Welcome to the Parx Poker thread!

Basic information:

As of Jan 2018, the poker room has been relocated to the main casino. It is on the west side of the building, between Chickie & Pete's and the new Xcite Center theater. Entering from the west entrance, it is a short (but circuitous) walk through various slot areas to the poker room entrance in the back left corner. The poker room is smoke-free, but the main casino floor is not.

Small daily tournaments will probably be held in the main poker room. Larger tournament locations are still TBD, but will likely not take place in the main poker room, instead being held either in the old Parx East building or in the Xcite center. More details once they are finalized.

Located in Bensalem (Just outside Philadelphia) PA: Location Map
No hotel is onsite, but several are very close by: Hotels with a Parx poker rate (scroll down to Where to Stay) and Other Nearby Hotels

Amenities:
Automatic shufflers. Every seat has a USB charging port located under the table. Alcohol is available, but is not free. Tableside food is available in the afternoon and evening, but with a more limited menu than previously. Other restaurants options are a short walk away in the main casino - you will need to walk over and get it yourself. Delivery from outside establishments is no longer permitted. Coffee, tea, soda, juices, and water is complementary. Tableside massage is available during peak hours.

Other game types will also run sporadically. Larger NLHE and PLO games often run during Big Stax times. This is the official Parx list of games (scroll down to Game Types), but it will sometimes be a little out of date.

Buy In Min/Max and rake:

1-2 NLHE is 60-300, $5+1 rake
1-3 NLHE is 100-500, $5+1 rake
2-5 NLHE is 200-1000, $5+1 rake
10-10 NLHE is 500-3000, $6/hh time, no BBJ
all bigger games are 100BB min, No max

2-2 PLO is 200-700, $5/hh time, no BBJ
5-0 PLO is 200-1000, $5/hh time, no BBJ
5-5 PLO is 500-2000, $6/hh time, no BBJ
10-10 PLO and higher are 100BB min, No Max

All limit games are 10 small bets Min, No Max
3-6 LHE is $5+1 rake
6-12 is $4/hh time, no BBJ
8-16 is $5/hh time, no BBJ
15-30 is $6/hh time, no BBJ
40-80 is $7/hh time, no BBJ

In general, games get half rake if 6 players or less.

Comps:
* Comp values change somewhat over time. At this time, our best guess is that all cash games pay ~$0.90/hr in comps, except for 10/10 NoLimit or 15/30 Limit and higher pay ~$1.80 /hr.
* Comps are immediately available on your card. (You can ask a dealer to swipe you out and back in to maximize your comps before placing an order.)
* Comps expire after 60 days.
* Comps can be used at the bar or when ordering food or drinks from the waitresses or servers in the poker room. They are also valid at any of the eateries located in the main casino building such as Chickie & Pete’s, Parx Grill (steakhouse), & the food court restaurants. You can also use them to buy Parx clothing and other swag, located in the display at the front of the room.
* Comps all spend dollar for dollar.
* The rating or color of card do not affect anything comp related in the poker room at this time.

Bad Beat Jackpot

Parx now has a BBJ. Hold’em games that pay a pot rake are eligible: this essentially means 1-2 NLHE and 2-5 NLHE. $1 is taken from each pot once it reaches $20 and becomes BBJ eligible. 80% of this money funds the BBJ, the remaining 20% funds promotions (listed below). All BBJ money is returned to the players as BBJ or promotions.

Simple rules: Get beat out of a $20+ pot while holding quad sixes or better and you'll take home 40% of the jackpot! The winning hand takes 20% and the last 40% is divided between the remaining players at the table!

Promotions:

20% of the BBJ funds collected go to fund promotions of various sorts, typically (half) hourly high hands during specified hours. Check Bravo, twitter, or the website for details on the specific promos running now. Note that only games which are BBJ eligible are eligible for promotions.

Getting there:

There are no direct buses from either Philadelphia or NYC to Parx. Getting there by car is definitely easiest.

Using Mass Transit from NYC, your best bet is to take NJ Transit to Trenton, optionally take Septa to the Eddington Station, then take a taxi or uber the last few miles to Parx.

From Philadelphia, bus routes 50, 130, 20, and 150 make stops at Parx, but not all buses run at all times. Check the Septa website for more info.

All I have to say is - WOW. I will definitely be visiting this place - 100 tables seems wild though, I wonder if that will really happen and how many tables they can run on a daily basis (weekday, etc) and what stakes. This does not bode well for Atlantic City.

If you have straddling, cash plays, buying the button legal and allowed this would really not bode well for A.C.

OMFG... the only bummer about this will be location. Where it is situated is a traffic nightmare already. The existing roadways are already over 100% capacity and there is no way to improve them.

