So do most AC casinos these days. At least, it seems that way.
Here's my trip report.
I arrived early, about 9:20 or so and was told by a security person that nobody could go upstairs until 10:00 when the room opens. I went over to the main building and got a really good breakfast sandwich from Foodies.
It became apparent, when I returned a bit later, that the guard was either misinformed or something - people were heading up the escalator, and I joined them. Arrived in the room itself about 9:45, and got on 3 different lists.
For those who haven't been there yet: There is a poker card (seperate from the regular Parx players cards) that one needs to get before playing. Breeze easy to do, no problem at all, but a different line from the one for signing up.
I was a little surprised not to see more dealers and players that I already knew. A couple of dealers from AC, and a couple of floor people that I recognized. That was it. Overall, the dealers were very good - with the only rust showing when they dealt stud and omaha. I'm sure that this will improve as they get more experienced in these games.
I also saw a certain AC poker room manager playing there.
Checking out the competition, I'm sure.
Actually, he just really likes to play poker and can't play in NJ.
A little more annoying to me, was how slow the cashiers were in counting out money. Especially the $2 chips. I'm not sure that they know how to count in 2s yet.
I'm sure that this will improve with time as well.
The room itself is beautiful, with lots of space between the tables. Very comfy chairs that are height adjustable.
As already noted, lots and lots of TVs.
Another really nice feature is that the waiting lists/interest lists are on several screens and can be easily seen throughout the room! I really appreciate this.
I did get to meet one 2+2 poster, who was kind enough to introduce himself. More were in the room, I've no doubt.
The chips are nice, new, sharp edged, clean. So are the cards.
By 3:00, there were only 2 or 3 empty tables (out of 24 currently in use). There was a 4/8 stud game going on, and a 4/8 O8 game with a half kill. That was a fun game to play in! There were, if I recall correctly, 5 2/5 NLHE games and 4 4/8 LHE games. The rest was all 1/2NLHE
Interest lists were there for several other games - and the 8/16 and 15/30 LHE games were called, but didn't go as of 3:45 when I left.
Yup - they were giving away free hats! And I noticed a couple of players trying to talk the floor into giving them as many as they could get.....
The chip carts look, to me at least, like hot dog carts. They'ld do a fortune in business if they were....
Cards were in the air at about 10:15 am!
Ari made the announcement for dealers to "shuffle up and deal" - and the games were on. I was sitting in a 2/5 game, in the cut off seat. Under the gun was a gentleman who made it $10 in the dark. 2 people called in front of me, and I looked down at 10s9s. Somehow, I'm pretty sure that I'm supposed to raise here - but since this was the first hand, and I didn't have any idea how anyone played, I just called. So did the blinds. 6 of us to the flop. 984 rainbow. Blinds checked, UTG bet out $20, one caller, one fold - it's on me. $20? Gotta be weak. I put in a nice raise and took the pot down!
I can now claim, for all time, to have won the first hand of 2/5 NLHE played at Parx!
Ok, it's a small claim to fame - but a guy doesn't get too many chances, does he.
I ended up the day a small winner (if I hadn't tried the 4/8 stud game, I'ld have been a bigger winner. Oh, well, can't win 'em all.)
The floor did a really good job of keeping order. Sure, there were a few opening day jitters and whatnot - but they are to be expected. Overall, I'ld say that everyone who was waiting in hope that Parx will be an excellent poker facility will not be disappointed. They are doing a great job, even on the first day - and things can only get better from here.
I know that I'll be back a lot, with Parx being a regular place to play poker for me.
