Giving the dealer a break from having to push a 2ft by 2ft 10 pound mountain of chips (spreading across 2 players) regularly would be nice for them as well imo. Not to mention saving 5-15 seconds of wasted time negotiating the pay off (for all the "keep the cards in the air" folks).Split pots...wow.
Please disregard this suggestion. The 4chip/8chip structure is what makes this game. What are you recommending instead...red and white? Oooof. IMO 3chip/6chip in general is fine (although not as good), but 2chip/4chip (or less) is lameeeee.

I put my name on the lists for 1-2, 2-5, 4-8 limit, 8-16 limit and 15-30. I was seated at 8-16 about 11:20 (first I was called for - 15 was one table and miles long, no limit my name didn't move on either - I heard about 12:15 am for 1-2, never for 2-5). I ended up playing 8-16 all night which is fine anyway, because I prefer limit.

Observations:

- 8-16 had great action; love the clean and new $2 chips, though some dealers struggled more than others (most dealers were decent). Great action and huge pots most of the night. Friendly players. The $5 time charge is reasonable for the amount of action.
- I like the system they use for filling seats, and I like that they come over to where you're seated to see if you want another game when its called (15-30 for example), I like the volume on the PA (you can hear it, but not blaring).
-Good temperature, seats are comfortable. The tables are on the small side, but not terrible. Can be a squeeze though, but it's ok.
-Chip runners are reasonably fast; I think cash ($100 bills) should play while you wait, but maybe against PA rules.
-I didn't smell a whiff of smoke - non-issue for me. The parking lot was well-lit and fine; long walk, but no sketchy people hanging out. I'm used to the walk from my years of going to the racetrack when I lived nearby.
-Kind of sedated atmosphere in the room, but it's nice - good place to play cards. I think table games in the facility will bring some energy. This place will be great when it expands. I wish I lived nearby - I'd play everday or close to it.

At DE Park there is a direct line to the poker room and you can call and get your name on the list as long as you show up within an hour. Do they do that at Parx, and, if so, does anyone have the number?

Thanks

IDK. Lets say there's a 10 way limp preflop. With all blues there's 80 chips in pot as opposed to 40 using red/white at 8/16.Wot? Theres still 3 more betting rounds to see. As I stated , thats a bit ridiculous considering the semi tight space we have , ten players on what seems to be a little less felt then other casinos. I mean if you need to feed your ego w/ a mountain of $2 chips in front of you, that's great, but they are just $2 chips. Personally, I like hiding behind reds/greens/ blacks.

I think the $2 chips are great for 4/8,2/4, and a 2-10 stud that was suggested. Like I said, if you spread those games, you have a nice legit use for the little blue heros imo. And w/ as many as the casino probably manufactured, those games would be a perfect spot for em' and everyone would be happy.

By "makes the game", do you mean having an unnecessary amount of chips in play makes it? I don't understand.I'm not busting nuts or anything , but adding another chip denomination to a game that runs fine w/ the normal red/white combo is a little odd (no offense).Using only blues in 5 to 10 different low games would also alleviate the dirty stack probs a bit I would think. Provided they were only used in 2/4,4/8,2-10 stud games and taken out of play in the others that do not really need them.

I know , I know..they aren't going to spread 2/4. But why not spread it when we expand? Let the older people, noobs, and casual players have there fun. It's not like the people complaining about it play there anyway. To think limiting the room to 4/8 minimum will force regular 2/4 players to play there is wishfull thinking. Your in essence trying to force them to try and play higher then they are comfortable.

The way I see it, your not adding fish to 4/8 , your losing 5 to 10 tables of rake. The majority of casual players or the player on a fixed income will not risk 2x more than they're used to .They'll just make the drive to AC where the games are spread. No different from what they've been doing for years. The difference will be the negative opinions about our room not spreading small games. They'll be more than happy to share this w/ their friends that play that level.

Please don't disregard my suggestion. You don't have to do it.Just don't disragard it please. I've been disregarded in life plenty.

