Thanks in advance,

I am also interested in live poker in Mexico's resort areas ( safe for tourists).

I just got back from Mexico City where I played a decent amount of poker.

I only played at one casino, called Casino Palace Insurgentes, but it was good. Game started as early as 2pm some days, but sometimes a little delay depending on how many people showed up. Game was pretty much always up and running by 4pm. between 2pm-4pm the game was MX$25/MX$25 (~$1.25/$1.25). Then from 4pm it was MX$25/MX$50 ($1.25/$2.50).

They had some high hand promotions, the first ran between 4pm-6pm and the person who had the highest hand won MX$2000. Then another one from 6pm-9.30pm. This one seemed to vary but was usually MX3000, sometimes a little more. They also would pay if you hit quads, a straight flush or a royal flush (I remember quads paying MX$1000 but can't remember for straight/royal flush).

The rake was an interesting one, they would take MX$50 from each pot above MX$250 and then an additional MX$25 once the pot got above MX$1000 I think it was and that was it so the rake is effectively capped at 1.5BB which is pretty outrageous. Although when you cash out you have to pay 4.5% of your winnings but even with this the rake is still incredibly good. But due to this the best thing to do is just keep your winnings as chips and then if you have a losing day when you cash out you can use the chips to get to cashing out for "even" for that day so you've basically cashed out those chips "tax-free".

The game itself is decent, before 6pm there is not too much action, most of the locals are just there to try hit the high hand. Some of the players are friends and soft play each other a bit and will throw each other a couple big blinds after winning a pot which seemed incredibly strange at first and somewhat concerning but there is definitely no collusion going on, if they are they're doing a terrible job of it.

Usually in the evening the action picks up pretty well and some nights they'll have up to 3 tables running for a few hours. Most days the game will also run until the early hours, if there is a game still running and everyone wants to play they don't close the table, we once played until 2pm the following day but often it will run until between 5am-9am.

The minimum buy in was MX$3000 so 60BB which is quite liked, means people couldn't just sit in the game with 20-40BB which I hate about a lot of places. The max I'm not too certain of, I thought that it was MX15,000 (300BB) but pretty sure I saw a dude sit down with MX20,000 the one day. Overall it's a really good game, with pretty decent rake and the atmosphere is great fun as well.

I think I covered most things but let me know if you want any more info. Also, free food and drink.

The ubiquitous smoke (even at tables where people were getting up & walking away from the table) was the only issue in my one visit there.

Probably fine for those used to it.

Bumping this. Really interested in how the poker at Casino Insurgentes is these days. Would love to chill in CDMX for the winter.

They usually update via their social media (FB et al).

Código Póker does a daily list of (all) Mexico games/tourneys that are scheduled to run that day (not necessarily inclusive, etc).

Probably want decent+ proficiency in Spanish, or it’s going to be difficult.
