel chair and had his nurse controlling his action)with a set of 4s and what seemed like an intelligent but cocky and tilted(i stacked him previous hand with set of 9's after telling him i had him crushed, he wanted to play hero and got dropped on his head) young dude had 2nd nut flush both were betting heavy into a mega stack(another kid running like god , i had a9o from ealry postion . flop q99 turn A, river brick, turns over pair of queens.... happily lost bare minimum(still cant believe that) with nut flush on turn river is a brick > young cocky dude and megastack both turn theyre hands up without realizing the parapaligic dude wasnt all in but had only like 20$ behind. Megastack felts both and youg cocky dude was so ****ed up he left his lucky silver dollar and i just didnt have the heart to see him lose everything, so i chased him down and made sure he got it back

People are really nice waitresses are super hot but late shift waitress had the most annoying voice i ever heard in my life(sounded like nails scraping against a chalkboard) floor dude(super russian accent) was super cool

I hate that theres no bad beat and i hate that they charge for drinks but besides that this place is ****ing awesomeeeeeee
Thanks for reading

I'd almost be MORE worried gettin mugged if I told them I left it in the box. You'd probably get a much worse beatdown.

I'm confused.
I know there are two buildings but I'm not sure which building the poker room is in.
Was looking forward to the start-up of tourneys.
Are you saying that besides massive parking lot potholes and an absence of adequate security, all poker players have to walk through a gauntlet of bus riders when entering and exiting the building?

No, there is a separate area for people waiting for buses, and seriously we are talking about 50-60 year old people. If you are even remotely threatened by walking around Parx East in the building make sure never to go to Chinatown as you would have a heart attack.

Side Note: Most of the potholes were at least patched (not saying it is awesome) but it is better. I personally park to the left and have never touched a pot hole. I don't want to get into the whole "wahh xxxx fanboy" style of arguing. But I will say the "security" issue is grossly out of proportion. I play here several times a week, and have not one single time walked to my car with another human being within 100' of me. I leave at all times from 10pm to 5am and never feel unsafe, and 90% of the time see a security truck with flashing yellow lights driving in circles around the lot. Obviously other people may have experienced different things but this is mine.

Edit: The poker room is in Parx East (if you walk in the doors on the left of the building, go up the escalator directly ahead of you, and turn left at the top, poker room is right there) If you are coming in the main entrance off Street Road, Parx East will be the building on the left without the big tv screens on it. Drive past the first entrance to the left of the building for closer parking.

Smaller cups are free. They have a larger cup of soda that is 2.25, with free refills at the bar.

One established place out east will regularly do "off-and-on" very late when the games are shorthanded (meaning a rotation of paying time each other half). Another place down south will often give free time or greatly reduced time even with a full table or close to full.

Parx seems to have a strict policy of never giving the players a break. For instance, recently we were playing 7 handed but one player had been away from the table for a long time. We asked to get half time, as if there were 6 players on the table, since there really were only 6 active players. I believe the standard policy at most casinos would be to take half time from the active players and full time from the absent one. We were turned down numerous times, and it was only after one player angrily stormed away that we received half time. For Parx to truly be #1, this sort of mentality has to change. Breaks on time here and there will make massive amounts of money in the long term, one would think.
Couldn't agree more. I was playing in the 5-10 NL must-move game, we were five-handed for an hour and they would not give us 1/2 time because there were two players absent from the table. And the floor knew we were about to lose a player to the main game, yet she still charged us full time. i subtly let her know that this was piss poor customer service, but she didn't seem to follow. Kind of got the feeling she didn't really know what she was doing.

I think the floors seem to be too locked in to "the letter of the rules," and don't understand the (both positive and negative) impact minor decisions like these have on the morale/goodwill of the players. I thought all casinos had learned the basic idea that giving a few perks and letting a few modest charges slide was massively profitable for the business. . . .

Another example:

My last session on a weeknight, the 5/10NL game broke when a bigger game (5/10NL + 50/100 Stud which morphed into 10/25NL) started up.

I and three other guys were willing to start a new 5/10NL and play short handed to get the game going. We sat around for 15 minutes while everyone got chips and the game got started.

We played a couple of hands -- literally a couple -- before the dealer push came. We asked the floor for free time. . . he said no! Maybe it was petty, but I made it pretty clear that I would stand up (essentially breaking the game) rather than pay rake to prop a new game. The floor looked annoyed but didn't give in. He consulted another floor, who then went to the shift manager. Meanwhile, the dealer won't deal a single hand.

Finally, after all that, we got a free half hour. The game filled up and ran solid till 3:30AM, but almost never got off the ground because of a stubborn floor. . . just bad business, imo.

My standard bearer for this is the Borg. . . I've spent hundreds of hours playing short-handed time-raked games there, and you can almost always count on the floor letting a few downs slide as the night progresses to help keep the game alive. Definitely one of the things they tend to get right there.

The $10/25 game at parx is sick. Anyone interested in a $25/50 maybe next weekend?
