Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

Sat yesterday for a couple sessions. Had to request review of last weeks play to get credit. Didn't check on credits for this trip yet.

Lots of regs with a few casual mixed in. One 1st timer briefly at the table today.

Ran good enough to buy tacos for the table last night... not so much today.

Question...
Does Ocean have a record of my play even though I have not received any comp dollars for it ?
Is that how their able to give credit for play ?

If you were clocked in using
Your player's card, they have a record
Of it. If you were clocked in
As a guest, no.

Table tacos? Remind me to find you next time I'm in town.

When I went to the desk on Tuesday to ask, they could see how many hours I was logged in for the past Thursday. She said she would adjust it.

When I went to the desk last night to ask, he confirmed about what I told him (3 hours Tues, 3 hours Tues, 3 hours Wed, 6 hours Wed). He said the dollars may take a little bit to show up. This morning, I had fewer than expected comp dollars in my account.

Home now, but I'll have to follow up again.

No problem. If I win a pot that big, I'll buy again. Raised from the blinds with AA, got a couple callers. Cbet the flop when I hit my set and didn't lose anyone. Blocker bet the turn when the flush draw came, MP raised, LP called all-in for less and I called. Shoved when the river paired the board. MP called.

Ate at Zhen Bang with the wife. I thought it was good, my wife said the tendons in the beef tendon soup were too chewy. Shrimp dumplings were tasty, salt and pepper pork chops were great, my sushi roll was good enough. Food rolled out all at once, the waiter said the kitchen was crazy, unsure when things would come out. We agreed to let him bring them when ready. we normally order in waves to avoid everything at once. Shame on them for fooling me. We'll order in waves next time. Of note, i spoke to another WGMTAG (White Guy Married To Asian Girl), who raved about the seafood pan fried noodles. Not knowing his wife yet, I didn't really pay much attention. After meeting her, I give him credit and will try that next time.

Breakfast/Brunch was supposed to be at Harpers. The signs directed us to the Sky Cafe (casual side of same location). We opted to sit at the bar, no tables were suitable at the time. Her Chicken and Waffle cone was tasty. My BBQ Benedict was a good idea, poorly executed. I'll go omelette next time.

Taco truck to-go orders were tasty, but really you should eat stuff fresh. Didn't make sense for all of us to go, so one player said she would go and bring it back. Maybe shenanigans, as my box had XTRA written on it, another box didn't and she appeared to be eating a bowl of something. I thought she was just bringing back tacos? I took chips off the table to give her to buy the tacos (nobody commented about going south, which would have been fair). She said the $45 was almost enough, but graciously covered the last $5-ish (tip?). Was supposed to go back with the wife, but we weren't hungry again.

We did eat at the players lounge a couple of times. She turns up her nose at the player lounge at the Borg, but thought this one was higher quality with an obvious smaller selection. Salad, shrimp, pasta, chicken, fish, pork... tasty and we filled up. Hoping to find a way to keep the black card, and comped access to the lounge.

Popped into the players lounge in the high limit slot area. Just grabbed a couple of drinks at almost closing time. Similar food selections. Very close to the poker tables and maybe a better choice to run for a quick bite.

We didn't see any lines at the players lounges, maybe we were there at off times? We did see some people that were not brought up with the same manners that I was, and I'm hoping that they don't ruin it for the rest of us.

Room had a great view. Junior Suite, 41st floor. On the 'back' end of the hotel, facing south to see all of AC, ocean, etc. The room was not cleaned well, straightened and the TV didn't work when we arrived. Called about the TV, got a "No problem, we'll send someone right up", but called again in 20 minutes when nobody came. Left 10 minutes later to get a bite to eat. Called about it a 3rd time when we came back. Guy arrived a couple minutes later and plugged in something that was unplugged.

Not everything in the room worked, but it was still nice. Showers were great, if you enjoy a good shower. TV checkout didn't work. Went down to VIP for checkout.

Nice bag when we checked in. Hats, chocolates and some other things my wife was going through.

