I'm heading down to Delray Tuesday with a friend. Any recommended bars in the area?

Any places that have cornhole (google the game if you're not familiar) or beer pong are a bonus.

The Irishmen in Boca had cornhole last time I was there. Just south of Delray.

I have been playing 1/2 at the PBKC for the past few weeks or so, here is my review on the place:

The Good

1) The dealers are great- These dealers are very nice and make the fish feel at home. I definitely prefer these dealers over the ones from the Isle or the Hard Rock

2) Management is somewhat accommodating- A few days ago, I came to some of the managers to complain about some of the ridiculous conditions (paying for bottled water, button blind, preflop rake, etc), and they were very polite and were willing to give me a good enough reason to not drive to the Isle (for now, at least).

3) Plenty of action- Anytime I want a 1/2 game, there are plenty for me to choose from. The PBKC seems to draw a more "uneducated" crowd, which leads to very poor decisions made at the table, which leads to profits. Again, it's easy to crush any 1/2 game so I don't know if this is that big of a plus.

4) Decent tournament room- Played in my first tournament on Friday, I had never been upstairs, and was pleasantly surprised on how great it was up there. I was not too happy with the structure though, however, I will discuss this later in this post.

The Bad

1) Preflop rake - Takes roughly $20 a session out of my bottom line (10 BB for a 1/2 player), which is more than the gas it would cost to drive to the Isle, a place that doesn't rake preflop. Especially considering the WSOP comes here for a circuit event, you would think they would be like all the other top card rooms around the country and not rake preflop.

2) $2 jackpot pull - I didn't notice this until a couple days ago, but it tilts me to see them pulling an extra dollar out of every pot. Obviously, the fish don't care about this, but over the few years that I have played live poker (I've played most of my poker online) I have contributed probably $3,000 towards jackpot drops, an amount I would rather have in my pocket. Considering that before yesterday (hit the $200 Quad Aces HH) I have not seen a dime of this jackpot money, I really don't like the fact that you are now pulling twice as much. To make matters worse, any jackpot payment over 10k will notify the IRS, which means that the jackpot will be taxed. Unfortunately, the Isle and the HR now both pull $2 jackpots, so this is not a disadvantage compared to the other rooms.

3) Bottled water not free- This blows my mind... This must be the only card room that I have ever played at where the bottled water is not free. I remember the first time I asked the waitress for bottled water. She came back with the water and asked for money, I almost fell out of my chair in shock. We are in your room paying exorbitant amounts of rake, and you can't even provide free bottled water? As a matter of principle, I make sure my sessions aren't more than four hours long (without a drink) because I refuse to pay money for bottled water in a card room.

4) Bad tournament structure - I will be honest that I have only played in the low limit rebuy tournaments, I have looked at the structures for even the higher buyin tournaments. In the rebuy, I went from one level right before the 2nd break having a 20BB stack to just under 10BB in just one level increase. Blinds cannot double near the bubble. I've played in hard rock tournaments, and I will say I liked their tournament structure much better, other than the fact that the final table was always a shovefest.

5) Tables are dirty, chairs suck- This is where the PBKC is at a huge disadvantage compared to the Isle or the HR. Fortunately for them, I don't care too much about how nice things look, as long as I have fish as my opponent.

I've noticed some people have complained about the dealer blind at 1/2, and I used to hate it as well, but it was sort of grown on me. It forces me to play the button, which usually leads me to raise and since I will have position for any hand vs fish usually means I win. The biggest problem is the preflop rake. Stealing that extra $2 goes straight to the house, and we still have to pay $5 in blinds in every orbit. Fish don't really care about this because they limp in every hand anyways.

Conclusion: If I had to rate the PBKC on a scale of 1 to 10 in regards to only poker rooms in Florida, I would have to give it a 5. It's a disappointing 5 though, since, this location as sooooo much potential to be one of the top two card rooms in Florida (potential level an 8), but they just care about raking as much as possible and minimizing expenses. Luckily for them, 90% of the people who play there have less than half a brain so they will keep showing up to play, not realizing that they are literally being robbed by the room itself. The proportion of players at PBKC that actually know what 2p2 is is probably under .1%, so even if we dislike the preflop rake and complain everyday for the rest of our lives, it will never change.

