Room looks good and still plenty of money to be made. Was there for about 8 hours today.some idiot I played with for like 2 hours caught a rush and turned 140 into 1900,he plays good but there were some knuckleheads in ths game. I won 400 if I caught l anything at all would have been. It's nice to play in a legit room 10 minutes from home....

Made my first trip to Parx in a while. Simply been too busy to get over there.

Sadly, the O/E8 game wasn't going. And the interest list was small and going nowhere.

Other than that, it was a nice trip. I even ended up ahead after a very up and down evening.

The duck and rice bowl was really yummy. Well worth the money.

I did get to see Ari, always a pleasure. The floor and dealers were all really good, and I got the chance to say hi to some friends from AC.

I gotta get back there more often.

how about the fact that they CHARGE for alcohol? or how about the lack of decent restaurants? no parking garage, no valet, players lighting up cigs 10' from your table, and 50% of the comps that AC casinos give you. and the list goes on, but charging for alcohol and not serving past 2am makes the games considerably worse than The Borgata on any given night. yet we'll all continue to go to parx because of how close it is to home.

There's a reason why PARX is closer to more people than AC. AC is a **** - hole.

Also, AC doesn't have any decent restaurants. You want to play poker or eat nice food? If you want good food, go down to the city. Philadelphia has a gazillion more good to great places to eat than AC. If you are a big fat slob, just google "All you can eat 24 hr buffets".

AC has some decent food at borgata/pier/taj what are you talking about?

I also find it amusing that people in LV complain about Bellagio and the Venetian. They are, arguably, the two best gaming resorts - anywhere. Yet, some folks find faults with them.

Locally, folks have complaints about the Borgata. Which is (again, arguably) the best gaming resort on the east coast.

And, here with Parx, some players have taken pissing & moaning to a new level.

Any comparison between Parx and <insert resort casino here> is pointless, from an amenity and feature perspective. It's like comparing the Four Seasons Hotel with a local Marriot. With the former, you are enjoying a destination property; the latter is a basic, functional, purpose property.

Borgata and Bellagio and Venetian = destination resort.
Parx = local casino and poker room.

If you want a destination resort... go to one.
If you want to play poker... Parx rivals all of them, in many ways.... FOR POKER!!!

Keep some perspective, please.

I think a geography lesson is in order. Parx is 20 miles from Center City Philadelphia where all the upscale restaurants are. Your choice of nearby restaurants outside of Parx are diners, Applebee's, Outback and Hooters.

^^ do not understand why a geography lesson is in order

Because the guy talking about restaurant options made it sound like Parx was so close to Center City. If you want to compare restaurant options then you should be talking about restaurants in Bensalem, not somewhere 20 miles south.

And if you think this all of Bensalem's dining choices, you are wrong. All you listed are closest and most visible chain restaurants on Street Rd.

I'm sure some very good choices can be found within a half-hour's drive if you search the web. I heard some good things about a Japanese restaurant on Galloway Rd. in Bensalem. And there are some very good upscale restaurants in Newtown and New Hope, about 20 and 30 minutes away up I-95.

I don't even care about food options. My point was that it's invalid to say, "The food options suck in Atlantic City but are great in Philadelphia" as proof that people will choose to go to Parx over an Atlantic City casino. Parx is not in Center City. Why is this so hard to understand?

I agree there are some good restaurants with in 20-30 min of PARX. but that's just the problem. Forget about taking a cab, you are better off driving yourself, and getting around that area can make grown men cry the traffic can be so bad!

It is was it is- can be a really nice day- dine someplace downtown or in Newtown/Yardley/ Langhorne or whatever. Then swing by parx play for 3 hours and go home. But- you are not going to be drinking much, and you aren't going to be staying up all night going crazy. It's just a different crew then AC, it's a local cardroom. Monday night, I can see people wanting to play cards there. Friday night, I can see people wanting more of the AC experience.

Can't really compare. the amenities-

But if we want to compare the actually rooms- I think Borgata and parx are a close comparison. Borgata I still think takes the prize. But watch out- Parx is on the rise!

Wow the first part is seriously laughable. The traffic is not that bad. Have you even lived in NYC or LA? Give me a break and stop being such life nits.

I do agree with the second part though. Parx Poker at this point in time is still mostly just a local cardroom. People are going to play poker, maybe gamble a little but not the same at AC. But let's remember that this room just opened and the casino itself is still in its infancy.

I used to work around that area- Street road was one of the ones that I used to sit on forever. all be it-in rush hour. 95 can be a mess, and if you are trying to go from Parx into the city, or vice versa, it can make you crazy. All depends on 95- probably best way- I've breezed down with no traffic and I've been stuck for ever. Flip the coin.
If you elect to take Rt. 1 Roosevelt bvld is one of the worst roads I've ever been on, and traffic can be rough.

I'll I'm saying is that traffic is a factor in my decision to go from NJ to Parx. if you are 10 min away- no biggie at all- but NJ to PA and back can be a real adventure.

Some people are talking about how easy it is to leave Parx and drive to Philly, or New Hope or where ever to get a good meal- they better be prepared that they may be sitting still for long periods of time. Traffic is an issue in that plan, and a Cab would be huge $$$.

NYC is how many times bigger then Philly? I expect traffic when you are dealing with an Island and 8,300,000 or so people in NYC.

Philly is roughly 1,600,000 people and I find it more aggravating to drive around it's sprawl then NYC any day. I'm dead serious. The roads are wacked. Just my 2 cents.

Yah I don't know why people are getting so defensive. Even though the options are better down there I don't know anyone who lives in the northeast or any 'burb who goes to the city specifically to eat, if it's not just part of a night out. It is too much of a pain; who cares what NY & LA are like. Nobody in Iowa cares what Philly is like. Besides NY also has more than two subways and they run past midnight.

I swung by last night to check out Parx for the first time. I was impressed with both casinos (but I am not a slot player). The poker room was HUGE and the smoke was not an issue as I had heard from some and I am somewhat sensitive to it. The main casino was more than half empty and it was borderline smoky.

I didn't get to play poker, since the 4-8 LHE game we planned on playing broke up right before we arrived and it was going on 1am, but it was nice to see what I had been reading about. Definitely looks like it has great potential and I will be going back soon. This thread has been helpful for a newbie.

This is spot on...well said

People will always complain about the new "hip/popular" trends/places/restaurants...and in this case casinos/card rooms.

If you like The Taj or Harrah's Chester, go there. I like The Borgata and PARX

Potholes are true..no joke! Parking wasn't nearly as far or as bad a walk as people made it out to be. Didn't smell piss. Bathrooms looked fine.

What you hear just depends on who you listen to. ITT you'll find loud-spoken PARX bashers and also many PARX supporters. You'll should always take both the strongest negative and positive comments with a grain of salt and read between the lines to see what's really going on.

But to address the issues you mention, I've not noticed any piss-like odors, though the downstairs table games area and poker tables near the upstairs bar area can be smokey. I feel like that the player pool is fairly well mixed in terms of skill level, but because it's not a resort-type facility, you won't find all that many "tourist" players. Yes, there are some ridiculous potholes, but they're mostly avoidable. Besides, it's the middle of winter so not like they can do much about them anyways. Bathroom situation has improved compared to initial complaints.

I'm getting a little tired of the noodle bar at Parx. Anyone has some good recommendation for food outside of Parx (within 10 minute drive)? i.e. diner, chinese, japanese, italian. I always see a lot of restaurants on street road but don't know which one to try.
