Yeah, it's a much better game than it was but I'd say that 2 or 3 people per table were buying in full. Given that, it's still a game with not much bluffing or moves because they just won't fold. It's just make a hand and bet the hell out of it and hope. If your hands don't hold up or you lose the flips of don't get much in the way of cards, you're in for a long day.

Still, the play is generally horrendous. Things I say last Saturday:

- Someone shoving all in against the nittiest player on the planet who had just 3 bet it to 200.
- Raise to 20, no callers until guy shoves in the BB for 300.
- Open raise UTG to 250. (Uptick $6 I guess.)

Of course, I managed to drop 2 buy-ins, so maybe I'm the idiot.

Is the Friday $100 tournament still the best value in this room?

Played a $110 deep stacks last Friday. Is that the one you are talking about?

New tournament at SKC that makes me happy:

There is a $230 w/ re-buy PLO tournament on Saturdays at noon. Has been roughly 25-35 players each week. First week from what I hear was the best structure, then they pulled the 75/150 and 150/300 level last week that shortened the tournament up a bit, but they will be adding one of the levels back in from here forward (hopefully the 150/300).

I was told that there is usually a 3-way chop for $5,200 or slightly less to avoid the tax man, and it runs from noon until 7pm or 8pm'ish.

Cash games after are juicy after as everyone that busts is on tilt. Usually 2 full tables of 1/2/5 PLO in the back room after about 2pm.

I'm assuming 200$ rebuys? How many levels?

I played the PLO tournament last weekend. They said they were still tweaking the structure so not exactly sure how many levels. I would absolutely play it again.

Yes, $200 rebuys

I don't see these PLO tournaments on the SKC web site schedule. Is it a definite for this coming Saturday, the 21st?

It isn't listed on the website. I am almost 100% sure for this Saturday at noon. You can always call before heading down, I think everyone gets there around 10:30am.

Correction:

It looks like the tournament is every other Saturday. 4/21/12 is the next one, 5/5/12 after that. The tournament was put together based on interest from players in the room. It is not listed, nor are there any plans to list it, that I know of. It was limited to the first 30 players but I think that may have changed. Poker room manager, Sam would be the best person to ask about it.

Thanks. Sure is important to know that it may be limited to 30 players.

I think it was originally limited to 30, not sure if it still is. I think the only reason they were considering limiting it is to entice the players to commit to playing. Since it isn't listed as a regular tournament, Sam wanted confirmation from 30 players so the tournament was guaranteed to go off

Was raining today (no golf), so went and played the $160 here.

Oh. My. God.

I haven't seen such horrendous play in loooooong time. I saw things I hadn't seen in years. Like a raise UTG at 100/200 level to 3,400. Yes, he raised 17x the BB. UTG. lol.

There's just no bluffing early on, because they just won't fold. Saw a guy call a pot bet re-raise on the turn and same on the river with A-Q off, on a board of 8-9-10-A-7 three clubs for 3/4 of his stack.

Saw another guy put in 17K of his 19K stack on the flop/turn, and then folded the river.

Later on they tighten up a bit so you can abuse people bit, but you still need to get some cards.

I didn't have anything better than a pair of queens all day and still lasted 4+ hours just by picking spots and playing position later on, and only busted due to a cooler. The jump from 100/200 to 200/400/25 is painful, but the bad play more than makes up for the sometimes crappy structure.

Is the play in the $440 or whatever it is at the end of the month this bad as well? I'm going to have to play it if so.

Yes, THAT bad. I haven't played a tournament there in maybe 18 months and the play is a lot worse than it used to be. I think there were 48 and first was around 2500. They have the numbers on their website and it seems to be around 30-50 every time. You're not going to get rich, but there's value there.

If they'd add back a couple of standard levels that they skip, this would be one of the best lower buy in tournaments I've seen as far as value based on starting stacks and level of play.

I know this thread hasn't been very active lately, but regarding the play in the tourneys, it seems the complaint is bad play by the players...isn't that what the better player wants???

The rake is standard for all Florida rooms.. The High hand jackpot is a very good promotion. Monday thru Thursday Quads or better receive $99 on the spot and $50 if the hand has already been hit. On Friday & Saturday the High Hands pay $599 and $299 on the spot all day/night long.
rett
The dealer are very good. Both friendly and competent..Every room has a dealer or two that might be in the wrong job, but otherwise they are very good.

The Floor staff and cashiers are competent and friendly. The cocktail servers are very pretty/sexy and responsive. I can't comment on the bartenders..

The managent, Sam and crew have been professional, quick and fair..

As Sarasota is a seasonal area the games are better during the winter season then the summer.

All in all One Eyed Jacks at SKC is a very good Florida poker room.

Thanks!

Agree with all except the tournament info.

The rake is higher than normal in tournaments, and I believe the main complaint is that Sam does very little to promote the tournaments/ create excitement, thus continuously driving down the entrants. The only players complaining about bad play are the ones that are bad themselves and do not understand that the horrible play makes the tournaments so +ev its absurd. I haven't played a tournament in a month or two here but the last one was their $100 Friday deepstack, saw a guy with 6BB raise 3x and fold because we were like 8 places from the money. Simply laughable.

At one point Sam promoted the room a lot more, had tournament series where he used his old influence from the WSOP days, to bring in pretty well known pros for their "Pros vs Joes" tournaments. But, there has been zero effort in any way to bring new business to the room in years...

Agreed. I think they just count on people not wanting to drive to Derby or HR. Not sure if it's Sam or the owners aren't letting him spend any money, but it's a shame to see the room slowly get worse and worse since it could be something nice.

I've seen it happen to a few rooms. They open up and everything is new and they are all enthused, and then after a couple of years they figure out that they can make 70% as much money with 10% as much effort, and the slide begins. The Jacksonville rooms went through the same thing before they got turned around to some degree.

In SRQ, it's as though they see everything that others do, and just think "Hey, we could do that....Nah, too much trouble."

Pretty much noon everyday, sometimes 11am.

Depending on the stakes you are looking to play, they tend to schedule the larger games (5/5/10) and keep everyone in the loop via text. Let me know if you need any more info.

Has anyone have an opinion of the new players card promos at One Eyed Jacks?

This month the promo is to accumulate 2500 points ( 1 point per minute of cash game play) in the month of September and receive double the posted amount for any High Hand hit in October.

Thanks!

So let me get this straight (and this is my quick math): You pay around $600 in rake over 41.6 hours (assuming 25 hands/hr and $5 rake per hand / 9 handed) and your bonus is an extra $599 if you manage to hit a one in 4,165 hand (only assuming quads)? For an actual expected value of about $147 [1025 hands played /4,165 * $599]. Unless it's been hit that day, in which case it's $73.

Hell, sign me up.
