Now that ammendment 3 passed in Florida, will this cause the closing of the poker room of the kennel club?

Text from Amendment 13:

...The failure to conduct greyhound racing or wagering on greyhound racing after December 31, 2018, does not constitute grounds to revoke or deny renewal of other related gaming licenses held by a person who is a licensed greyhound permitholder on January 1, 2018, and does not affect the eligibility of such permitholder, or such permitholder’s facility, to conduct other pari-mutuel activities authorized by general
law....

With or without the passage of this amendment the poker room is/was in danger....this law passing is a win for the track owners as live dog racing is a huge financial burden on these businesses and only in place due to the states requirement to conduct simulcast and poker room activities. The dog track owners have wanted the state to ban greyhound racing for many years instead it has been a requirement to operate their lucrative poker rooms.

The risks to the poker room was always on both sides of the ball. Sell to a developer (or develop themselves) due to the losses derived from live racing limiting the profitability of the business. Sell to a developer (or developing themselves) due to now having so much land sitting there collecting dust.

"Amendment 13 would "decouple" racing from other forms of gambling, allowing the racetracks to keep their card rooms without the presence of greyhounds; (PBKC owner Joe) Rooney says his track would reconfigure its footprint, sell most of its 19 acres to developers and reduce its current staff of 600 to about 100."

The Palm Beach Kennel Club, is, until racing is completed, the number one dog track in the US. It was more than profitable. We did not want to lose that aspect of our business at any time. It is true that some tracks were in support of the amendment, due to the fact that there were not profitable.

As far as poker goes at the Palm Beach Kennel Club? Stay tuned. We have some exciting announcements coming in the very near future.

Take care,

Noah

Thanks for the info. Would have been good to have it before the vote though, for all the dog tracks, to make an informed decision. Too late now.

Thank you and yes, I'm sure PBKC was one of the few profitable dog racing programs remaining as one of the top-2 handles in the industry along with the Tampa/Derby Lane meet. I was referring to the industry as a whole.

Noah-

How about now lobbying for licensing and regulation of online poker, operated by the existing licensed cardrooms? As poker is a pari-mutuel activity under Florida law, a bill to authorize this will not require a voter referendum. It also doesn't violate the Seminole compact. Reminder: I have a 36-page legislative bill ready to go.

Anyone know what the reconstruction plans, remodeling plans or relocation plans the Kennel Club poker room when they eliminate dog racing?

I'll be here next month and am hoping to see a dog race before they go away. Whats the race schedule? I see that races start at either 1 pm or 7 pm, but can't tell when the last race in a block would be. Also, is the track close to the poker room (as in would it be easy to take an orbit off to watch a race, or would it take too long?)

Races start at 1PM most days and I believe they end around 6-7PM. The track is adjacent to the poker room. You can see the track from inside the poker room. There are large glass windows, but a lot of the view is blocked so yo'ull want to walk outside if you actually want to watch the whole race.

The final race in the afternoon would be around 4:30pm. On days they run a doubleheader the final race at night would be around 11:30pm. You can see the track through the windows of the poker room at ground level. It is a 30 yard walk to the grandstand area you can either watch it from upstairs or walk outside to watch live.

Not anymore (hardly ever) - it moved to a private game offsite.

Better room, better table, better service, better food, better security better parking.

The Kennel Club would not offer the players "better" anything that is listed above - they could offer" better" - they just refuse to offer "better"...

The games run locally - its mostly the old players from the 5-10-20 PLO 8OB - now it is played as 5-10 PLO (the hi low split game is not selected too often) and it has expanded to include NLH, and NL 7 card stud, NL Omaha (currently, the most frequently selected game with bomb pots as well), and short deck (the older crowd calls it Six Plus ), - if you know any of the players - just DM them directly to get the info...

Sometime at the Kennel club - the 2-5 PLO 8OB runs, but very infrequently...

good luck

Made a leap of faith and Returned to the Kennel Club poker room on Saturday. Had a high stakes player tell me he will be given reduced seat rake to try and get a high stakes going. So, in kind, I said I would join him to get the reduced rake.

Luckily, when I arrived, the game had just started. The game was in the empty side of the room - at least in the morning - it was empty. But the room quickly filled up with straight 2 tables because of the high hand rewards.

Said hello to everyone - checked in - made sure reduced rake was in play, then sat down.

I guess we all ended up paying too much rake, because the A/C in the entire poker room was under performing. We heard it have been experiencing problems earlier in the week. Ya - great customer service Kennel Club.

On top of that, the table seating computer program was not working, so players could not see what other tables games and stakes were running.

It is difficult to play a high buy-in cash game in south Florida without A/C while indoors. How can a place operate like this. I hope they will respond to this post and explain. This is south Florida and A/C repair companies are open 24/7.

Customer Service - Customer Service - Customer Service - it is a simple thing to understand. They have very friendly dealers, and hosts at the podium, friendly cashiers, so the management level could improve in this aspect.

They (management) have all the time in the world to improve their customer service, so it must be a choice, a decision not to improve. In this age of customer feedback, where reviews are paramount to business, how can they make a choice, a concerted effort not to improve customer service.

They wonder why they cannot run the big game, or mid-level stakes, well this is a major reason. I just realized - maybe they don't realize how poor of a job they are doing, and/or maybe they don't care. That might be the issue.

I know offsite card rooms care about customer service, and thats where players are going.

Well - I gave it a try - went back to the Kennel Club, made a Trip Report, I wanted to talk it up, wanted to say how enjoyable it was, wanted to say how great it was, but I just experienced the Kennel Club - in all its glory, memories returned of days gone by, when the customer was King, and I miss those days.

After reading you say how friendly the staff is my takeaway from your TR is that you do not understand the meaning of “customer service.” Do you think it was possible that an older HVAC unit needed a part that a 24/7 HVAC company didn’t have in stock and had to order? Can you confirm that management did not have someone out to diagnose the problem in a timely manner?

Every Customer and business knows what "Customer Service" is. But i like your thought process that a customer cannot know the meaning of customer service is, +1 for that.

I spoke directly to the floor person in front of another floor person, and a dealer - who all said the - "the A/C has been having problems for a couple of days and they can only call one company to fix it, and that company is slow to respond." They even said the name of the A/C company, but I dont remember it. I can call <some people> and ask for the name if you are interested.

don't know if you have visited this establishment before - but this issue happens a few times a month. Never have i experienced this problem at the Hard Rock, the Isle, or any other card room, from New Jersey to California- but heck - that just must be "my good luck"

There you have it.

I’m only saying that based on your TR it didn’t seem like the issue was customer service at all or at least not any proof of any poor customer service.

You didn’t include this in your initial post. It sounds like the issue is ownership/protocol since a management team who is only authorized to work with one specific company isn’t acting in a way that would indicate that they don’t care about the customer especially when coupled with how friendly and non-confrontational they are to their customer (with that one floorperson exception but he is special lol). Maybe this is semantics but there is a vast difference between ownership and management. It sounds like more of an ownership/operational issue but even still I would expect HVAC companies in South Florida to have a heavy workload this time of year.

Yes frequently and I’ve experienced several “bad HVAC days” which are usually corrected within 2-3 days at the most which to me is reasonable for an older building and likely older unit which obviously won’t be replaced with the upcoming demolition of the building.

This place is a dump compared to the Isle or the Hard Rock. Anyone who plays there knows that but the action is great so they keep going back. As long as people pack the place, they can do whatever they want to do including giving zero comps, charging for water..ect.