The reason I suggest 2-10 7CS (besides the $2 chips), is that 4/8 7CS might not catch on at Parx. My thinking is that the ol' timer refugees from AC (who'll be the core stud players) won't want to play a limit so 'foreign' to them AND have to put up a $1 ante each hand. Stud is hard enough to get spread nowadays, and without the rocks/regs, we're probably fighting an uphill battle.

I've played 2-10 in a few rooms years ago, and it's a good limit.
It's MUCH better than 1-5, and won't intimidate the old rocks.
Maybe Ari would consider spreading it instead of 4/8-$1 ante 7CS ?

Playing 8-16 with anything other than $2 chips is a bad idea.

The $2 chip was made for 6-12 (3chip/6chip) and 8-16 (4chip/8chip). It's OK in 4-8, although I like $1's for that game.

But, playing 8-16 with red & white would be just absolutely painful.

No No No, don't get the wrong idea. I think 2 to 10 stud is an awesome idea (especially for the action junkies). I'm just saying this would be a good game for the blues. I think a 2-10 stud game would not only be cool , but unique to this area.In turn, creating allot of interest because of that fact.

Oh.I don't play that game but I would think if people bought in properly (5 stacks red, and say 2/3 stacks white minimum),it wouldn't be a problem.

Played PARX the last 3 days. O8 on Wed, NLHE on Thanksgiving, and PLO tonight.

good = Solid dealers, good action, hot waitresses.

bad = beer sucked, was warm. Not enough omaha tables, and long lists for all games, but I suppose that's the price of success.

Uh, maybe I'm being dumb here but as I understand it, in a 10 way limped pot preflop, whether you are playing with blues or the red/white combo, you still have 40 chips in the pot and not 80. Why would there be 80 chips in the pot if it was 10 way limped preflop?

In either game, the $8 bet is still 4 chips, and the only difference is that the big bet goes from 8 chips to 4 chips in the red/white game (IF everyone has the right number of reds and whites).

I decided to try parx again last night, but i don't think i'll be going back, for the same reasons i won't go to Foxwoods--the cigarette smoke is INTOLERABLE. Ari, please do the right thing and make the room smoke free. If smokers want to slowly kill themselves, so be it, but we nonsmokers should not have to breathe in their carcinogens all night. it's a shame too, as i was truly looking forward to parx's poker room, but if i have to breathe foul-smelling air and have my eyes burn, it's not worth it.

and please, folks...you cannot tell me that the smoke is not an issue, because when i came home from a five hour session, my wife could smell the smoke on my clothes and she would not even let me hold my newborn baby. the so-called "ventilation" system above the bar is akin to putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound.

I'm a 2/5 NL player now but in the years when I played limit I remember that playing 20/40 often seemed to be a better game than 10/20 because playing 4 chip/8 chip vs 2 chip/4 chip got the adrenaline flowing more quickly both for the sheer visceral pleasure of chasing after mountainous pots and the physical pleasure of betting by laying down two stacks of four and the feel of battle when the raises and reraises beome little battle walls of four chip stacks. Sure after years of experience this aspect begins to become less adrenaline inducing but it seemed on average to be pretty real to me. I think this is also why the 7.50/15 pink chip game at the Trop in the late 90s and early 00s was much more wild than either the 5/10 or the 10/20 there - more chips created more adrenaline.

Thats ashame man. Im sorry to hear that. You must be extra sensitive to smoke. I hope for your sake that the room becomes non smoking. But the consensus here is that it is a non issue. Im a non smoker and have been there twice and havent noticed a thing. I doubt they are gonna change it anytime soon. Too bad buddy. At least you still have the Borgata.

Ari, any chance of ever taking this a step further and showing current wait lists with names?

You guys would be the ONLY one doing that and it would be great to have.

Call in, go eat dinner, ignore your gf by continually refreshing the page to see where you are on the list.

Then when you are a few people away, DATE ends and you go play cards!
