Re: PARX Poker Thread

It just started running in the past week or so, so it's hard to say for sure. It seems to have gotten going at least two or three times already, maybe more, so it's gaining some momentum.

It was playing for a while last night but then something happened and it broke, I was leaving so I didn't get the full story.

Am at Parx now, waiting for the big mix game to start, and just learned what broke it last night.

Apparently, there was a screw up with the push, and the new dealer was late in arriving. One player was insisting on getting a new dealer (since one was overdue anyway) before he would play again. Since the game was only 4-handed at the time, the other players agreed not to play until the new dealer arrived. 15 minutes later, the new dealer finally showed up, but tried to collect time. The players complained that they shouldn't have to pay time since they had to wait 15 minutes for the push. The floor insisted they pay time, and so the players left the game in protest.

I heard this story from a reg (and I mean he is a stalwart in this casino) who says he won't be playing in the big mix game anymore after tonight. I assume if Ari would smooth everything out, things would be cool. I'd just hate to see this game suffer over something as silly as one time charge.

I'm not surprised, and I made at least one post about this sort of thing before. I've witnessed more than one of Parx's competitors giving free time in certain situations to promote the games and generally be player friendly--it's a small gesture but really means a lot. One established place out east will regularly do "off-and-on" very late when the games are shorthanded (meaning a rotation of paying time each other half). Another place down south will often give free time or greatly reduced time even with a full table or close to full.

Parx seems to have a strict policy of never giving the players a break. For instance, recently we were playing 7 handed but one player had been away from the table for a long time. We asked to get half time, as if there were 6 players on the table, since there really were only 6 active players. I believe the standard policy at most casinos would be to take half time from the active players and full time from the absent one. We were turned down numerous times, and it was only after one player angrily stormed away that we received half time. For Parx to truly be #1, this sort of mentality has to change. Breaks on time here and there will make massive amounts of money in the long term, one would think.

Hey Ari, how about doing the players and staff a solid and having a bunch of hand sanitizers installed in the room. A good place would be on the columns where the trash bins are.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Thanks.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

Being on topic is more important than creating posts with meaningful content as this is a forum about things that happen, have happened, or will happen at live brick and mortar establishments.

I posted in SSNL back when I played online so I'm used to posting about theory, concepts and strategy. That sort of talk seems to be discouraged here which is understandable.

As for things directly relevant to Parx, what level of tournaments are most of you interested in? Chester maxes out at the $175+20 level and I hope Parx offers something higher as they seem to offer and encourage higher limit everything. Chester is capping their tournaments now at relatively low numbers of tables. Hopefully Parx executes well on the tourneys, should bring back players I've seen moving to other casinos.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

for the 50-100 Stud / 5-10 NL mix game ONLY, the max buy-in has been increased to 5k.

Don't those limits seem weighted too heavily towards stud?

Seems like it should either be:
  • 50-100 Stud / 10-25 NL
  • 25-50 Stud / 5-10 NL

I've just always thought that NL plays about 4x most limit games. Also, stud has an extra big bet round over games like LHE. . . .

I think sanitation stations are a good idea...any update on cleanliness of chips?

I don't mind $150-$200 range but I would also like to see <$100 tournies in the mix. Maybe some DON sng's or low BI, single table steps to bigger tournies.

Taj used to have a single table step satty to their USPC. $10 table, $100 table, and a $1k table. Win $10 table, get $100 table certificate, win $100 table, get $1k certificate, win $1k , get ticket to main. Not that it would be needed here, but single table satties would definitely be great for $200+ tournaments.

[edit] I still would like to see an optional $5 dealer fee on all tournies for more starting chips as well. This is good for all. Something like $175+$20+(optional)$5 for 5k more in starting chips.

Does it devour the 5/10NL game?

I'm decent at stud, but don't know if I want to wade through a nitty 50/100 Stud round to play 5/10NL.

With the way people talk here, I would think the 50/100 side would be juicy. making the 5/10 side even juicier. I know if I had a roll to sit 50/100 , I'm trying to force action at 50/100 so the aggros go super aggro when 5/10 comes around. May the stuck try and unstick...especially late in the session.
could be a crappy line..but what do I know, I play 1/2-2/5.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

The mix-game was player created. It started as 30-60 Stud / 5-10 NL, until the players morphed it into 50-100 Stud. Kicking up the NL side has been suggested but has been a no-go among the players to this point.