TopGolf section looked pretty cool. Still not 100%, but some people playing in the bays and others like us milling around. $50 for an hour sounds reasonable to me, split among a small group. Food/Beverage appeared to 'club pricing' for me, but I'm cheap.

Overall, I was very happy to be back. I did forget how large a place it was, and how inconvenient it was to "get there from here." Back to packing well enough to not need to leave the area.

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

Mini Trip Report from Tier-Matcher:

(Cashed out substantially ahead in 1/2 and 2/5 NL so I may be seeing it through rose-colored glasses.)

-The games were fishy enough, even with some of the usual suspects from The Borgata. I was not on my A game half the time, and still only one poster in this thread who shall remain nameless really had my number.

-The dealers were decent, except for one who really had no idea what he was doing. Making change took forever. That was the longest down ever, and the floor didn't seem concerned by this ineptitude. (however we don't know what happens behind closed doors, so I don't want to make assumptions that he didn't get a talking to)

-The floor staff were OK; I think they're well-intentioned and at least they were polite and respectful to the players. They don't seem to have a strong command of the "room," but it's also a tiny space that doesn't require much.

-Waitress staff skews toward competent, polite, and absurdly-proportioned.

-Very notable absence of massage girls.

-Went to this Mexican place to grab a quesadilla, and they took a VERY long time to get me my food, and I noticed that several other people were waiting just as long. It was delicious, though, and huge for the money.

-Drink selection is standard issue at the tables, frequency of service is fine.

-It took way too long to get ONE 2/5NL game going on a Saturday night, and it remained the only one all night into the morning.
(The upside is that it ran until at least 5AM.)

-The space has an energy to it because it's surrounded by loud slots, so even when it was half-dead at 3PM, it wasn't depressing.

-A few wanderers from gambling sat down, because of it being right in the middle of the casino area, which is always good.

-The Premiere lounge line is ridiculously slow. The food selection is weak. They give access to 2 tiers of cards, and the lines seem never to move. The Amphora line is better, and that's really saying something. I've been inside before, and it's OK. The bar in there is better than Amphora's, but the food isn't even close in selection or quality.

-The televisions were bigger than the ones at Borgata (it'd be hard for them not to be), but the selection of programming was limited, and I think they were mirroring instead of being controlled individually. The staff claimed not to know how to change the channel.

Overall I would go again and recommend it to my friends, but only generous room comps would make this my home. Not overwhelmingly thrilled, but has the potential to sap some of Borg's rake right off the bat, as well as evolving into someplace that tops them all.

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

Nice report.

Yes, after watching some shark week, I think there are just smaller fish coming here. Not enough to attract the bigger/better players, people in this thread excluded of course. Plenty of walkers. Not unusual to see an empty seat with a stack. I suppose when there is a list and demand for seats they may revisit policy/procedures. Not every dealer put missing players into the lobby.

There was talk of 1/3 and 2/5, but nothing got off the ground midweek when I was there. I don't play 2/5, but might have dipped my toes into that water if it ran when I was there.

Happy with the dealers, the table had to instruct one dealer that the player who tossed a $5 onto his $1 SB was calling. The issue was quickly and quietly resolved, we hope she learned from it. Don't think the floor noticed, we didn't find it important enough to call and slow the game down.

First floor I met didn't appear strong, and looked like they were going to listen to the regs. Next floor appeared to have a command of the room.

Frequent visits and check ins by the Wait staff. Agreed competent and polite. Awkwardly young (IMHO).

If the Mexican place was the Distrito (taco truck), the food was awesome. So far I've only had the shrimp/chorizo tacos. Slower than the local (Chipoltle, Moes, Bubbakoos, etc) places that we're used to for sure. I'll try something else next time.

We did get a guy who never played poker before. Terrible, awkward and went to the pits after losing $100 of his $140. He called every bet when he had at least 1 paint card. Every street, improved or not. He did win a decent pot with Jack high off a reg who bluffed the river. Donked most off to another reg and then got up with remaining chips. Seemed happy that he got to play. Won't sit back down.

We missed the long lines at the lounge. I'm not waiting on a long line for either. Easier to find an off time and pop in. Yes, I enjoyed the food at Amphora, but my wife disagreed. I did enjoy not using comp $$ though.