Will I keep showing up? For now, yes, but the thought that I'm being robbed $20 a session makes the trip to the Isle very intriguing....

I agree with this post and just want to reiterate the cleanliness of the felts/chips. I literally have been bed ridden the past few days and had to go to the ER for 2.5 hours the other day because of how sick I got playing there. I'm finally well enough to go back and play today but its a bit ridiculous. I don't even have a weak immune system, in fact I rarely ever get sick. I also am very careful not to touch my face/mouth and use the hand sanitizer about a million times while I'm there. PLEASE step up the felt changing process, some of them are so bad the cards literally stick to the table when you try and slide them in front of you to look at.

Yeah, to play 2/5, you are supposed to have a 10k bankroll.. Care to explain how I can have $5,000 more in cash to fall from the sky? I have most of my roll still on full tilt.

One of the golden rules in poker, regardless of how soft a game is, you must always adhere to using proper bankroll management.

With that logic, why stop at 2/5? I've watched the 5/10 game, I am pretty sure I am a decent winner there as well. Same reason I can't play 5/10, I do not have the bankroll for it.

I've made 2.3k in the last 2 weeks at 1/2, so maybe I'll be able to move up in a couple months or so

20bi online yes, for the softest games on the planet I'd take my chances. Not to mention, do you really think nosebleed players strictly adhered to a 20bi rule every time they wanted to move up? You are complaining about an extra $2 per orbit, I gave you a solution of a much higher winrate by paying $7 per orbit vs $5.

Noah,
I love the PBKC. I have faith that your team does its best and it cares.

That being said, I would like to request that PBKC stop making tourney tickets prizes for the high hands. I would rather win cash and if I decide to get into a tourney, then it becomes my choice (which I can balance with my availability).

Deep down I would rather you didn't collect an extra $2 for the jackpots, but I know that is not going away. So just give out cash...that what is taken from us, and not stuff we have to sell for less than face value.

Please let me know if this is the right forum for this, sorry if this is something I should have sent via other channels.

Thanks for considering this,
Gary

I completely agree with buccaneers. The practice of giving tournament tickets as JP prizes should be barred from Florida cardrooms. While I understand the business aspects of hitting your guarantees and bloating the tournaments with dead money, the very act, imo, is illegal:

FL State Legislature 849.086 (7) (d):
Quote:
(d) A cardroom operator may award giveaways, jackpots, and prizes to a player who holds certain combinations of cards specified by the cardroom operator.
It also goes on to clearly state that all jackpot money must be returned to the players, however, as you are raking the tournament entries, it is clearly not, thus illegal.

I encourage anyone who reads this to stand up and please tell the managers to stop giving the JP money away as tournament entries as it is not only wrong in a players eyes but also the state of Florida.

(1) The following requirements apply to all cardroom and dominoes tables participating in jackpots:
(a) The cardroom operator shall post the rules of the jackpots offered, including which specific hands constitute a winner, and all details regarding seeding the jackpot fund;
(b) Post the jackpot rake for each authorized game in the cardroom;
(c) Ensure that:
1. For jackpot proceeds, an additional drop box is installed on the left hand side of tables or another area of the table as specified in the cardroom’s system of internal controls;
2. The internal controls require that the dealer drop the jackpot rake into the jackpot drop box;
3. Jackpot drop boxes have a permanently affixed number that corresponds to the table to which the drop box is assigned;

10. All jackpot payouts are made in accordance with the internal controls; and
11. The internal controls will state whether a maximum jackpot threshold limit is established. The internal controls shall state if a threshold is selected, when the designated threshold is achieved, the series of cards comprising the hand winning the jackpot shall be changed to a series of cards that has a higher probability of occurring.

Besides that where is the sign that tells us how much money is available on a daily basis for the high hand JP. I know that they are telling us what is available in the bad beat. But now there should be another sign that says they confiscated x amount and will be paying x amount to high hands.

33 is right about tourney tickets....the room is paying their own rake by offering Tourney Tickets as JP prizes.

While I believe the whole tournament tickets for JP is wrong, and I am trying to report something to the dept of paimutual regulation to get it changed. All of this pales in comparison to the fact that the seminoles have no regulation whatsoever on the JP money they take and are free to take the whole thing if they wanted. At least the pari sites are required to return 100% of the jackpot money, despite their exploitation of the grey area surrounding payment.
