Can't agree w/ this. Let's get extreme: $4 max rake game, say 4-8 limit. You've won the prior hand. Folded to you holding K-10o OTB. Blinds are not foldy. What do you do?

It depends on the table, but I would probably raise.
(Regardless if there was a kill on.)

Ok, I didn't follow the entire discussion so I'll point out that where I play the winner of 2 pots in a row has to post a kill (if the second pot is 10 SB's or greater) which is double the BB when they win the second pot. At 4-8 limit, then, if you raise OTB w/ that hand (having won the prior hand) you're looking at a potential $4 drop and $8 blind post. I don't think it's a good idea to raise the K-10o in that spot but if you do I won't argue w/ you.

Cliffs: I think that having to potentially post a kill is a significant factor in determining the play of your next hand.

I love the Orleans. Yeah the regs are all old and nitty, but they aren't that great. It's lower variance, because their ranges are more narrow, but it's definetly profitable. Also, I like that they have HORSE tournaments. The vig is pretty high though. Friday night NLHE tourny's there are pretty juicy too. Last time I was there it was like 5k for first on a $125 buyin.

I think either there would be not be enough money in the pot to qualify for a kill, i.e. the blinds fold. Or you would get enough action to make it worth your while. But maybe I am mistaken. If there is a $4 drop then there was at least $40 in the pot at most half was put in by you. So that is at least a $16 profit if you win. If your not ahead, then I doubt that you would have got the that far. You would have folded to a raise on the flop. And so lost $8. So you lost a button raise. But folded to you with the blinds to act and a hand in the top 50% its a no-brainer raise. Its very likely that you raise and they will fold, and there would be only a $2 drop.

BTW in the Orleans 6 years ago having finished 16-th out of 120 at the Wednesday night tournament and just out of the money. I sat down at a 4/8 Limit Hold 'em with a kill. I then won 6 kill pots in a row. Recovered my tournament buy-in and took a little profit. Was exhausted and left.

The only thing I like about it is the Friday NLHE night tourney. Its a nitville nursing home during the day

poor nogginthenog wants to know what a kill is, and the most common example was buried in the bottom of that long-winded (but informative) post:

In addition, some limit games are played with a kill or a half kill. In these games, there is some condition which if met, raises the stakes of the game - doubling them in the case of a kill game, or increasing them by 50% in the case of a half kill. In addition to the normal blinds posted for the game, the player who met the kill condition must post a blind equal to the new small bet size. This blind is instead of the small or big blind if the player would have been in position to have one of those. In some clubs the killer gets to act last after the blinds; but in others the killer acts in normal turn order.

In a high only game, the condition is typically that someone wins two pots in a row. In a high-low split game, the condition is usually that someone takes the whole pot, and that the pot is some minimum size.

For example: in a 10-20 Omaha-8 game with a half kill that I've played in, if someone scoops a pot with $100 in it, then they must post a $15 blind and the next hand the game is 15-30.

and for what its worth, i enjoy the orleans.

but thats probably because i enjoy riling up the old nits with all my "young kid raisin' all the time, before the flop even!" antics in O8.

and I'm 34 next month, so it makes me feel young again.

Half kill is triggered at Orleans O8 game on scoop 60, as I recall. And the kill acts last preflop unless it's raised before it gets to the kill.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone know how long the Friday PM tourney usually runs?

I have a 2AM flight out on a Saturday AM and think the Friday PM tourney might be my last stop before leaving.

if it goes late enough for you to miss your flight, you've probably cashed anyway, and can afford the $50 change fee or whatever.

Very true!! Of course, it would suck to bubble out and still miss my flight. That's why I was hoping for an estimate of the time the "normal" Friday night event takes.

I have played there a lot and its a well run room. A lot of locals. The Orleans had poker back before it was cool.

Last time I played there the things that I did like was the fact that in a 1-2 game you can buy in up to $500 (this was last year sometime) and they had a large jackpot that was 400-500k. I know in general jackpots are bad because it just increases the rake but when a Bad Beat gets that big it entices me even though it's negative Ev.

Jackpots are great when they cause players to start cold-calling 3-bets with 9s8s and peel a Ts3x2x flop...

unless they have changed it, the rake is 3+1, instead of the standard 4+1, or Harrah's 5+1, so the jackpot drop is less of a concern there

Room renovation began 11/26/2012 on half the room and is expected to take 10 to 14 days (I am not certain whether this is for the first half or the whole room); I was told Bravo system is coming, whether that is a part of the renovation or something to come later, I don't know.

Bravo might change this room by discouraging the absent seat problem that this room has had for a long time.

yeah I guess those people swipe in at podium and don't get blinked off table like most places nowadays.

Seems like you play here often? What's the actual comp math I have never gotten a decent answer from floor..... 750pts an hour for $1.25 value at food court or any other restaurant on Boyd properties is what I heard...

Getting this place on the bravo app would also have an influence on the occasional player

Heading out to Las Vegas in a few weeks...anyone ever play the Sunday night HORSE tournament? I've never played a live HORSE event, just online. Just wondering overall what this particular one is like. Any info is most appreciated.

The Orleans has a thriving Omaha game and a lot of the regs are "experienced" citizens, so generally speaking there won't be a lot of mixed game newbies in it. The WSOP may also bring in a few players.
