In light of the recent lawsuit by a dealer of SKC there has been evidence of misappropriation of jackpot money. As a regular of this place I am infuriated by the fact that management has been using our jackpot money whatever they see fit. I would encourage anyone who has paid one dollar to their jackpot fund ask where it is going. Friends getting $599 "wheel spins" when in reality it was just a way of getting money to go party it up with management at the strip club. Planet Hollywood in Vegas is the closest I can think of to what these guys are doing. And to think I actually thought they were all decent people.

EDIT: 33 Big Blinds has since retracted his statement on this issue as it has been disproved in court. See posts 45 & 47 in this thread for more information.

This is a pretty serious allegation. I still read the Sarasota paper and read the report of the dealer's lawsuit but have seen nothing publicly reported like you allege. Where did you get this information? In light of other things I have experienced there (I once reported cheating I observed and was told that if I didn't like the way the room was run, I should go somewhere else.) it wouldn't shock me but is this alleged in a pleading or stated in a deposition?

Stated in a deposition. It will all come to light soon enough. The dealers will all get their money, but what about the players who have been cheated as well?

This, although there's quite a few good dealers there, most are mediocre and 25% are just awful

It's just a seedy scene. You get the impression a bottle of hand sanitizer should definitely be handed to you at the door.

Maybe some Erythromycin would come in handy too.

Thursday night, there was the Cowboys-jersey maybe meth-head 20-something dude about to "throw down" with the buffoonish 50-something guy about whether or not he had called an all-in, etc. "This is how I make my living!!" was shouted by each. They were in the 2/4 game. 50-something was escorted out. Word was, this happens a lot.

The dealers seem more interested in telling jokes and bad beat stories than dealing. MANY hands were pulled back when they failed to deal to empty seats. I had a meal, and the plate etc. stayed on the adjoining table for roughly four hours.

Cashing out three racks, the armed security guy pulled me aside and walked me out the back, down the stairwell, and to my car, reminding me not to stop my car if someone bumps me from behind.

Nice.

I think that they're a bit stuck with the owners in some regards (as far as putting money into in, opening Sundays or longer hours, etc.)

Just some examples of the issues:

- The air conditioning. If you sit on the back wall, prepare to sweat. Profusely.

- Going from a reguar bad beat to a $10K cap. Not that I care personally, but bad beats bring in tourists.

- Laws change so they can stay open later, and yet they still close at 2 or whatever. Smart, everyone knows no gambling goes on after 2 when all the tourists are half lit. Nope. No money to be made there for your regulars.

- Also, go ahead and stay closed on Sundays when probably half your population who have bankroll (and rake) generating activities (you know, those "job" thingies), have a day off. Nah, cutting our available playing time at your establishment by 50% won't have an impact.

- Limits go up, rake and drops stay the same, high hand payouts go down. Huh?

- $300 tourney goes down to $200. But vig stays the same at $30. And a $10 AO gets added? Seriously? Effectively, $200 + FORTY??? Is this some weird inverted marketing ploy?

- Every other room in the world offers 2/5 NL. SKC? 2/4.

- The high stakes room is 5/10. lol. (Maybe they should rename it the "Currently Highest Stakes Room"?

Also, apparently they put some policy in place that made any attractive waitress quit. Good move. Middle-aged, fat, bald guys hate cute 25 year old waitresses.

Seriously, it's just sad all around.
This is all true, and my understanding is Sam's hands are so tied by the owners waiting for the old man to die so they can sell, that Sam can't even buy decent unmarkable cards with regularity. This could be the rumor mill though...

I agree, yesterday the floor was brought to a table where a player told the dealer he had 2 different colored backs. Red and green, The italian looking guy said its fine were getting new decks in a few months.

I gotta tell you, I am seeing some indented and pipped cards. The little marks don't worry me quite so much as the indentations, as they are much easier to spot.

In five sessions, I have pointed out at three or four bad cards, and passed on doing so several other times (out concern of slowing the game down to an actual crawl, coupled with the remote possibility I was just being a nit).

There are a few decent dealers, though, it's true. It's just that the overall standard isn't close to what I have seen elsewhere.

The $10/20 went tonight and it was a very good game.

Naturally, I was up $5K and ended up $1K down, but all in all, a very good game. I lost to four three-outers, I went card dead, I failed to pull triggers. Oh well. There were no more than three solid players in the game at any given time. The rest of the time, the rest of the players...maybe not so solid.

We have got to figure out a way to play past 2AM. It's absurd to wait until the game gets great and break it.

Not quite sure of your player base. But doubt there is quite the sheer number of players with the bankroll to consistenly have this size game in Sarasota to consistenly run around the clock.

Well, it seems the trick is to get it to run regularly a couple of times a week to draw players from north of us. I mean, listening to people tell it, the Tampa Hard Rock is a serious drag, and Silks is spreading small games, a HUGE game and nothing in the 10/20 range at all (or, even 5/10, apparently). If we could fill the void with a relatively regular 10/20 (with a 5/10 backup, just in case), I think it could go fairly regularly.

Since there has been an interest in different games I am putting a quick table together for scheduling purposes. Please PM any games you would like to see spread, I will have the base list with me Friday and Saturday. After that I will ask to have it taped to the high hand board where players can start the interest lists.

i'm going to be in sarasota for thanksgiving and 4 days after...coming from some EPT's but more live poker is good, right? is SSKC the best poker room in the sarasota/bradenton area? does 5-10 or 10-20 usually run or is it just on select nights? if i walk in on a random wednesday, will it be exclusively 1-2?

YOu will find at least one 1/2, 2/4, and 5/10 going. Nights are random and sometimes will have two 5/10's with a list and 3-4 2/4 games. If you have a car you have more options, but yes, SKC is the best place to play in Sarasota

New $440+$10da first Saturday of the month. Next time I'm in I'll ask all the important questions, but at first glance it looks decent.

Fair enough. At the time I would have laid odds that it was the truth based on the source. My mistake for not waiting.
