I live in Western NY and play limit, at Seneca & Fallsview. I have never been to Brantford but have heard chatter about it at the tables. How are the games there? What's the demographic of their players? Are they wild and agressive, tight passive? Good or weak players? And how are they raked?

I've thought of taking a trip to there to check it out, but not sure if I want to drive over 90 minutes to get to a game when there are games within a 1/2 hour of me, though nothing over 5/10 at Fallsview.

I haven't played there in about 8 months but back then 20-40 was strong and 50-100 on Tuesdays. The 50 game dried up over the course of time as the fish slowly went broke. Depending on player lineup the games ranged from being Tight-passive to loose-agressive. If you're playing 5-10 lots of donks, but that's the case in all B&M 5-10 games.

You should check it out at least once to see for yourself.

They went on strike for 2 months in the summer and the room has not been the same since.

Prior to strike, it was common for all 12 tables to be in use with waiting lists at 2 in the afternoons during the week. Now, I have been there in the evening at 9 and only 9 tables going. Sooo sad, best limit room with stakes 50/100 and below for 1000 miles.

As for the games, I've sat at 20/40 and watched it get capped 9 way 3 out 5 hands for 2 hours (look for machine gun mark). Other times, 3 people to a flop, no raises for an hour.

10/20 is tougher but still has lots of action (look for action jason)

5/10 is 5/10, lots of passive limpers hand after hand any time of the day.

And don't even think about comps, WORST ROOM IN THE WORLD FOR COMPS. You can play 100 hours and when you ask "how much do I have available?", don't be surprised if the supervisor says "oh, you are in the negative, you owe us". No lie, just lying scumbags when it comes to comps...

Funny my OLG Brantford Hoodie that I paid for ($35) in comps a couple of weeks ago would beg to differ with you.. As would all the meals I've taken from playing there..

You get $.46 for every hour you play... Perhaps a pittance but you are given what they advertise

As for the game, it's true the strike (and the economy and time of year) have caused a noticeable slow-down in action in the room.

Since there is a 2/5 game there, the really new fishy players play that game. 5/10 is a fun game but the play varies significantly from visit to visit. I've seen a new table open and get 6 chops in the first orbit and I've seen 10/20 players come down (while waiting for a table at their game) and drop a few hundred in an hour.

If you have any more specific questions, PM me, I'm there at least 2x a week...

This is good info on a previously neglected area casino. I did a forum search on Brantford and only found a couple threads talking about the strike and another that was pretty dated.

When you talk about the 2/5 game - is that a 2/5 LIMIT game or are they spreading a no limit game now? And I'm not really sure why I inferred in my first post that I'd be interested in a higher game. Unless it was pretty weak, I'm not really rolled for much over 5/10.

As for the comps, $0.40/hour is comparable to Fallsview and Niagara, so no surprise there.

Zunni, it sounds a lot like the limit game at Fallsview. Sometimes I go there and it's chop chop chop go the blinds. Other times I'm there and every pot is 7 or 8 handed for at least 1 raise. Must be the Canadian playing style.

I guess I'll have to check it out some Friday or Saturday one of these weekends. Any 2p2ers interested in meeting up there? There don't seem to be any that play limit games local to me.

Yes, Brantford is a LIMIT game only.

2/5 is a fun game but be prepared for your premium hands to get cracked by garbage as people will chase flushes and straights (even trying to get 2 pair) all the way to the river. The rake is also 10% up to $5 so it does make beating the game more difficult.

If I know when you are interested in going, I can most likely meet you there, PM me and let me know...

You think I am wrong? Ask any supervisor or pit staff what the #1 complaint is and they shall tell you, WITHOUT FAIL, is the comp system in regards to the poker room.

I played there 5 days a week for the first 4 years it was open, I know what I am talking about...

I don't doubt your experience (I have no reason to), I'm just sharing mine. I've had good experience. (as have others I've spoken to)

Perhaps something has changed in the last 2 years I've been playing there in terms of how they handle the poker comps, all I can speak to is my experience...

Word on the street has it that they're installing Player Card readers at every of the poker tables seats...thus allowing players to insert their cards when they sit and when they leave.

the room is also supposed to be moved to the back of the casino...all this starting early in the New Year when the casino undergoes some major renovations/updating.

I'll believe it when i see it with regards to the room moving and the card readers, but the renovations are casino wide and should happen, so fingers crossed.

I hope they get ride of those 2/5 games, it is just a hiding place for all the fishes. I guess the casino likes to keep it this way, so all the fishes are pretected, and eventually lose all their $ to the casino through the rediculous high rakes.

FYI... the rake is only for the 2/5 and 5/10 tables. I've been playing the 10/20 game lately which has a $5 half hour session fee. I'm not sure how this compares to other casinos but seems fairly reasonable.

