Haha. I got a player in my home game due to him spotting that car and PM'ing me about it.

This was years ago. I haven't had the car for quite a while now. And even when I did, I only drove to work and hippie festivals.

I don't play that often anymore, but when I do, I mainly play at the Oaks.

I just went down to SJ and played Bay 101. And while it may have been a "nicer" room, I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoy playing at the Oaks.

As for the ladies at the Oaks - the only times I've seen ladies that I would imagine would be selling something, they were over in the hofbrau.

Hopefully I start playing more again

First and foremost the fact that I've never waited an hour to get into some game at the Oaks. Maybe if I just wanted to play O8 would this be a problem, but I'll play hold 'em or stud and be happy

I put my name on LHE 3/6, 6/12 and O8 and it took that long to get seated at Bay 101. That has never happened to me at the Oaks

I prefer the 2 chip SB at Oaks. I'm sure there are reasons that's a bad thing, but I like it overall for the game

When i finally got a seat at 6/12 it looked to me like there was at least $1 getting raked every hand.

Also that thing where the small blind has to pay $1 to chop. That sucks

I'll give the legup to Bay 101 on overall layout, space between tables, separation between table games and pokerz and general cleanliness.

8/16 w/kill would be another bonus if I were looking to move up from 6/12 anytime soon.

An hour is actually a pretty short wait at Bay 101. 1.5 to 3 hours is more typical in the early evening.

A dollar always, unless there's a misdeal. If there's a flop, $5 drop.

When the pot gets that big, you can't protect your hand. Nobody is going to fold anything for, like, 1/17 of the pot.

Of course, they have the highest stake games in town. The stakes attract rich flounders, and they in turn attract the sharks.

Too sugary for me. I make my own BBQ and BBQ sauce, and I deliberately make it tangy, not sugary. Not to brag too much, but the ribs and pulled pork I make on my Big Green Egg are way too good for me to eat the BBQ at these places any more.

You're right about the hot sauce though. I once brought home a plate, and my cat was begging me for a taste. I thought, "You really want some of this? OK, here you go!" He proceeded to eat every bite I gave him, even after the tears started rolling down his face!

Have you tried the brisket @ the Hayward location? It's outstanding. I'm not too fond of their ribs though.

Also, I've been dying to get a Big Green Egg or Kamato, slightly jealous ...

I've had the brisket at U & SP, but I've never been to the Hayward spot. Got it on my list now.

Just get one, you'll love it. I use mine all the time, it's well well worth the money.

I remember your being on rec.poker.gambling back in the mid/late 90s when I first started getting into poker seriously. I was getting my masters in stats & PhD at Cal, so I spent a lot of time on probability theory etc.

I'm trying to get back into playing live at Oaks these days. If you ever have a few minutes to sit around shoot the ****, I'd love to meet with you, drinks & food are on me.

Nobody needed to be gentle with me when I was flopping a set an hour.

Recently, though ... that's another story. I did get an unearned $60 today when someone called me down with a worse king high, but other than that, it's been a rough June.

Am I the only one who can't stand people eating at the table?

Half the time the food stinks. I mean literally, it stinks up the place. The worst are those wonton/dumpling things, I can smell them from two tables over. Another dish I can't stand are the buffalo wings. The lipsmacking noises people make while sucking the meat off the bone are disgusting. I'll stand up and move away from my seat during the hand if someone starts doing this.

Second, it usually slows down the game. There's one player in particular who is terrible about this. EVERY time it's his turn to act, he's turned away from the table, and has to be reminded by the dealer. Whereupon he turns slowly, leisurely looks at his cards, and usually folds in such a slight fashion that it isn't even clear he's folded.

Third, the LAGfish actually tighten up while eating, costing me money.

Many of the players eat while twisted around to the side, without turning their chairs -- who the hell wants to eat like that?

Finally, is there any decent item on the menu? I've eaten there maybe twice (away from the table), and have not been impressed. If I'm hungry enough, I just grab a bag of Fritos from the machines, or snarf some free popcorn at the bar.

PS - If you want some good, well-priced bar food, head down to Honor Bar at Hollis & Powell FTW.

I visited the Oaks a couple of times on recent trips and had a great time playing 15-30. I recommended it to a couple of SoCal regulars.

Haha, yeah, food at the table there can be pretty gross. Thankfully when I was there it was graveyard, so I didn't see it too much.

When eating, I often got the chow fun, it was pretty good. The omelets and breakfast foods never fail. The pot stickers are good for when you're drunk. I don't think they had buffalo wings when I was there, thankfully.

I once saw someone eating Cheetos with chop sticks. People made fun of him. I thought he was the smartest guy at the table.

The chow fun looks as greasy as a truck stop!

Yeah, it's quite common for people to eat those snacks-in-a-bag with chopsticks. I can't stand to handle food with my fingers at the same time I'm touching the chips and cards, so I agree, it looks smart. Part of the reason I like Fritos is that I can just pour them into my mouth without touching them, but I should do the chopsticks thing too.

I oncw saw a guy put tobasco sauce into his bag of chips and eat them with chopsticks. Very creative.
