As you mentioned, poker is pretty small potatoes, so they're unlikely to mention it at all in article like that or at any point.

That being said, most casinos in the area have poker rooms and view them as a way to draw people in to spend on other things. Who knows if one in Manhattan would have one, but I would imagine they'd only be allowed to have a specific number of machines and tables and would probably have room for a poker room. But, we'll see. It all depends on what they choose as the location, too, I would imagine

This is true, but it looks like they're just trying to throw a casino in already occupied locations, such as Citi Field and the top floor of Sack's Fifth Ave.

I'm just not too optimistic for the Manhattan locations. I would love to see Yonkers/MGM open poker, parking would be light years easier and cheaper then Manhattan - for the ppl who drive, people were complaining when Philly Live was charging $25 during game days, but don't expect to pay anything less than $45/$50+ for parking during a poker session in Herold Square...

I would be pretty surprised if all 3 of the licensed did not have some kind of poker room, so, you likely will have options.

The Citi Field option... I believe they mean across the street, which has long been talked about as a location for a casino. Obviously MSG and Saks are much different beasts. I don't understand why not just go for empty store fronts. There are plenty to choose from.

Citi field would be kinda far for me, I’d like a Times Square or city option for the third

Be careful what you wish for. A prime location like Manhattan, where I live and could get to midtown in 20 minutes, might bring $10 rake like another casino near a city up north.

The amount of fish and crazy ass play that would most likely consistently transpire would make it very worth it lol. I say fish as in I’m probably a fish myself, but if guys just start betting too crazy id buckle down a little lol

When all the other rooms see that it hasn't effected their room traffic, hopefully they don't decide to double their rake as well. Sadly, recreational players don't have any problem with it and I don't see 5 max surviving too much longer.

Probably still cheaper than driving to AC and staying in hotels though.

A good chunk of people who would be playing won’t even know what rake is

While that would still be money, a casino would literally be printing money with tourists etc. Not nearly as many tourists gonna go all the way out to citi field to gamble

Yonkers and Queens are odds on favorites to just expand the existing casinos, which is why I’m cautiously optimistic Manhattan may actually happen.

There's two major obstacles to overcome with Manhattan.

I don't think it's a stretch to say the locals in Manhattan would be against a casino. I believe there would be a TON of grassroots community resistance. The argument mitigating this is the extreme damage Covid has done to the Manhattan economy. There's a real argument that a casino around Times Square for instance will bring people back.

Two, and somewhat related to the above, is there's a reason the existing slot rooms are in Queens and Yonkers. Poor people have much less political power than rich people. So path of least resistance is not Manhattan. Brooklyn maybe?

All of that said, I'm also praying for Manhattan. I'm in Manhattan often enough, would love to make poker part of the trip.

Nothing would have the tourist factor like Manhattan but the air traffic through JFK gives Resorts World a huge boon

Really? Not saying you're wrong it just surprises me, not that I'm a slots guy but the thought hasn't even crossed my mind in maybe 80 flights to/from JFK to stop off there.

I think they would have to do a lot to change what it is now to make it more attractive but the opportunity is there. Table games and poker, a club, comedy and music shows, a hotel, spa, beautify the immediate area a bit, magically clean up the A train or have a nice shuttle bus or ferry to and from the city. That's a tall order for sure but conceivably doable and I think probably worth it. I don't do a ton of flying myself but I always imagine the thought process right now is "JFK is in a desolate area surrounded by neighborhoods I've heard are scary, get me outta there to the real city asap, and F my life if I get stuck there longer than I planned." Gotta change that lol

LOL. Yes can't say I've spent a ton of time anywhere near there other than a bit in Ozone Park.

That's what I meant that the airport traffic would be good for Resorts World, definitely not suggesting Resorts World and the 3rd license go to a near JFK location lol. Although some might argue Citifield is close enough to Laguardia for that to matter.

Empire + Resorts World + Manhattan definitely makes the most sense to me. *Crosses Fingers and says Brooklyn*

If the third ones citi field I’d probably just go to
Yonkers mostly. Bk seems like an unlikely possibility imo. But who knows, I think someone posted on the last page about bidding starting in March, maybe we’ll know more then?
