I got a call today that I have 60 days to surrender my box, because they have no idea when poker will reopen.

This could just be no new info, and they (the credit department, not the poker department) are being proactive about it, perhaps for some staffing or security reason. But it's clearly not a positive change either.

If I hear anything more definitive I will update.

Could be moving poker back to old room and clearing space ?

Id be interested in why gaming decided poker was too risky vs some other states.

Could be, though the reason I was given was "we have no idea when poker will reopen". Who knows if that's the actual reason, or just what she was told to say.

I'm not sure anyone would be able to credibly speculate on the real PGCB motivations without being there.

If forced to guess, my suspicion would be that they basically all agreed that poker is less profitable than table games, so to make as much room for the latter while maintaining social distancing according to their square footage formulae, they just kept poker closed for the time being, or until an area reaches green status. Possibly because the expense of dividers isn't worth it for poker, and this is a convenient excuse to keep them from having to explain it to poker players. Possibly because they feel like poker has more sharing of unsanitized chips and cards than tables games, and certainly does so less profitably to them.

The Sands/ now Wind Creek poker room has been permanently closed. Not a good sign for poker in PA.

How do you know this? Are you basing this on the fact that all their poker dealers (and all casino dealers who haven't been called back yet) have been terminated from the furlough and were told they're not getting called back?

Yes, so yeah I suppose they could eventually use table games dealers for the poker room or rehire the laid off staff. That seems a long way off though.

So in other words, nothings new, and they didn't say the room is permanently closed. They're in the same situation as all the other PA casinos.

Yes, they laid off all their furloughed employees, they're not gonna keep paying them health benefits - but that isn't a tell that they or any of the PA casinos have "permanently" closed their poker rooms.

Speculation that Parx will open in 6 weeks which would be mid-late November. Not surprising that Parx is the only one trying either, they historically have put a lot more effort into their poker room than anywhere else in PA, have the biggest room, and have extra space (either current room or Parx East).

No shock. Said it in borgata thread... just needed one to open and everyone else will scramble to follow.

Perhaps moving back to old space. Idk if they would close boxes then reopen otherwise.

Heard from a parx employee last night that they are looking to reopen hopefully right after thanksgiving and that the plan was to move back to parx East.

Mohegan announcement is on Bravo:

Pending PGCB approval, the Poker Room will re-open on Friday, October 16th at 12pm.

7 days per week, noon to 3am, 7-handed with plexiglass, masks required, etc.

But only 5 tables will be spread, no tournaments.

mod: ok, I get that it's good news for Parx that other PA rooms are also planning to reopen, but let's keep this thread focused on Parx going forward.

More general posts can go into one of the communities threads or into the specific Venues thread that the post is about.

Thanks!

i'm not sure if any parx employees read this but if they are in fact reopening poker in a month or two if would be nice if we could wait to clear our boxes out until the new room is open

[mod edit: looks like this pic is actually from when the room was first opening, not a recent pic.]

Looks like main room has been gutted since June. Kind of like the old room better anyway. The walk back and forth through the casino was kind of brutal with parking and everything. Hopefully they have boxes again when they do open.

It's not clear to me that you know that it wasn't gutted exactly, they moved all the poker tables out and put in slot machines back in July (since poker wasn't approved and they needed to spread the slots out more).

It seems like a good sign that the slots are back out again. Perhaps that means there is movement towards getting poker back installed and ready. (Of course, this would mean staying in the main building rather than moving back to Parx East.)

Yes it seems after further examination on Parx Poker's Facebook page that this picture was taken when the new room was being built. You may delete at your discretion, apologize about that. Either way we are headed in the right direction and think the games are better off staying in the main Casino. Hopefully Tuesday's at Parx are not far off.

I am curious what would happen to food service if the games move to Park East? If they won't allow eating at the tables would they open space that could be used as a cafeteria?

if a pandemic hasn't taught you that eating food at a poker table is a bad idea (felt is disgusting, chips and cards are passed around for everyone to touch), idk if anything will.

there aren't many things more disgusting at a poker table (that are considered socially acceptable) than watching someone eat food with their hands while they play poker.