The comp is not very good compare to Vegas, but the same like Seneca or Rama, around 50 cents per hour. So after 14 hours of play you can have a breakfast combo downstairs.

What time does the 10/20 game there usually break on weekends? I want to make a trip and will probably wind up at 5/10 and think it would be a good idea to head over to 10/20 if/when it gets shorthanded.

I haven't played in a few weeks, but I've never seen the 10/20 break. Always had at least 1 table going all night on weekends. Might get a little short, 7 or 8 handed at 5-8am.

But then the day shift start showing up again.

ahhhhhhh, that guy "action" Jason always sits there with a huge stack, i don't understand why anyone want to be on the same $10/20 table with him. How does he do it? Does he just steal a lot, and he has a good read of people so he can get out of tight spot? i cannot find too much success at the $10/20 table, so i am playing some $5/10 these day, next weekend i am going to Rama and then Seneca for some $2/5 minbet fun, lol

dieharder, jason is a dream to have at your table

he buys in for like 2k because he's 3 feet tall and needs to feel some semblance of size and importance. he then proceeds to 3 and 4 bet about 80 percent of his hands preflop, and tries to bully people out of the pot post flop. I personally think he's marginal at best, and the only time he ever wins is when he runs good and people don't believe him that he has a hand.

Here's a question for the other brantford regs - is anyone else sick of the constant deck changes? In the last 2 weeks I have played 15 hours there and been through 13 deck changes outside of the regular every 4 or 6 hour set up change. One time we had 2 deck changes and a set up change in the span of 30 minutes. Its a waste of time and money when everyone is paying session fee to watch the dealer fan and count cards every 10 hands, and there needs to be some sort of rule adapted which punishes the habitual abusers.

I also noticed that some people habitually abuse the IWTSTH rule, and no one seems to care. I played with a guy on Tuesday night who would invoke it anytime he folded before showdown, just to see if he would've won or had the second best hand, and no one cared because he was yo-yoing about 25 bets an hour with his big stack.

and i think i know who zunni is. There is a guy who is there playing 2/5 every single time I have been there at night for about 3 years now. Glasses, balding, overbite, 30s, always looks happy and smiling and talkative. Is that you?

Why you would want to drive so far out of your way when you have Fallsview and Seneca at your disposal is beyond me. Especially if you're going to be playing mostly 5/10 anyway.

Save yourself the hassle, trust me.

Im from pretty close to brantford and used to go to the casino all the time for the 5-10 limit game. Its SUPER soft and very beatable. I would recommend this game to any decnet player because you will ruin it. I would honestly rather play that game the th 2-5 game because the 2-5 is just comical.

But as for the fact that you have a long ass drive to get here... trust me... save the drive lol. The Casino is not that nice let alone the city lol. Go to Fallsview or Seneca.

Ahhh nothing like seeing a Brantford Casino thread on the front page of B&M to warm my heart.

I'm not the guy you are thinking of. I don't play 2/5 much anymore (unless I'm waiting for 5/10) but built the majority of my roll from playing that stake.

I haven't been to the Casino in almost a month, family comes first in my life.

But in case you do want to pop by and say hi here are my 'stats'

Glasses = yes
overbite = don't think so, have asked others for confirmation
30's = yes but I look young so most people don't think so, (I get asked my age/carded almost every visit unless the security people recognize me)
baldling = NO, I too much hair actually (not long but thick)
Happy & smiling = yes, I'm doing one of the things I love, playing cards and taking your money, why wouldn't I look happy
Talkative = yes, I'm fairly talky away from poker so that comes with me, but I do find people loosen up a bit the more friendly the table so I like to exploit my personality to get people talking. Most of the time it works, some times doesn't. I also find I save bets because people won't do things like check/raise me or will let me know if I'm beat because they think I'm a nice guy
Clothes = my clothes don't help the perception I'm young, I generally wear a black and white montreal Canadiens cap/brown Quebec Nordiques cap, hooded sweatshirt, jeans etc.
Distinguishing marks = I have a birthmark/mole over my left eye so it's easy to know if it's me you are thinking about.

If you happen to see me at the tables, please come by and give me a 'sup bro'. I'll likely counter-sign something about sup bro's football prowess
Mostly there Sundays and Wednesday's nights now.

GL at the tables...

Zunni despite that very in depth description, I am not entirely sure who you are but maybe when I am playing 5 10 while waiting for 10 20 I will see you an it will registrez.

I second whoever said limit isn't dead, I am here right now and the lists are massive. Calling ahead is plus EV.

The key is the hat... Just look for the black Montreal hat with white/silver/grey logo, only one I've seen like it.

I can also put on a 'Hi, I'm Zunni' nametag but that takes all the fun out of it

I might be there Wednesday night this week after 8.

------------------------

I've told people in Casino Niagara and Fallsview once they hear I play in Brantford that Limit isn't even close to dead. Huge line-ups and great action.
