Ok so the opportunity to make a comfortable living playing poker in one of the world's fav vacation destinations is bad because you can't get drunk for free? Poker rooms comp? Seriously bra, these games are creepy easy. You sound like a major nit-in-the-making.

The players have the funds to play 1-2 or 2-5 all night long. But the Palm Beach Kennel Club does not spend any of there own money on cleaning the carpets, or replacing the rails and felts. The chairs are bad on the backs and need new cushions. They can not compete with other cleaner rooms in South Florida.

Must agree with a few of the opinions about the PBKC. The competition is outstanding. That is, donks with lots of cash to spare flood the room. The dealers and the floor are mostly competent.

However, once one goes beyond what surely matters most to the player's bottom line, there is little that is beyond average at the PBKC. There are no comps. At best, the food is average. Drinks are not free. The room is too small for the number of tables. Unless you're on one side of the room, craning one's neck is necessary to catch a game on the small televisions.

Ausales,

We are currently in the process of replacing the rails and the felts. It is a time consuming process. You will see the results shortly.

We clean the carpets regularly. We are on the third year of the 3 year carpet replacement plan. We have alot of traffic, thus the wear.

We do our best to provide a clean and safe environment to play cards.
I am sorry that we are not doing as well as you like, but we will always be looking to improve.

I am not a fan of excuses, but you can surely see the financial benefits of slot machines at the facilities to the south. Not only do slots significantly improve the bottom line of a property, they also provide additional incentive to maintain the casino feel.

We will try to do better.

Take care,

Noah

Zergum,

We do offer time rake in the pit.

We usually defer to what the players ask in regards to timed/raked.

I player bigger games professionally 10/20+

All of what I said is still true.... Other cities with smaller rakes and deeper games are much better places to grind small buyins

I played at the PBKC Poker Room not too long ago and was disgusted by the facility for mainly two reasons:

1) The felts are filthy. I played at a few different tables and more than once found myself in an area loaded with filth from crumbs to fingernails. I had to brush the **** away before I could sit down with my chips (again, more than once - this was not an isolated incident).

2) I felt feverish immediately upon entering the place and then felt fine immediately upon leaving. I've had this feeling before, and it's been when there is mold in a building. This makes me think you have a mold problem, possibly in your ac. My friend mentioned having the same feeling to me before I had expressed my own.

I'll give you a pass for now on the rails and felt. But, the chair down-stair are uncomfortable and need to be replaced. If you had slot, just like down south, you would surely separate the income from poker, off track betting, concession etc. You would put your money into the area that bring in the most revenue. At your place, it's the Poker Room. So start upgrading, outside of the pit area.

That's great news about the WSOP circuit event coming back next February Noah. You guys did a great job this year and I'm looking forward to another fun event.
BTW...I'm hoping that you'll reinstate the Tuesday satellites for the WSOP and the Palm Beach Classic. There's a few of us on the Treasure Coast who enjoy playing those, but don't like making that drive at night.

That means FREE Water!

It's pretty hilarious how they did free water during the series, then when all the out of towners that they were trying to impress were gone, they went back to charging us to high hell for it. They are certainly run by some of the stingiest higher ups possible who don't want to budge whatsoever on giving players ANYTHING, whether it be drinks, comps, clean tables and chairs, viewable TVs, etc. I've gone to the club less and less this year because it's just not a really welcoming place.

I spent a week in South Florida on a Poker Trip and played in 3 rooms. I drove an hour each way on two days to play at PBKC, with several dealers and regs thinking I was mad with half a dozen closer rooms to Plantation where I stayed. It was probably the least fancy room of the three rooms I played at (Hard Rock and The Isle were the others) but my equal favourite room. When playing 2/5 and a player asks what you mean when you casually say I was getting the right odds to call with five outs, you're a happy man - when you gloss over it and three others at the table try and get you to expand your answer, you're in heaven. I didn't notice dirty tables or chairs as I was counting my money. Small sample size but a lot of casual players with money when I was there so they're doing something right.

No one is claiming that you can't make good bank at the PBKC. Understand, though, the players don't step foot in that facility because they feel that they're taken care of (via comps, free/cheap drinks, plush facilities). They go because there is no other choice without driving 35 miles south.

Isn't that ideal? An ecosystem of fish that can't, and more importantly, don't want to escape. Every local I spoke to there despised the Isle and HR and seemed to love their little room. As before they're doing something right even if it's just keeping a lot of the predators out due to isolation.

So I guess you think the PBKC fish will leave if the players get free water, better chairs/felt/rails, better food, better tv views, and/or a comp system. Okay. Tell me, what has the PBKC to keep the fish in the tank... other than being the only game within 35 miles?

No, but they might if a ton of sharks start invading the game and lots of comps, free this and that might atract them. That's all. I wasn't saying there is no room for improvement, I was saying they (and you) might want to be careful about changing the dynamic too much, thats all.

Do all those things really mean that much to you?

If I play there often enough, then free water, free/cheaper alcohol, comps, cleaner/plusher surroundings would make a substantial difference. That being stated, f I can make 10 bb/hour at place a or 8 bb/hour at place z, then I will always choose place z even if place z is dumpy. For the casual player, however, the amenities are a huge attraction. Nasty felt/chips, uncomfortable chairs, average-at-best food, no comps, and overpriced drinks (for a casino or card room) absolutely dissuade casual players from frequenting the PBKC.

Understand that if I could change one thing and one thing only, it would be free alcohol... and I don't drink alcohol when I play. That should let you know where my perspective is in regards to the amenities. Because there are no slots or table games, though, I know that alcohol will never be free.

I think the distance is enough to keep fish around, how many of them are going to travel 35 miles to get free water and maybe better chairs or whatever it is that they may not even care about? If they cared that much about having free water I'm sure they would be more than happy to bring their own water bottle, and I'm pretty sure they are going to a poker room to get their gamboooool on without worrying too much about traveling an extra 35 miles to get a few perks that most rec players don't care about. I really do believe that the ameneities are directed more towards the everyday player rather than the local who comes out to take a shot every couple weeks.

I would like anyone to challenge our ratio of "recreational" vs "professional"
players here at PBKC. The action speaks for itself. If you want a comp, just ask myself or Josh. We would be happy to buy a meal for a 2 + 2 poster!!
We feel comps on a personal level go alot further than throwing a set amount onto a players card.

Take care,

Noah

This is the type of thinking that will drive new recreational players away.

Noah or Josh,

Why don't you promote more sit & go satellite tournaments for feature events like WSOP, Big Dog and Florida Million Main Event Tournaments? My suspicion is that you don't want to draw players away from the cash tables.
