Guess it doesn't really mean much, but it does feel like this year will be the year for online, or so I hope.

https://www.thecity.nyc/2024/01/11/c...mmunity-board/

Do you think community boards that go along with the "fast-track" zoning legislation gain a significant advantage for the proposals in their area? I kinda think not but interesting to see some are in favor

The legislature's usual MO is to stuff everything into the budget, which is due by April 1. But the session lasts through June. So if it's going to happen at all this year, it'll be in the next three to six months.

I saw this on the news yesterday, Mohegan Sun is proposing an underground (literally under ground) casino on the east side in the 40's.

At the end of the report the reporter said "we're still years away from casino's coming to NY"

Probably technically accurate since 2025 is almost definitely our best hope and longer is likely.

I can’t find the article now but I saw something that said the community resistance to the east side proposal was a little more emotional, people screaming about blood money and such

I live in Stuytown and I'm on "Nextdoor" and in the last two weeks, noticed people posting to show up to a community board meeting about the proposal on Monday. I'm going to be at the Borgata, or I would go.

People are saying so many ridiculous things about what it's going to "bring" to the area so I've been keyboard warrior'ing it over there LOL

Article with the blood money comment, although it doesn't really make any sense lol

Bill for online officially filed

But then here's this guy saying less than 50% Hochul includes it in her budget

And the reason doesn't even really make sense. No one who would be involved in passing a law is involved in the casino licensing process. Multitask they may not, and once passed, rolling out legal online gambling in NY could go the way of rolling out legal pot (and downstate casino licenses), but the tasks at hand belong to separate groups.

I would imagine if they did get online poker it would probably be run by RW and not be on anyone else's network with sub-optimal software, but that's just me.

I know NJ is (or at least was originally?) limited to the operators of B&M casinos in the state, and the regs have a boatload of tech requirements. That seems like a reasonable answer to the fear that it'll cannibalize in-state B&M revenue, and would still open it to a variety of operators who already know what they're doing to establish their own in-state operation or partner with someone who can. (And some number of those have to have plans in place already.)

As I understand it the newly proposed bill includes a ton of potential operators including the B&M casinos and all the sport book operators.

No mention of online gaming (or the casino licensing process) in Hochul's presentation of her budget today, as expected. Not sure that this means a ton one way or the other, but be a lot cooler if she did

Addabbo still confident they have a good chance to get it in the final budget by April.

Confirming his bill calls for as many as 31 operators, including all the B&M casinos, all the sportsbook operators (and Fanduel and Pokerstars have the same ownership,) as well as 3 out of state bidders

Nassau County now claims they intercepted an email that would indicate Hofstra university is colluding with Hard Rock, by trying to block Sands from winning a license for Nassau Coliseum to give Citifield a better chance, President of Hofstra has been subpoenaed by the Nassau legislature.

The Nassau executive is someone who has supported the Sands proposal throughout, so biased, but situation is still kind of funny. Unless it lowers Citifield's chance, then its not funny at all

I was thinking about the logistics of a large scale poker room right in the middle of Times Square. Can you ***** imagine the amount of panhandling and shady **** that would be going on outside of that place 24/7? I spent a lot of time in that neighborhood in my 20's and early 30's. I'm almost 42 now. I think it would be absolutely crazy here in the mid or late 2020's.

The panhandling and shady **** is already going on there. Hard to see how a casino would change that much.

Is it? Gambling, prostitution, and financial desperation all in one small area that, as you point out, is already a haven for everything bad? Not hard for me to see how it would change the place at least a little.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not arguing against it. I'd definitely be there. Tonight.

W/e. We'll see how it unfolds. It ever does. But again, for the record: I'm for as many casinos and cardrooms in the NYC area as possible. I just think it's a little naive to believe it wouldn't be a wild venue in the middle of Times Square, as some have discussed.

I'm 39 and born and raised in the city, and have lived here for 90% of my life. All of us natives and adopted NYers avoid Times Square, not just because of the tourists, but because of all the dirtbags who hang out in Times Square. All the crap you're mentioning, StackHunter, is already there

Honestly, putting a casino there would likely make the area better. Still wouldn't love going there, and hate every second I spend in TSQ, but, I'd be there 2x/week at least if it was there lol

Then you guys would clearly know better than I do at this point. In any event, it's hard to imagine that the games wouldn't be great.

I’ve said it almost to the point of being a broken record, but poker in nyc would be some of the best in the country, especially in a busy area such as Times Square. Let them do a wpt or wsop event in the city and it will break record entries

I agree I can't wait to see how nyc players represent themselves like I wonder how the games are going to be played like the feel or style of the games? Didn't think of that but SUPER PSYCHED to see how ny players are.

Casino workers union powerful enough to slow down online poker by years or indefinitely? Or small bump in the road towards inevitable legalization because the tax revenue is too much to ignore? The second one right....right?

Unfortunately this feels like as good a sign as any online is dead this year (and probably next), especially if downstate licenses are slipping into 2025. All bad news.
