Does anyone know if the events #1-4 are 1 day events?

I heard that fv is only spreading 5 10 plus for a week starting Sunday. Is this correct and does anyone know how many games to expect.

Fallsview will probably still have a few 2/5 games all week. Also, Casino Niagara will have a few 2/5 tables. They are warning people that lists for this game will be long because of the limited number of tables available for cash games.

The FV load-out at peak time will probably look something like this:
5 of satellite tables, 3 of 2/5NL, 6 of 5/10NL, 2 of 10/25NL, 1 of 25/50NL

Anyone going to be playing the $100 PLO tournament at Seneca on Thursday? I think I'm going to play it. I played it last month and it was really soft with a lot of people who never played PLO before.

Anybody see the WPT final table? I was there for the bubble and no known pros were on the final table so I left. How was the action on the table for the weekend?

I saw the final tables of the other two Events where there was surprisingly a lot of deal-making. Did the WPT Main Event also have unofficial deals?

To those who know, what is the experience of crossing the border like in either direction? Are there typically long delays? Are there peak traffic times that have longer delays than others?

Feedback appreciated.

Last weekend (saturday afternoon) when i was on the canada side, no wait for the border. There are sites with traffic cams and live wait times, check those out before you go (also a live feed in the lobby of casino niagara)

Rainbow bridge rarely has a line. Other then weekends it's usually less then 15 mins in either direction.

I only played in a few, but the $500 got like 98 runners or something and the $300 got 102.

I believe satellites run every weekend, probably giving about 3-4 seats away every weekens

Satellites do run every Friday and Saturday night, guaranteed. (Guaranteed meaning 8 cash game players get a free entry to be used that night for the satellite. Drawing for that is at 8pm) Once you get closer to the tournament, the satellites tend to blow up. Some of the satellites for the last series drew 50-60 runners the couple of nights before the main. Typically event turnouts for the winter series at Seneca draw a bit higher than the one being run in the fall. I wouldn't expect anything less than 150-175 for the main event. The wrinkle this year is the acceptance of 18-20 year olds in all events being held on the balcony. Not sure what to expect for a turnout there from players in southern Ontario and the Turning Stone area that like to only play tournaments. Either way, you're getting good structures and decent fields if you make the trip up here...

Thinking of going to Seneca for one of the tournaments that start next week from Toronto, just wondering what the situation for cashing would be? If I managed to cash for a profit in one of the smaller events ($200, $300) would I be instantly taxed on winnings?

Correct. Residents of foreign countries pay a 30% withholding on all cashes in tournaments. Those who play in the regular daily tournaments insist they receive their withholdings back at the end of the tax year.

So there basically isn't any point in going? Anyone else have any input on this?

Edit *

After looking through other threads people have brought up the amount of $5,000 above the buyin for 30% to be withheld. Anyone experience playing over the boarder know if this is true?

You are correct, sir. While some US casinos don't tax you if your net winnings are not over U$5,000, Seneca is the worst casino in the entire world for a Canadian to buy into a tournament, as you will be taxed 30% on ANY winnings, including a min-cash!

Unless you have enough provable losses to LEGALLY offset your poker winnings, then you are SOL. After I got victimized myself, I will obviously never buy into a Seneca tournament ever again.

Ah that's a huge bummer, thanks for the info. At least I found out before I got there though, that would have been annoying.

The good news for recreational players in Ontario is that there will be more tournaments in this underserved market. Great Blue Heron Casino (capped at 90 seats), Casino Rama (80 cap), Brantford (80 cap) and Mohawk Racetrack all sell out most of their tournaments, so there is obviously demand for more local tournaments instead of travelling to the US to buy into highly -EV tournaments.

I wish there were actual tournaments and cash games inside the biggest city in Canada. Can't believe there is one legal place to play poker in the entire city and they don't even have real chips and cards.

How do Canadian grinders even handle the WSOP or WPT's if they instantly lose 30% of there equity in any tournament? Seems like a pretty stupid law that forces Canadians to pay the IRS but not Americans (instantly of course).
