How are games during the fall-winter at Parx? I just came from Florida and those were some of our busiest times of the year

10/10 and 5/10 are too similar to both run at the same time. There aren't enough players playing that high to run both.

Stick with the 10/10. More fun and more unique then 5/10.

That being said at times when the 10/10 is struggling to get off I think Parx management should be more receptive to the idea of calling the occasional 5/10 nl. With a mentality that it can't hurt.

Lately there has been no problems getting 10/10 running, so it shouldn't even be considered right now

This argument comes up every few months but its never brought up by a 10/10 reg. The game runs every day Mon-Fri and I believe it's been going on weekends also. The only other place on the east coast that has a 5/10+ this consistent is Borgata and their game starts later in the day.

No need to mess with a game as strong as this.

True. If 10-10 had problems firing off, I could see this as a possibility. Lately 10-10 has had enough players that its perfect the way it is.

Hello everyone! I apologize if any of the following can more easily be answered within the thread or elsewhere. I was just hoping for some input/feedback tailored to my particular situation, if possible.

I am strongly considering moving to the Philadelphia area in early 2014, and was wondering if any of you that are in the know could help me out with answering some questions. Feel free to reply to me via PM so the thread doesn't get too clogged. Below are some topics and/or questions to help clarify my potential situation a bit.

Housing-related

What kind of pricing can I expect for a decent two-bedroom apartment (odds are I'll be living with a roommate) in Philly/Bensalem/other nearby areas? What are some of the nicer neighborhoods that are fairly close to Parx? My potential roommate actually works in Bensalem, so another incentive to live in/near there if possible, as is the lack of city wage tax. I'd like to save up at least a few month's rent in advance before the move, in case of emergency.

Transportation-related

As things stand, I don't intend to be bringing a vehicle with me, and will be relying on public transportation (although this could change since this move is several months away). Are there reliable yet inexpensive ways to get to and from Parx often? And to places within Philly in general?

Work-related

I should be able to transfer from my current job to one up in that area, so that should hopefully keep me employed while I try to focus free time on playing and building a proper poker bankroll.

Poker-related

Everything I've read points to Parx being the best casino in the area for poker (unless I were to head over to AC and play at Borgata, which I'd love to do every once in a while). The only other real option I see is Harrah's: any opinions for or against that particular place over Parx? My primary game would be 1/2 NLHE, with aspirations to eventually transition into 2/5 once properly rolled. Ideally I'd want to start with at least $3000 (separate from my life roll) and see how things go from there. If things go south early I can just play less until I can infuse some life money to rejuvenate my bankroll.

For those who are kind enough to reply, if you need anymore info to accurately answer any of the above, I'd be happy to PM you with more specific details. Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't consider myself a reg, but I do play a few times per week.

10 months ago, I would show up in the evenings and it was rolling the dice to see if the game would go.

Under these conditions, and only under these conditions, should a switch be considered.

EDIT: And big props to you and the others for getting the game going short. I wish Parx would do more to help games go (free time, food, something) for the guys who prop games and help them go.

Agreed. But it's probably never going to happen. Best bet is to move down to the blue chip game or graduate to the peach chip game

you should play more on the weekends when the recreational/casual players come out more

also, the economy is pretty bad so a lot of would-be players who you could win money from do not have the disposable income to come play often IMO

I'm sure his has been covered but it would be nice if PA's nicest card room didn't have a bathroom that rivals the worst bathrooms on the PA turnpike.

What about NFL Network Thursday night football?

Sunday daytimes are usually slow anyhow, and the evening games are all nationally televised.

Not having Thursday night football could hurt tho.

Lol that seems a bit extreme, particularly for a urinal run. But I agree, that bathroom can use a lot of improvement.

Anyone else notice on Bravo the sharp decline in the dailies just in the past week ? What could cause such a thing ? The fields are cut in half...

Tuesday:
8/27: 161
9/03: 81

Wednesday:
8/28: 76
9/04: 37

Thursday:
8/29: 95
9/05: 59

I'm headed out to play my favorite Sunday bounty tournament and I sure hope today's field isn't cut in half...

It would pretty much be a waste since any time the Eagles or Giants play you would be pretty much required to put them on the majority of the TV's. This weekend would be the notable exception since they play Sunday and Monday night.

I honestly can't think of any poker room with NFL Sunday ticket.

Every poker room I have ever played in had NFL ST, including Parx in previous years. Lots of poker players are sports gamblers or in fantasy football leagues. It was a reason I would go to Parx on Sunday afternoons in previous years, since I'm not a Philly native. I will confirm that room attendance was never that high on Sunday afternoons, though, so I'm guessing it was just a business decision.

Oh well, guess it's a good thing I bought Madden 25 Anniversary which came with a free year of internet Sunday Ticket.

The Sunday tournament will be cut in half for all of football season. Football season was dead the last 2 seasons...which is why I hear they didnt get the package as well.

Just wanted to add some hard data to the food discussion which I mentioned earlier as having declined in quality.

Here's a pic I took of the fruit bowl I received last night.

I'm not sure how visible it is in the photo, but here are my complaints:
* It's only about 2/3rds as full of fruit as I remember it used to be
* You can sorta see in the pic, the melon slices were all bruised and crushed, and looked like they had been sitting in water for hours
* only 3 pieces of pineapple, including a piece that was mostly the tough, center piece
* The tangerine slices were connected, mashed up, globby, and not at all sweet or ripe

This used to be one of the best things offered. This bowl was such a piece of crap that I threw out most of it.
