So, maybe my sarcasm meter is actually broken, because this is where we draw the line around here. Not because race offends me, but we're going to get into it here. "Speculating" on the race, creed or color of criminals isn't the sort of discussion we have here. Go get posts reported in a politics sub-forum.

Purplebliss is mad because in some thread (possibly this one) he was arguing with three Oaks 30/60 players about how dangerous it was to play 30/60 at the Oaks.

Just to clarify, I only fault the floor people for failing to accommodate me after the theft; I don't think there's anything they reasonably could have done to prevent it.

And without going into the details, I assure you that this was not some kind of armed robbery. I was not accosted in the parking lot by "homies" with knives or something. I'm pretty sure I wasn't in danger at any time. It was a routine phone theft that could have happened anywhere.

Finally, I don't think anybody here has ever stated that the Oaks is the safest place ever put on the earth. But it's safer than it is in some folks' racist fever dreams, for sure.

Does the Oaks have a big dolphin water fountain in the front? That's how you can tell the classy places.

Nope. Neither does it have glass-walled fish tanks that you pass by to enter the gaming area.

MAPoker, you might not have known this but because Oakland is such a infinitely enlightened, infinitely multicultural and infinitely progressive city its police department hasn't responded to most non-violent crimes for years. That includes theft of your precious iPhone. In fact, even grand theft is not responded to. You were shocked and dismayed they didn't show up in time to extract your iPhone from "da guyz". I'd be shocked if they ever showed up.

http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local...-98266509.html

Another thing you seem to be quite naive about. You said you never felt you were in danger. But you were. When "da guyz" spotted you and realized you tracked them down - you were in danger. You should be glad they didn't come over for a little "talk". If you think they wouldn't shoot someone over an iPhone - you are wrong. You are so naive. Dat Sherlock Holmes ish you tried to pull be mad risky dawg.

It's important for readers of this thread to be well aware of the security situation at Oaks, in Emeryville and very nearby Oakland - and not be naive.

A final quick reminder that I'm not much for moderation. I think everyone's made their point that Oakland isn't the world's safest city. Let's get back to the inside of the card room.

I generally enjoy playing in a bunch of different rooms just to check them out and ran over here on a weekday during the day to see what the fuss is about. Played 6-12, game was good, I ran horribly, nobody got raped (except for me). The neighborhood is nothing special. You know what sucks? The parking.

How's discussing the security realities of the club and its locale less relevant and less important to patrons than discussing the intricacies of the sauce used in fish chow fun served at the club's restaurant?

The topic of security, location, and neighborhood has been covered. I've said clearly, and I'll say it again, we've identified the line at which the topic ceases to be about the safety of the room and started to venture into a social discussion -- a topic which is best discussed elsewhere.

If you feel you have more to say on the topic of security at the Oaks, please do so. Just keep is anti-social (so to speak).

If you wish to discuss moderation in this forum, use the moderation thread.

Do you realize that AB, MA, and I all live IN Oakland, in addition to being regulars AT the Oaks?

If there's anyone here who's being naive here ...

And in Oaks news, they just lowered the jackpot requirement to four players in a hand (from six). I don't know why there's any requirement at all, but there you have it.

I've also heard rumors that they may increase the rake in the near future, but those are strictly rumors, AFAIK.

I'm guessing so that it's harder for the players to collude to hit the jackpot. I.e., if anyone has a gutshot to straight flush, they signal and check it down or something.

I'm very surprised purplebliss has not been banned yet. He is so disconnected from the reality of live poker that it's frustrating to read any of his posts.

When did this happen? Does this mean the drop for five players will no longer be a dollar?

It started yesterday (Wednesday, 2/27/13).

For the time being at least, the drop structure is what it always has been. I played short for a while today in both the 15-30 and 30-60 LHE games, and for both games the drop was $1 for five players or less dealt in.

Damn. You beat me to it.

(I was tempted to mention this thread to Callipygian today, but I really don't like talking about 2p2, even in a non-strat context, at the table.)

This is one of the funniest threads I've read in a long time.

As far as the rake changing, officially not. To the contrary, I noticed dealers yesterday were taking $3 drops for six player games. But I saw no official announcement regarding this.

The lowered jackpot requirement is good for the house imo. For example, the 100 spread played 4-handed for hours. This game always break when players realize they aren't jackpot eligible. We're now 7-handed with no chance of breaking.

In the long term maybe not.

Thr cynic in me is skeptical about the motivations for this change. I suspect business is dropping and this is an effort to get people to play short more often.

Keep in mind that the jackpot costs the Oaks very little. Roughly it should be 25 cents per hand.

I followed this link and read some of the thread. In it, someone references a "Eudamic Pie". Now, I like to learn at least one new thing every day, so I looked it up.

Turns out, I think, the poster meant "Eudaemonic Pie". It's a book about of group of Banana Slugs who used miniaturized computers in order to solve casino roulette games. Semi-fascinating.

Soooo... yeah, check that off my list today..

Dear Oaks dealer(s),

When I see you outside of the Oaks and say hi, it's okay to say hi back. I'm not looking to hit you up for money or hit on you or even engage in any conversation lasting longer than 10 seconds.

I'm not going to tip more or less, just thought it weird that you clearly recognized me and deliberately looked away.

I'm not that ugly.