That said, it will beat the **** out of driving to AC.

Fingers crossed the state cronies don't screw this up, trying to get it signed into law!!!

This just cuts the commute for Philly players. AC will still be a destination due to its shore location, especially in the warmer months.

This is interesting because based on map directions this is about half the distance from my home that AC is.

Not sure with the traffic though as someone has already mentioned that this is a very high traffic area.

Not for those of us who hate the summer weekend traffic jams, through the roof hotel prices and endless lines to eat.

AC is not what I'd call a destination. If I want to take the family to the beach, er, um... "shore" - we go south to the much nicer towns.

I've made the ride a couple of times to check out the casino should they get poker. The road leading to the Casino is a bit crowded with a few lights, but not a nightmare by any stretch. I live in Burlington City and cruise over the Burlington Bristol Bridge, hop on 95 for 5 minutes, then it's about 10 minutes on Street Rd even with relatively heavy traffic. I did make the trip around 11am and left around 1pm. It may take a tad bit longer during rush hours. Here's a nice little clip from that article. I am so pumped up!!!

Trust me, it is bad. Street Rd. is horrible during rush hour and with the myriad strip malls and fast food places, it will back up like an old sewer with the added influx from casino traffic. Their are back roads that locals know, but they are mostly 1 lane cow paths, that are crowded now.

In any case, as bad as it will be, it will still be better than the trek to AC during the summer

WP... This is true

I wish them the best with this. I lived about three miles from Philadelphia Park for ten years. I'm sure the traffic sucks but it can't be worse then getting over the bridges and onto the A.C. Expy.

I'm actually hoping that they are not going to spread higher stakes NL games there.

It would cut some of the action at the Borgata's 5/10 and higher games in half easily...

Anyone know how long of a commute (non car) it is from NYC to Philly?

It really depends on how many free rooms they offer. If Ac is still offering tons of free rooms...it wont make that big of a difference with communte. pay $200 for a room or drive 45 more mins for free?

Poker is PA cannot come soon enough for me. I am in the Reading, PA area. Right now, I go to Atlantic City about once a month (and a little more often than that in the summer). Once poker comes to Pennsylvania, I can't see me traveling to Atlantic City more than a couple times a year.

NJTransit from Penn Station to Trenton = 60 mins (express train) or 90 mins for non-express.

SEPTA train from Trenton to Phila = 45-50 mins.

If you want to spend a LOT more $$$, Amtrack from Penn Station to 30th St. Station about = 1.5 hours.

Bus? No idea. Prolly 2.5+ hours of the worst hell you could imagine.

You could take the SEPTA train to that commuter station at Street Road and 95 (I forget the name, haven't lived there in 7 years) which is only about 15 minutes from Trenton. Then take the bus up Street Road to the track rather than go all the way into the city.

Do you guys think that the Casinos in PA are going to be very spread out? Or do you think there will be developments a la AC/Vegas style luxury casinos all in one area?

It's Croydon Station (IIRC). And, yes - that would be the most ideal way. From Trenton to Croydon ~ 10-15 mins. Bus from there.... another 10? +/-. Not sure how often the bus runs, but it's only 2-3 miles up Street Road from the train station. You could taxi it (for immediate gratification)

I am rooting for AC. i have many great memories of her going back a long time.

But you are wrong. It will cut the commute for all of Eastern Pa. + Camden + Delaware + part of Virginia. Isn't New York City closer to Philly than to AC?

Sadly, this is bad news for AC. I hope their get their act together and become a great city to visit 12 months out of 12.

This is awesome for me in de. About half the commute is gone and all $10 in tolls also. I spend about 30-40 in gas/tolls everytime I go to ac.

The positive thing (from an AC customer perspective) that could result from this is that the casino's in AC will now have some real competition. They will be forced to act more "Vegas-like" to attract and retain customers.

Some thoughts:

1. Free parking.
2. Reasonable comp systems, without charging double points for non-casino owned shops/food.
3. More offers for lower tier frequent players.
4. More attention to upkeep and cleanliness of both casino and hotel rooms.
5. A general "We want your business and appreciate your business" attitude.

I don't feel sorry for AC casino's at all. They had years of a non-competitive market and now they will reap what they sowed.

The least impacted casino, IMO, will be the Borgata. They draw a different cliental and will adapt to this competition and retain their best customers. I'll still play at the Borgata, most likely not as often with Parx just a driver & 3-wood away. But, I am still loyal to the Borg and will give them my AC action. The smaller rooms and all of Trumps properties will suffer the most.

Of course, this in turn will force the PA casino's to adjust... eventually. We all will be better off from the competition.