I think ESPN and ESPN2 were on the TVs non-stop. Sometimes mirrored, but not always. 100% believe most staff doesn't know how to change channel.

Hard to see it growing big enough to overtake the Borg, but I hope it becomes sustainable. My wife prefers staying on the boardwalk, I prefer comped rooms and poker. Fingers crossed.

Thanks. Yes, it was Distrito.

You would probably know this: I played for about 12 hours, maybe 6 of which were 2/5. When I call, they say I have $8 on my card. Has this happened to you, and if so, how did you resolve it? (I didn't spend any while I was there.)

I do know that.

Yes, it has happened to me.

No, I have not been able to resolve it. But I've tried a few things.

1st session was 2 weeks ago. Played a few hours. Didn't check anything.

2nd group of sessions (sessions #2-5) was last week. Played 4 sessions of 3+ hours each.

When I sat last week (session #2) I asked the floor if she would check. She did. It was off. She went to the computer, confirmed a length of time close to what I had and said she would take care of it.

I checked a kiosk while on cigar break at the end of session #5. It wasn't as much as I thought it should be. I spoke to the floor at the desk on my way back. He checked the computers, said he found all the sessions and times close to what I gave him. He said sometimes the comp dollars lag behind.

They didn't catch up before checkout the next morning. They haven't caught up as of yesterday when I called the general number. After 15 minutes of talking/holding I declined to wait to be connected to the poker desk.

I'll stop by the desk on my next visit. Not happy, but apparently it will be the easiest way for me to do it. I also need to stop by the players card desk. I don't know how many tier credits I have, and they said they don't have access online. I'd like a straight answer on
A) How many I have right now
B) How many I should have, with poker and some slot play
C) The rates at which they are earned at 1/2, 1/3, 2/5 (including if they are 2X, 3X etc)
D) What date they will re-assess for status
E) How many TCs are needed by then for each status level

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

This problem of not receiving the advertised comp $/hr at poker is pushing me into not playing here. I will probably visit to do the card match and receive any benefits, but I will wait until they fix the card issue. Bad first step forward.

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

the tier points for 1-2 are 180 per hour.
(this is part of a promotion that will end September 30th.)
the comps are $2/hour for 1-2.
The comp dollars don't lag behind.
The comp dollars show up on the kiosk
immediately at the end of play.
I spoke to a supervisor who I trust
who assured me he had the power to
fix this for all players who left
their name and card number with a supervisor.
you need 15,000 tier credits for platinum
by the end of September.
(I earned these in July.)
You need 75,000 tier points by the end of September
to keep your black card.
I won't reach this number.
But a younger man or woman could do it.
Ask the supervisor to leave your name and card number
for the day supervisor.
I have received all of my earned comps and
tier points without the assistance of a supervisor
or shift manager. There are probably about
3 people in the place that know how
tier points and comps are distributed
to poker players, and only one
with the power to correct it.
Be persistent.
I don't have complaints
About the tier points or
Comps. My complaint
Is that my room offer
Is a bait-and-switch fraud
And that I was served frozen
Food in the Premier
Lounge after raising
The quality issue
With the CEO and
Giving him sufficient
Time to cure the problem.

You need 25k to maintain black beyond the promo period. 75k for the following year. I have 40k already

I just checked with
A supervisor at
The player's card services
and no one knows what you
Are talking about. 75K to keep
The black card after September 30th
is the only number they are aware of.
Who is the source for your allegation?

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

Yes, but the kiosk shows
The tier points earned
Already multiplied
By 3. For 1-2 nl
The tier points are
180 per hour. This number
Has already been multiplied
By 3.
So you need 75,000
Tier points to show up
On the kiosk by September 30th, 25K 3.
Since the kiosks already
Show the tier points multiplied
By 3, it's confusing to use
The 25K number, as the number of tier points
Before being multiplied by 3
Are never seen by the player.
And, of course, the kiosk
Numbers shown are based on
75,000 tier points to get the black card.
It's too bad that some
Folks at player's services
Explain the matter in a confusing
Way. But it's understandable
As the left hand doesn't have a
Clue what the right hand is doing
In several of the casino Departments
I've studied.

