Do you have a source on that, or is it just based on the fact that they haven't opened it yet?

Many rumors and few facts.
The facts point to closing the
Room and the theft of the BBJP
Funds. So someone should write
A letter to DGE to preemptively
Dissuade Ocean Casino from not giving
Out the BBJP funds to the poker
Players without notice. Second,
someone should inform the president
Of the casino that several steps
Have been taken by the
current management to destroy
The poker area. Note that they
Have taken away the cash back
Without reducing the 4 plus 2 drop.

I agree that if they don't return the collected promotional funds, that would be a big problem, but I am thinking upper management is in the decision-making loop on destroying the poker area.

So, any updates on the future of the room or on how they plan on dissipating the Bad Beat funds if they will indeed be closing it?

No news. Upper management
Is not revealing their intentions.
Borgata management has
Some understanding that
$80-100+ drop per table per
Hour w/out risk of loss is
Helpful to the casino health.
Let's see if Ocean values
The contributions of poker...
About 100+ poker players will
Lose their black cards on October
1st and many may ask why...
Starting this week Ocean Casino
and most other casinos in AC
will lose a lot of money for
The next ten months. Will be
Interesting to see the owner's
reaction.

I send a message to their Facebook for shits and giggles and asked and they responded back that while there are now limited hours in the poker room, which we already knew, they are not closing it. Take that for what it's worth.

Then why take the rakeback away.. literally the only reason they were getting games. Hooefully they bring it back, maybe just not give as much away.

Maybe they just wanted to try it without rakeback for one month to see how much falloff there would be. If they got about the same amount of business, they would probably conclude they're giving away all that cash for nothing. So the best thing you can do is stay away this month in case this is a test month.

I understand all of that however if the Rakeback meant the room was not profitable and it's also not profitable without it, that won't leave Ocean with many options. It doesn't make sense for them to have a poker room as a loss leader.

I believe the rakeback was paid out of the $2 bad beat jackpot drop so, money wise, it didn't matter to the casino.

rakeback? had nothing to do with why i played there. often i left town before i could even pick up the rakeback, since its like a month wait. it was cause i got 3 nights FREE per week in the hotel and u want as many casino options as possible in case u get ahead so much u want to hit and run and play next door.

For those who want rakeback to be brought back, then it makes sense to show a drop off in business when it is removed. They would see that it was a promotion that was popular. It doesn't matter where the money came from. If rakeback proves to not be a driver of business, they could very well use it for some other promotion, perhaps to build the bad beat jackpot up faster.

Promotional money is used to promote business, so if it doesn't work, they'll see it as a waste paying out that promotional money.

I played in this room back in April. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole casino shut down. It was a ghost town. It's a shame because the casino is pretty nice, and every one was helpful. Harrah's had more traffic than this place.

The regs just seemed like rakeback grinders. Very little action at my tables, and some lady refused to pay $15 that she lost. I think she got banned.

Never got to play the 2/5 games at Oceans, but action was good at borgata 2/5 so I didn't really see a reason to play here after 2 days of grinding.

Good for them for finally realizing that the high comps and rakeback brought in a bunch of people who just sat there collecting rewards without putting money in the pot. They generated no action and no rake for the house, and discouraged action players from going there.

This is true. Hopefully they revamp the system. Giving a little less away as far as rakeback

That's why High Hands or just less rake (i.e. $1 promo instead of $2 promo) are way better...

They also destroyed the Tier credit accrual rate making it almost impossible for poker players to get a black card again

The blowback ,
Of the much reduced and delayed
Tier credit accumulation,
will also come in the form
Of loss of gamblers who will
End up at Tropicana or
Borgata, that now give
Poker players complimentary
Rooms easier

Just tried to get a room on a Sunday or Monday in November and they wouldn't comp me so oh well. Guess I'll stay and play cards in Philly.

So what happened to the room on Oct 1? I see a wait list on Bravo. Is it remaining open?

The formula for a successful room in AC has been tested very well at Borgata: rooms (which costs almost nothing if casino is not booked full), food lounge (where the cost is pretty minimal) and do not rape the players with rake. (and that includes no flop/no drop)

This is by far the nicest casino on the Boardwalk and arguably all of AC but they are just plain greedy and poorly managed. The slot players also feel this as their slot selection sucks and I am pretty sure has lower payout %. (Does anyone know if slot payouts % are disclosed to Gaming and the public?)

Still open... Played yesterday for 3 hours with 3 pals. no game til almost 2pm.. we each won the HH 3 hrs in a row..
Lately games have been better now that the rakeback whores have left. On Tuesday the 1-2 was playing like a 5-10.. and there was about 5k on the table.

Oh nice. Glad they got rid of the rakeback. I might play here next time i'm in town and do some drinking at the table with people that will actually drink with me.

Maybe we can get an omaha game going too.
