Played there like 6 years ago, maybe more. Is there still the house cab driver guy who drives just a regular ford tauras or something still there?

^^ I don't know about the guy, but they have a dedicated shuttle van now.

So many players with jackpot fever right now. A lot of them are playing every suited trash hand. A guy on my right played 42s UTG (caught a boat on the flop), and 52s at UTG+1 (and caught a set). I saw another player raise with 43s UTG earlier today.

UTG has T3s. Capped pre-flop 8 ways. She wins a 35 BB pot with two pair. Lol.

Been watching the local 6/12 the last couple days while spectating the Shooting Star. Saw a guy raise 89s UTG and then 57s UTG an orbit later. Saw another guy limp-cap TJo. Apparently this is the new standard?

decided to go to oaks last night to play poker for my 2nd time since black friday. enjoyed the 100max game for 6 or so hours. seemed like 6 or so of the players were regs/all knew eachother. a good experience overall. games were pretty good...2-3 fish on the table at all times.

According to senior Oaks staff:

1) Oaks has no interest in running true no limit games.

2) The reason is business considerations. Fish would blow their roll in one day, and the club would lose them as customers for weeks, months or maybe forever. Which would result in emptier tables, fewer active tables and less rake.

3) There was a $200 max Emeryville ordinance but it's no longer in place. Oaks is allowed to spread true no limit.

Really? Under Emeryville Ordinance 5-5.23:

Quote:
5-5.23 Betting or Wagering Limits.

The City of Emeryville City Council shall establish by adoption of a resolution, which resolution may be amended from time to time at the pleasure of the City Council, the maximum amount of bet or wagers for the games permitted to be played in a licensed card room. No licensee or other person in charge or control of any card room operating under any license held or issued pursuant to the provisions of this chapter shall permit any person playing in any of the games permitted pursuant to Section 5-5.24 to make any single bet or wager in excess of the amount established by resolution of the City of Emeryville City Council. These betting or wagering limits, as well as any house or table betting or wagering limits, shall be clearly posted in order to give patrons adequate notice of the rules relating to wagering.

(Sec. 2 (part), Ord. 98-011, eff. Jan. 1, 1999)
So the limit is set by resolution of the City Council. Did your source say when/if the City Council passed a new resolution? I browsed through the minutes of the last several meetings (including the annual resolution for renewing the Oaks' license), and I didn't see any change.

I don't have any more info than what I have posted. I guess it shouldn't be too hard to verify the limits situation with the City of Emeryville? I think this info would be open to the public.

I saw something interesting in your post.

"These betting or wagering limits, as well as any house or table betting or wagering limits, shall be clearly posted in order to give patrons adequate notice of the rules relating to wagering."

The only place I've seen limits posted is on the the tablets attached to $100-max and $200-max tables. I haven't seen a paper notice posted anywhere in the club but I guess posting them on the tables is clear enough.

Have you considered the possibility that it is prominently posted but that you haven't looked very hard?

I have not looked very hard, in fact I have not looked for it specifically at all. Have you seen it? If you have, let us know where and I'd love to look at it

Hey guys. I'm from the bay area and never knew oaks card club existed until recently.

As of now I'm playing alot in the Horshoe near Chicago, but will be back in the bay for the summer.

Are there 2/5NL games running normally at Oaks? And anyone know what the highest stake NLHE games they have there?

Edit: Just decided to call them myself and do my own research. Apparently they don't have NLHE? WTF. How disappointing...

That's really disappointing. So in other words 200-max which is just a standard 1/2NL cap is there highest game similar to NL (which ironically is the lowest stakes at any normal standard casino lol).

Do you guys know any other locations in the bay area that offer NLHE?

I've heard of the Matrix in SanJose, and Lucky Chances in SF, anywhere else?

Sounds like you wanna play higher? No problem. I got 5/10 true NL at Lucky Chances and Bay 101 for you. Have fun

I must've heard this story 20 times from 20 different people. I hope I got all the details right since I wasn't actually here at the oaks to witness it.

6:30 Thursday morning

Guy playing blackjack grabs 15 white chips out of the corporation's rack and a few hundred in chips from the dealers rack and starts walking away. Someone tells "stop him!!"

Perp starts jogging towards the poker board. Boomer and kingfish stands up to block his way to the door.

The perp tackles kingfish to the group. Kingfish is on the ground on his back. Boomer steps aside. It's not his job to stop the guy right lol?

Perp gets outside thru the main entrance. Trevor the dealer is smoking outside and starts chasing the guy but couldn't kept up. The perp gets away.

Later, a lady walks in and gives the chips to the cage. She said some guy paid her 800 to cash out the chips.

Mods, feel free to censor the non-famous employees if y'all feel it's inappropriate.

Story is false. Such a thing is impossible at Oaks, the pinnacle of civility. /sarcasm

P.S. Wtf are those armed guards getting paid for? Wait, nevermind they're there to collect their wage not risk their lives. Sorry, I IZ SLOW.

Frankly, **** Oaks. I don't know why one would want to play at a place where most staff are somewhere on the neutral-to-dicks scale, very heavily skewed towards dicks as are most players. A place in an unsafe neighborhood with a history of crime against patrons.

Why? Softer games? No, games are soft elsewhere too. Lowest rake? Bleh, rake is not significantly higher elsewhere and other places treat you like a welcome customer rather than an annoying fly who's for some inexplicable reason beneath them. And other places have true no limit which Oaks refuses to have because their "ghetto" clientele would go broke too fast.

**** Oaks. How about that?
