What are you going to expect from an 8 table room? I would be shocked if they got a 2/5 game more than once a week. This will basically be a 1/2 and small limit room only imo

I played poker (no pit games) and stayed at Revel pretty regularly and never rec'd any contact in advance of the re-opening. Thin attendance prob due to poor initial marketing. However, with only 8 tables and low rake the only income, other games no doubt have a higher priority.

Hi Carl, just a general observation to help clarify (I have no stake in Revels or Oceans business) Not being contacted is not unusual when a shuttered property reopens as data bases are the property of the outgoing casino owners. When casinos are shutdown (especially for as long as Revel was), databases are not just forwarded onto the next owner of the property. I'm pretty sure those records were gone with Revels departure. I doubt even Mr. Straub was ever given a database for the property. Now, had Revel been open and operational during the sale, the database information would/may have been included (negotiated for and sold) in the sale and transferred to the new ownership.

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

I'd been thinking they definitely got Revel's email list in the sale, since I've been getting OR emails for six weeks or so. I think I've had a Hard Rock email or two, which I'd think would come from the Taj contact list. Only Borgata and maybe Caesars are the others in town with my email address, and it's hard to see them selling a list to new competition. Maybe they got some info but not all. I don't think I've had paper mail from either.

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

I made three short visits to Oceans on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. These are my thoughts and impressions:

- The poker tables are on casino floor roped off from the slots. It is loud.
- There was no 5/10NL game. I guess they were testing something on Bravo.
- One of the dealers is terrible. He socialized so much with the players he was actually the one slowing down the game. He did not know all the rules and looked at some players to confirm that what he is doing is correct several times. He also gave a player incorrect change. I was surprised that he got hired.
- When I played Sunday, it was 2 regs from Harrahs and 3 regs from Sugarhouse - all on first name basis. There were 2 recreational players. I expected Oceans to draw a big crowd and at least have many casual players at the tables. I was wrong. On Friday and Saturday when I checked out the tables, I recognized so many regs from Borgata it was not even funny.
- Waitresses - very hot.

If this is the best they can do on opening weekend, the future is not very bright here. Action at Harrahs, Ballys, and Tropicana is better on any random weekend compared to the action I saw here on opening weekend.

Overall, casino floor is dark and gloomy in my opinion. It did not strike me as a billion dollar casino. Maybe the terrace/rooms/etc are nice, but the casino floor is nothing to remember.

I don't know how to draw casual players to the poker room, but it doesn't look like they did anything at all. Nothing. What does the poker manager do there, I have no idea.

I was one of the people really excited at the promise of this room. I thought that the upscale venue would draw a good crowd of fish. So far, this is not the case.

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

If they are just going to have a token poker room with little effort put in, it's better that it's the middle of the slot floor than off in a distant corner. When the regs from better casinos stop coming to check it out, it should at least be able to sustain a game or two on walk-bys until management gets rid of it to add more slots.

I totally agree. While as a player I don't care for the casino atmosphere, I do think it has potential to draw casual walk bys.

I've been to Planet Hollywood in Vegas and they definitely draw a casino crowd.

The showboat room used to be right between the door to the boardwalk and the table game area, and the music theater was right at the top of the stairs. It got a lot of walk-by business. One night I was told that Marilyn Manson had played that afternoon before his show upstairs that night.

They definitely have the Revel's database. People who got new player cards got the same number they had with the Revel.
I also think they've put very little thought into this room. They rushed everything so they could open the same day as the Hard Rock, and it shows.

That's true, but they do have a poker room manager, who is probably in charge of poker room. What has he been doing last few weeks to attract players on opening weekend? Apparently, nothing.

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

There are a lot of excellent rewards
Depending on your card
Comps are $2/hr
Though today i registered $1 comp an hour
On previous days I had been getting $2 comps
An hour. (No one in the poker room
Or in marketing, or anywhere could explain
When I earned my comps or how many
Comps I earned per session.)

It appears poker players earn no tier points
From their play, meaning they can not
Maintain their high level card based
On their poker play. The poker policies
Of some importance are made by
Invisible actors in upper management
And there is no Poker Room
Director where the buck stops.

As such, Ocean does not
Present a threat to
Casinos, like Borgata,
Bally's, and Tropicana,
That do allow poker players
To earn higher level cards
(Though everything here
Changes dramatically from
Day to day, and even hour
To hour)

Give it a few weeks, they'll be begging you to come, soon enough.

I have a hard time believing this was the case. Having been involved in several business sales in another industry, the outgoing owner is typically willing to accept pennies on the dollar for their database as it is worthless to them. I find it unimaginable that the two sides weren't able to agree on a price for marketing material so valuable to one party while being worthless to the other.

Gentlemen, I did not mean to start a controversy about this...I was just trying to provide a reason to someone I know from 2+2 and my days at Revel (Carl) why someone may not have been contacted by the property prior to them reopening a shuttered property by a third party buyer. Wasn't trying to say they did or didn't have the database. I'm sure there were hard drives all over the IT department that contained info. Hope that clears things up!

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

Even if there is no flop, they rake the pot here. . Floor confirmed that they do indeed rake even if there is no flop.

When I played 1/3nl the other night it was a similar story. Mostly regs. One reg literally seat changed 5 times in the course of the game. When fish went for a smoke, all the sudden half the table goes to bathroom. When fish left, game insta broke. And it's not like this was some really tough game without the fish....

Reminded me of 2knl on Stars when I played it years ago... People battling for seats and insta sitout if fish sits out.

Re: Ocean Resort and Casino (Atlantic City, NJ)

Played there over the July 4 holiday - lines were insane: check in to the hotel was ~1.5 hours (albeit they started offering free champagne to those waiting on line), getting a tier matched player card also 1+ hours, restaurants refused to let people order take out (even the Chinese place (!!!))... hoping they resolve the logistics ASAP.

Things were also generally dirty and dusty, not really squeaky clean... like the elevator floors were really dirty / doors were dusty, hotel room floor had a bad wet spot, etc. -- understand this is a pretty new staff so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Also, the rooms are identical to the Revel rooms (I really can't tell much of a difference...)

Poker wise, played 1/2 NL for a few hours but my comp balance still says $0 - not sure what happened here. Game was decent (was mostly tourists) - did not seem reg infested. Granted, there were only 3 tables going around 11PM on the evening of July 4th. Am going back in a few weeks and hoping things are a bit smoother...

The kiosk machines are working!
They show your comps
And tier points, and I'm
Told the Players lounge
Is complimentary for
Black card holders,
(and
The glitches were fixed.)
I'm getting about 200 tier points per hour
Playing 1-2 NL,
(Which may be 3X tier points.)
I'm satisfied with the poker, the
Sports betting, the cocktail
Service, the attention, given
The tremendous
Interest in the Resort, & the food.
The poker staff is competent
And very experienced.
Highly recommended
As a tourist spot for
The poker player and family
This Summer!
