I posted a complete Trip Report in the
Atlantic City General Discussion thread because I jumped to the Golden Nugget for a tournament but thought I would repost the relevant Ocean stuff in here (and maybe correct a typo or two, haha!)...
My free rooms in AC have dried up. This is not unexpected since people who put in way more hours than I do at higher stakes also have trouble getting rooms. However I was able to tier match my CET platinum card that I have only because I have the Total Rewards Visa card and I dropped a hundred bucks screwing around on blackjack at Ocean which allowed me to keep my status for a while anyway (I quickly lost it at the Hard Rock but until they have poker I am unconcerned).
I took advantage of a free room in Sunday night. Got there around 5:30 and check in was a breeze. I thought that the rooms when they were Revel were the best in the city. The amenities are sparser as Ocean but the room was still nice.
We heard great things about the burger at Villain & Saint so we eschewed the cheaper Wahlburger to give it a shot. They had happy hour specials but we had to sit at the bar area to get them. We did this though it was annoying.
After a pretty good flatbread with feta, I was surprised that the server told me I pretty much had to get the burger as it came. I wanted to just get a burger with cheddar and grilled onions but that was evidently not possible? $20 for a burger and I cannot even customize it with ingredients they should have anyway?
Worse, when I decided just to get the Chef Burger (which Ms. Native also got), despite ordering it as rare as they could make it, it came out cooked all the way through. I don't send food back very often but this was unacceptable.
Being at the bar, the guy who expedited the orders was right in front of us so we lodged our complaint with him. He was apologetic and said we'd get new burgers in four minutes.
"Make it three," I said jokingly. "We really do like it rare."
Somehow they managed to have the next one not really be rare either. It was kind of between medium rare and medium, but at least it was juicy so we ate it. Honestly it wasn't that great even and I wonder how three separate people in this thread said it was the best burger they ever had.
We hit the ice cream place and the very nice lady gave the wife and I free cookies because she was a Giants fan and I was wearing my LT jersey. As a Giants fan who lives in Philly, it was one of the few times that I got something more than grief wearing it.
Went up to the room to digest and relax for a bit. Wound up crashing and getting a much later start to the gaming activities as a result, not hitting the casino floor until around 11:30 PM. Immediately I turned $20 in free slot dollars into $36 so I was ahead of the game as I approached the poker room.
I played until 5:30 AM with a couple of table changes as games broke. Some guy sitting next to me caused the floor to change the setup because he picked his nose and touched his cards. Not long afterwards he slow-rolled a guy on a four-spade board when he revealed his six of spades but only after he made sure the other player saw it did he turn over the Ace of spades for the nut flush. He did it to a nice guy and I felt terrible sitting next to this disgusting piece of crap. Didn't get into any hands with him though.
For a six hour session, it was pretty uneventful after I picked up Kings and Aces the first four hands. I never won any huge pots, never had much of my stack at risk. I never was up more than $100 or so and never was down more than $80 or so and concluded the session up $65. Not the best hourly but a win is a win. Including the slot money I was up $100.
Went back to the room and collapsed for a few hours... When I checked out the next morning I was able to use the comps I had for the play plus some I still had on the card to cover the entire resort fees for the room other than $3.89 which was nice.
I am hopeful that six hours of play at Ocean was enough to merit future Sunday rooms from Ocean. If it is, we will definitely try and make it to the shore again, especially when the weather gets nicer.