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

I guess I am one of the Borg regs and it is true that quite a few of us are coming here. I see a lot of familiar faces at the lounge and at the tables. Most people seem to have the same idea as me; play enough to get comped rooms. For some reason, there also seem to be quite a few Sugarhouse regs.

The games themselves are... variable. A ton of regs are waiting for casual players who - if they sit - might be absolutely terrible. Games can be great or terrible and it just depends on luck. What sucks is that if games are dry, you are stuck and would have to drive for more options. I've seen instances where a new table gets started, 5 regs from old table immediately move to new table, and old table people don't want to play short and it breaks. Or a few people walk, the others don't want to play shorthanded, and all the sudden, there is no more game. It ends abruptly.

Basically, my primary reason for playing here is to get comped rooms and maybe keep some status. But ~70K tier points at 180/hour is impossible for me so it might be a lost cause. That's 400+ hours and I could do it if the games were great and I knew the reward (rooms) was there for sure. But the games are not that good and can die quickly.
Also, even if there is no flop, they rake. At Borg, no flop, no drop.

The loungers are good enough for free, but there is no way in hell I would pay $10 for them. As far as drinks, I know they don't offer Red Bull and I'm not a drinker. As far as food, Amphora and Borg Buffet are about 10x better for $12. It is not even close. Going to that Oceans High Roller lounge really makes me think how pathetic it is to be a high roller if after all that money gambled they get some crappy free sandwiches and essentially the same cake with 5 different frostings on top. Pretty good for free, but not worth even $10 IMO, compared to Borgata.

I am also concerned about my comps and tier points showing up. I have my doubts and need to keep track on my own. I suggest you guys keep track as well. I think I might be short but not sure...

What Oceans should've done is a 5x or 10x bonus till September so that they can establish a small crew of regs to keep start and keep the games alive all year. We should tell them that instead of some tiny high hand or small BBJP, they should just be more generous with Tier Points so that people can earn that Black Card and rooms and become regs to start and keep games alive.

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

Your main point is sensible.
The problem is that the
Folks in this place who
Decide on conditions, comps and tier
Points for poker players,
have a basic contempt
For the value of poker players.
But their selections at the
Premier Player's Lounge,
as you noted,
shows the @TheOceanAC executives
are clueless about the
General casino
Business. As
As you note,
There's no way they are
going to draw high rollers or
Borgata poker
Players with their food selections.
Bally's, Golden Nugget, Tropicana, & Borgata
all have a better feel of
The promotions poker players need.
In general, the low level supervisors
are competent, so the great
errors in judgment are being
Made by folks at a higher
Level of management than
The supervisors we chat
With on the casino floor.
The evidence suggests
They don't have the cash
Necessary to do what's needed.
And when the casino is
Short on capital, poker
players will be the first
to suffer. On September 4th
This will all be a moot point,

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

I agree on all points, but in spite of it all I am still going to give them a chance because there is also still a lot of good there. Let's see how it pans out for
Q3/Q4. I'll never stop playing at Borg, but I'm rooting for this to be a solid #2.

I can spend $10 on a quesadilla and then get my friends/dates bombed in the premiere lounge for free like a bighitter, and be happy with that between sessions.

Spoke to a good friend a couple of days ago, he is a dealer at the ocean he told me he asked the same questions the players ask about the promotions tommy told him its out of his hands...tell the players he doesn't know anything. After the card benefit wears off it will be a slot space.

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

Story time... The other night I saw one of the most unprofessional things I have ever seen in a casino.

One of the players had a hoodie on. He had it on for many hours without any issues. A security guard walked by and asked him to take it off. The player got angry, and they both stared arguing.

The "n" word was thrown around from both sides, they were both yelling at each other, the security guard challenged the player telling him he gets off in 1 hour, etc. Some of the higher ups were present because this is when they were collecting money boxes/etc but did not say anything.

I'm not surprised how the player acted since many people lose their temper and say stupid things, especially if they are losing. What really surprised me is how Oceans security guard responded.
