Re: PARX Poker Thread

How bad is the snow at Parx today? Will it keep the crowds out of the poker room?

Also, will they still race in this weather? Thanks.

I'm curious about this (see previous comment). If you're only "hopeful" at 5/5, how will that be any more sustainable than at 1/2? And, aren't you more likely to catch players who might take a shot (such as me) at 1/2?

Also, do you find that 1/2 players don't build up enough to feed 5/5?
Well first off the 1/2 combined with the "suggestions on how to play" of a few players made it a weird game. It was highly encouraged to come in for 5 if you were going to play. In other words, coming in for 2 or 8 was frowned upon. I was fine with it. But some of the players limped sometimes which caused some discussions. I would not call them arguments, but they were not good for the game. PLO is just not a game for the $1s and $2s imo

Also, people always look at me like I have 3 heads when I say it should be 5/5 instead of 2/5. Why would we want to play 2/5 just because that's the standard? Just make it 5/5 and get those $2 chips that look like the 5s off the table completely

Ok, say you are a player that might take a shot...if you are typical of the ones doing that...you might put $100 or $200 on the table and play pretty snug, right? That kind of stuff doesn't make for a great game. In the 4 hours that we played no one really made any money. The Borgata has had a 1/2 game for a few years..in trying to project the future we can look to that as a guide...there has been no building or breeding towards a 2/5 or 5/5 game from that.

There are a few Biter Old Men in this game, that when they get stuck - get even more miserable than usual. Every time I sit in this game, we have to endure the endless chatter of one of them, who can never seem to STFU about anything. He's a nice guy (sometimes, unless stuck & steaming), but JFC... STFU for a bit, please!

Then there is the constant struggle for Table Captain. I mean, I'm all for helping the dealers who struggle reading the boards and pushing the pot, but this can be done in a less condescending manner.

Welcome to O8, though. Game of the future, populated by relics from the past

I'm confused about your point. No flame, but on one hand you suggested making the game a 5/5 structure and now here you say "model after the Borg".

Where ya going with this?

Oh, sorry...I'm not much of a writer. I should clarify that the Borgata 1/2 game is a guide of what NOT to do.

But thanks for keeping it flame free

Re: PARX Poker Thread

1/2 PLO I understand there is a problem but what is it. is it that there are wierd #s preflop and postflop lots of changing? is there not wierd #s in a 1/2/5 game? do the blinds nvr fold? in a 2/5PLO wouldnt this be same problem.

i have an idea idk if it will help or work. what if after the flop just make it rounded to nearest 5.

Re: PARX Poker Thread

my 2 cents
1. I am a big fan of the $5 bring in both for making it easier for the dealers, and for making the game play bigger,(its standard among the vegas rooms and its been very succesfull everytime i've played 1-2 5 bring in there) but Ari said he doesn't like it, its his room, and w/o being able to come in for $10 or higher limping for $5 kind of handcuffs you. Also explaining the $5 bring in to every new random that sits in is ridiculous and then hearing each new players thoughts comments on how to make it better every time gets old quick. Everyone loves to limp in the game just make it $10 after a limp and build the pot that way imo and get rid of the bring in to eliminate confusion, bickering, arguing/explaining among regs and new comers.
2. Sure the player pool for the 1-2 game is big enough, but everyone plays maybe once a week which is fine. The players that are filling the seats and "taking shots" are alot of O8 players who buyin short, never raise, and only bet the nuts. Along with this people are generally very conservative when learning a new game and the lack of big pots recently goes to show this. People in live poker rooms generally play straight no limit, or all the limits games, and plo sadly falls into the latter.

My suggestion is to get a half PLO half NLH game running at 1-2 and 2-5. Once you get the bigbet players (NL) playing plo the game will grow, both in size of pots and popularity imo. Plus once people are stuck in nl the plo rounds will play much bigger as its quicker and easier to get unstuck or further stuck in plo.

Weird pot numbers preflop and postflop..guys trying to get everyone to opening to $5..having to try and explain that to everyone.

Don't make it 2/5 PLO..just make it 5/5 PLO..all the chatter will go away..along with the $2 chips everyone hates

There were a ton of 1/2 games going on, but none came over last night to try PLO. Two guys left the game to play 2/5 NLHE. Another one or two did not sit because it was too small of a game

I'd be up for a 2/5 NLHE/PLO mix sometime. (5/5 would be better if we could do that) I might even try and organize such a thing

PA law does permit draw poker.

I am unclear if this includes lowball games - which, IMO are the only draw games worth playing (please no Badugi flames - the game sucks).

I like 2-7 Triple Draw..but not Badugi. I used to think they were the same game when I first learned them..but they are very different.

I played that O8 game on a Sat. for a good 4-5 hours and got to see those clowns 1st hand. I recognized that three of the guys were Taj 5/10 kill regs. Nuff said...

Also agree that low limit O8 Table Captains are condescending d-bags.

I would love to play a 5/5 PLO/NLH mix that is my absolute favorite game ever. I would have to be 500 min buy in imo. Lets try to do this on Tuesday, I think several of the 1/2 plo players that played last Tuesday would play, maybe we could get the 5/5 game going in addition to the 1/2 game. I will start short, even heads up just to see if we can get the game going.

Can we try to start a 1/2 or 5/5 PLO/NLH mix tonite? I'll drive over immediately, if you get a few on the list for tonight (after Jets/Colts, ~20-25minutes)

Funny u should say that I just started a list for 2/5 plo. ther is a 1/2 plo game going full with a list. Come down I'm sure we can get it going short. Hopefully it will fill up.

I asked and it has to be 2/5 but its a red chip game some it plays almost the same

It's a bit of a drive from Hoboken but I'm on my way. Once you get it 3-handed, reply in here (I'll be checking 2p2 via my phone). But, Don't bust the fish too fast!!

Very nice, did you guys ever try to get it going?

A 2/5 PLO/NLHE mix might be great as it could attract players on either the 2/5 or 5/10 NLHE waitlist.

1/2 PLO with a $5 min bring-in (typically with betting increments of $5 thereafter) is pretty standard in live omaha, and waaaay different than 1/2/5PLO with (semi-)forced $5 blind bet under the gun.

Great 30/60 game last night. I realize now that we had the blinds at 15/30, but perhaps they were supposed to be 20/30? Seems a bit silly without the $10 chips.

Ari, any chance of getting $10 chips made up? The game worked last night, but things would certainly run more smoothly with $10 chips. For the long term health of this game, $10 chips are a must.
