Many people support this issue, but for some reason 85% of the House of Representatives are against it.. Here is an article from Sunday that puts a few things in perspective, but there is still a long road ahead. Locally, it seems to be widely accepted for the most part with the select few that say it will only attract problem gamblers and crime.

Problem gamblers are going to gamble.. Why keep good hard working people from doing something they want to do for fun with their own money? Also, why turn down an opportunity that would decrease the unemployment rate and pump money into a struggling economy?

Yes, and they've had for years. All the 1/2 and 2/5 NL you want each day.

WSOP-Circuit comes to back to North Carolina April 3rd. Cash games will be very busy during the Circuit Event

WSOP-Circuit Harrahs Cherokee April 3rd

Last I heard, another company had bought the land and they are building there. I don't think the casino is going to happen, unfortunately.

Does anyone know if the new Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino will have a poker room? How many tables?

If they do, I hope it's in the middle of the gaming floor so we can benefit from the walk-by traffic. Their casino on the Qualla Boundary lost all that walk-by traffic when they moved upstairs. That loss really made a big difference.

I heard they weren't having poker but maybe someone has heard different.

Seems like they would want to have one. One of the main reasons they gave for building the casino was to attract more ATL traffic. There are a whole lot of poker players in the ATL. On a weekend visit, most will probably come with their wife/hubby/girlfriend/boyfriend etc.… those tag-alongs are gonna drop a bundle in the pits and on the slot machines during an all-day (night) poker session.

Maybe it will be possible to get a weekend room at the new casino without having to make a reservation a year in advance. Cherokee is always booked up.

Does anyone know what brands of food will be available at the new casino?

Do not mean to hijack this thread, but it seems like if you enjoy tournament poker, you are stuck with travelling. Unfortunately that has gotten much more expensive over the past several years. Where are people travelling to and how are they keeping their costs down? While Cherokee will host two WSOPC events this year, it is still a long slog from Raleigh Durham area. Horseshoe opening in Baltimore and Maryland Live are two options, even the short hop form RDU to BWI is getting expensive.

Still waiting on the federal government's approval but at least there is still a possibility.

Solid day for North Carolina poker with the National Championship Series being held in July/August. Only adds more exposure, hopefully Cleveland County comes soon!

Spoke with the guy that runs the financials for the group that is pushing for this Casino. He said one more step and it should be a go.

As someone that has traveled, including out of country, for the past 3 years, I'm very PRO this Casino. Since it's a HardRock I'm like 90% positive there will be some sort of poker room, unlike the Valley River Casino Cherokee has built.

That is great to hear. Hopefully, it will happen sooner than later. There is a large poker community around the area that would love to have a poker room/casino closer than Cherokee.

Would %100 go to the Charlotte casino vs Cherokee. The drive from Greensboro is grueling. Was hoping it would be a Harrah's casino, so my points would transfer, but I'm okay with a HardRock Casino.

So is it positive that the new Harrah's in Murphy, NC will not have poker? I thought they were trying to get a casino AND poker room closer to Atlanta.

Last thing I heard was no poker. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure they won't have a poker room.

Do any Charlotte area 2+2'ers know if the Kings Mountain Hard Rock deal is dead? It's one of the things I google every 6 months or so and I couldn't find anything new about it since last summer.

People around Kings Mountain still talk about it but nothing set in stone. Most people in the area make it sound like it is a "when" not an "if" though.
