This is a pretty rare occurrence and a first in my limited experience. I commend the mgmt for making this decision especially given the worse than predicted conditions.

However, in the age of advanced technology that we live in where most people get email directly to their phone, I just wish Parx would have also taken the initiative to let their customers know about this as soon as possible.

Prior to heading to Parx yesterday at approx 1pm, I checked the live game report and saw there were 4 x 1/2NL games going and 1 other game that was either 2/5NL or 2/4Limit. Of course this looked odd to me, but given the weather, it was understandable. Wouldn't you think that Parx would make an effort to notify their customer base of this extremely rare occurrence either via email or AT LEAST by putting some type of notification on the live game report page?

Getting an email out to players with more than X# of hours per month notifying them that the room would be closed would be a great idea, but given the fact that Parx cant figure out how to merge the poker room's database with the comp system such that you don't have to jump through hoops (exaggeration) to get a duck rice bowl and the noodle bar, I'm not really expecting an email to my blackberry with urgent snow closing notifications.

Next time, please post something to the Live Game Report page. Thanks.

All anyone had to do was check this thread before heading to Parx yesterday. Is that so hard?

Really? As stated in my previous post, I left my house at about 1pm. The first post stating that parx would be closing at 330 was posted around 1:45. So that doesn't work all that well. More importantly, do you really think customers should be going to 3rd party website (this one) to see if the business is open? Again, this is a once a year circumstance and I understand its a rarity, but how difficult is it to put up some notification on the live game report page? Additionally, I would think that more people frequent the live game report page rather than the 2+2 Parx Poker Room thread when looking for *RealTime* status.

I guess calling ahead to see if they are open, or will remain open is beyond reasonable.

And - JFC!!!! On a metagame perspective... it's.. just... poker!!!

It's not like the closed a hospital and people are being denied medical attention.

there was over a foot of snow in certain areas (where I am in Warrington there was close to a foot). Not sure what it was like in the Parx area but I'm sure they got at least 7-8 inches if not more. Do you expect them to keep a poker room open for like 5 people who have pickup trucks to come play? It costs them a ton of money to keep it running I'm sure. The reason you never heard of a poker room closing is because usually it's attached to a hotel / casino and there are already people there.

Whoever mentioned they should get an email list is a great idea...they should definitely develop a mailing list for such a situation and it can take someone 2 minutes to draft up an email as well as update the live update with this info.

Anyway, there's always online poker as backup!!!

it was well over 12 inches in south philly. Parx did the right thing in closing. their employees have to travel a long way.

I'm glad they closed too because I gave Chester another shot and was very impressed; with tournaments coming soon I don't see any reason to go back to Parx. My original home casino was Foxwoods and I can tell you they would never close because of snow.

Did you request a table change after you thought you were being cheated?

Read the post. One of the shady aspects was that the cheaters stood up and left before playing another hand.

i read it. you were cheated. and they knew they were caught. i don't mind friends at the same table. makes it more fun for them. don't even care if they slow play each other when they're heads up. but colluding against other players (and building pots is obviously the easiest method) is disgusting. management should have done something. they need to protect players. its why we come to to casinos and pay a rake instead of shady underground games.

I smell a rat too - but there isn't enough evidence for the floor to do anything about it...I wonder if they can take their phones and read the txts...too late for that now though.

anyway, I would make a point if I saw either one of them at my table to politely let everyone else know from now until the end of time.

No.

I don't think anywhere in PA is allowed to do straddles.

I heard from one of PARX's dealers (in December and outside of the casino) that PARX is starting tournaments at the end of January.

It is now the end of January and I haven't heard anything else.

Yes, there are two types of straddles at Parx

1) When ur mom is playing

2) "Pississippi" Straddles. When you have the small blind, sit out and go take a piss. Then when you return for the next hand you post your $1 and you have the button.

Ari,

You were going to look into this madness and perhaps entertain the brilliant idea of "buying the button"... update?

If you don't want BTB (did I mention that's a brilliant idea?) - the small blind thing needs 86-ing!

Sorry Steve,