But, it does not devour the 5-10 NL game. There was a full table of 5-10 NL going last night right next to the mix game.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

I would prefer NO STRADDLES in the LHE games. If a player wants to Raise Blind, then that is the player choice. But, to straddle and have an option when it comes back to the player(which is obviously the definition of a straddle), I don't like. Just my "2cents", and I play the 15-30 & 30-60 LHE games a lot there, THX

How bad is the cigarette smoke in the poker room? Do people smoke in the poker room or just on the casino floor and it filters into the poker room? Im very sensitive to smoke. Thanks.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

in a LHE game with a straddle does it mean that all bets are doubled? if in a 30/60 would blinds be 15/30/60(straddle) and open raise 120? or just 90. i dont play LHE but i would imagine that this would be good for the game either way.

now for a no limit game straddle are always good. the last couple days that i have when to the parx the 2/5 games that i have been in need something like this to juice up the game. the 1/2 games prob had bigger avg pots.

Ari I dont know if this happens at 1/2 but at 2/5 when you guys start a new game it kills a different one in less than 1hr(i would guess about 1/7 time you start a new game this happens). when this does not happen a couple of the tables play short for 40 mins or so. last night(friday) they called a new table 20 or 30 mins b4 i arrive there were like 5 seats open so i sat and played at a table with 2 open seats. in 30 mins floor comes over and locks the seats and says i have a game that is breaking(lol 7:30ish). game does not break we play with locked seats for 20 mins. i go ask same floor if a table is breaking and he says no. seats get opened back up we get a player weee. then maybe 30min a table breaks and we are filled. with a list bc they had to draw for seats(8:30ish). this table when back to playin short when a guy left to play 5/10 another lost a big pot then i left bc it was a 50 year old reunion and 1 grandkid lol.

just wondering if you have ever thought of or considered making the new game a must move to protect the other games? I dont mine playin short that much but ppl tightin up bc they like playin mutiway.

my other question is y you dont like straddles or unsure about them?

Re: PARX Poker Thread

I'm there now waiting to be seated... 1 8/16 LHE game(just started, shorthanded, but it will go for a while), 1 15-30LHE game, and the 50-100/5-10NL is 3 handed. They said "there is atleast 1 guy coming in" so that's hopefully 4. There is 1 5-10NL game also. The main reason for this post is, There is 5plyrs on the 30-60LHE List of Interest,so it might go again tonight.

The poker room isn't bad at all (and I am pretty sensitive). The main casino is fairly annoying..esp on a weekend. You can smoke at the bar in the poker room but its pretty far from the tables.

How are the 2/5 games compare to Borgata? Are games general tougher or softer(both weekdays and weekends). Thanks in advance.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

I'd say Borgata is softer in general on both weekdays and weekends for the tourist factor. But if you are a good player (i.e. you clearly make money from inferior regs) then Parx is better simply because it plays deeper as the minimum buy-in is $200 (awesome) and the max is $1000 (even more awesome). Bigger pots means more money.

I win about $50 per hour at Borg over about 400 hours simple size. I think I am one of the better 2/5 regs. What do you think my win-rate would be at Parx?

Also, since a lot of the kids I know who play online have quit and have either got real jobs or play life(or both). Do you guys think live poker is going to be much tougher this year than the past?

It will be higher if you are comfortable buying in for $1000. I used to play online 200nl. I wasn't a top online reg and I've made more live than online for a long while now.

First raise would be to 90. But the straddle would allow for 5 bets maximum preflop instead of the usual 4. Post flop plays the same.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

Just got back from Parx. Regarding the freeroll - The floorman stated the 60 hours needed is from April 1-May 16. (The freeroll is May 17). Previous posts here have said the 60 hours needs to be played from April 1-April 30.

Ari (or anyone else in the know) - can you clarify if you the 60 hours is only for the month of April or if it's the full 6 weeks through May 16? Thanks!
