dieharder, jason is a dream to have at your table
I see him making a LOT of questionable plays post flop, but I think he's a winner. Plus, I think he has adjusted his play now and plays a lot tighter preflop, and way tighter post compared to two years ago. He does look crazy, but he has very good reads on everyone, and people still pay him off.

He tends to 3 bet and cap the turn and river as a bluff way too often when its apparent the villain is determined to go to a showdown. But then again with him being there about 97% of the time that I've been in the 4 years I've been going, he has to be winning somehow. He definitely does have the ability to get paid off in big pots with strong hands though. A few sessions ago, I saw him drag a $600+ pot with JJ on a j9782 board with 3 spades on it, and he did manage to somehow get 3 bets in on the river 2 ways and still be good.

Thanks for the reply about Jason guys. I played with him again over the weekend, trying to apply Caro's advice from Super System 2 about dealing with a bully : 1 : call more, 2 : raise less, 3: seldom value bet (haha, sounds like a calling station to me), did not have enough time to tell whether it is good advice or not, but i hold my own and i am kind of looking forward for him to be on my table now.
I also hate the constant shuffle and setup as well, but it is usually the fish who is asking for the shuffle and deck change, and i want to keep them happy, so nothing i can do.
Playing with some of the "action" players on 10/20 can mean big swings, sometimes you can play ok ABC poker and end up down $600 or $700, how do you guys deal with this?

You get stuck 5 - 800 quite often in that game if you're playing well.
That's life.

But when the game is action action, you can get it back no problem.

Pretty sure I sat beside you Zunni Wednesday night at 5-10 for about 5 hands waiting for 10-20. Table 1, seat 4?? you didn't have your Habs hat on so I didn't say anything.

I was there Monday night - Tuesday afternoon...

in for 500, gone, in for another 400, but cashed out 1715 .

Like I said before, some people say they never need to buy in for more than a couple hundo, but probably 30 - 40% of the time I play sitting with 400 isn't enough.

That's just the game.

too bad about your run tho...keep working at it, it'll come. I just got smacked at 20-40 too, so i feel your pain.

Alright this may be a completely subjective question and totally player dependent but what would be my game of choice if I am rolling up to Brantford with a $1000 bankroll. I can go any day between Saturday-Friday and am comfortable at all limits. What would be the best day and the softest games....Also where is the best place to exchange money...looks like the USD is getting beat up this week so I'll have to change it back quickly before it recovers next week when the Dow drops.

Thanks

I'd recommend just go to the 5-10 tables and enjoy on friday nights. The players are worse than 10-20, and its still fun. You could play 10-20, but 1K can go fast if you hit a bad run of hands.

1000 dollar bankroll? or 1000 dollars with you to gamble with?

if x = bankroll, be serious, and play 2-5.
if x = money that you can lose (but obviously don't want to) then sure, 5-10 or 10-20. I actually find the players in the 10 game to be worse than the 5 game...they're more aggressive, but a lot of 5-10 games are uber tight and nitty, hard to separate the monies sometimes.

well, by hard I mean 'harder' than at 10-20...both games are soft 7 days a week.

about 80k poker bankroll. have played live poker only in australia. live in boston now, but am going to be at my parents in buffalo for a week. I usually only play limit so i presume ill be going up there as opposed to fallsview. I mean i understand how much you need for a game, i guess i was just trying to gauge the avg. buy in. Sometimes in melbourne it was 200 for 10/20 and somtimes it was 2000.

3-500 is standard for 10-20 there...bunch of donks rebuy for 100 after going broke over, and over, and over again.

I usually sit with 4 or 5, and add a few hundred if I don't start off in the right direction.

I imagine i'll be there tomorrow night...

Black baseball hat with a blue 'Hurley' written logo. 25, short hair, like 6' 200lb's.

Dave

10-20, or 20-40.

Do any of you guys know any specifics about the poker room renovations and how long the temporary room will be in use for? Having more working tvs is nice but it is disgustingly hot and cramped in that corner of the casino. The cage thing is also annoying too.

It'll be in the 'temp' room until at least Christmas time I heard. They were expecting something along the lines of 9 months...but I wouldn't be suprised if it takes even longer.

long time 2+2 reader figured id reply ive been a fixture in the 20-40 50-100 games in brant for a while as far as the comp goes 40ish cents /hour is right.

Jason buys for a ton so thats why he always has chips your best bet is to sit to his left as much as possible and pound him pre but he honestly doesnt go off as much as he used to OOP.

the temporary room is on the floor until january but as you all know its prob gonna take longer as it always does with casinos like this.

if you have any other questions ask or come and say hi if youre in brant im there about 4-5 days a week im the french kid with the wcoop stars jacket on his seat.

Are you the really young looking skinny kid with brown hair who has been playing the big games for years and was there on Friday talking to some hefty asian guy at a 10-20 table about your online swings?

I play 5/10 at Brantford about 2-3 times a week, like some other people said if you play on weekends there are so many fish you can make an easy 300/500 if you catch hands and play well.

I bought in for 200 at around 11:45pm and cashed out 500 at 2amish?

I learned holdem by playing at Brantford (ever since the poker room opened) so I will always be nostalgic about it, but the $$ is so much easier to win in Niagara Falls, its not even a comparison. Even though I prefer LHE, the drunk tourists/partiers on the weekends in the Falls make their NLHE games the best place to be in the Golden Horseshoe...not counting the CNE of course, can hardly wait for summer!

It does amaze that to this day I can walk into the room at Brantford and see many of the same faces from a decade ago. They can't all be consistent winners, and there isn't enough dead money players that walk in off the street, I wonder how they can keep playing...

You might recognize me, you might not. I've been going like twice a month for about 3-4 years now. Usually play 10-20. 6'9 280 shaved head. I remember seeing you at the 50-100 table every single time we went so my buddy could play in it.

Didn't see this until now but I believe so. Theres only one other semi reg there who is my height or a bit taller but hes kind of skinnyfat and has curly poofy hair.

base_stealer - I think I played with you last time I was there. Do the words world series of smoking crack mean anything to you? (part of the table talk)

And are the rumors that Jason is busted true? Last time I was there people were saying they hadn't seem him for over a month which was odd because he had quit his day job already.

and zunni is your first name jonathan?
