I know, however, NYC casinos and a crippled AC would change that math pretty significant. At least, I would guess.

That sounds much more reasonable and I do think AC is the market that dies if they open North Jersey and NYC

AC had at least 13 casinos within a square mile when they were the only other city outside of Vegas with casinos. Now there's still like 9, where in today's world there should only be like 2 or 3 max, considering all the other casinos in nearby states.

Times have changed and it's not right to keep protecting all those casinos when there are too many down there as it is. The Meadowlands would have brought in tons more revenue for the state than AC if they would have let it move forward a few years ago. Politics at it's best.

I wonder if there's any numbers out there that estimate the percentage of AC customers are from the NYC/North NJ area. I would guess it's probably 50% or more, but that's purely a guess.

They wouldn't even need to open a casino in North NJ to put a serious dent into AC. Once the NYC casinos open, players within 60-90 minutes of there are going to prefer going to NYC over AC. The point of the North NJ casinos would be to get some of those players back in NYC.

I'll put it to you this way, I live in Manhattan. I'd much rather take the PATH to Hoboken or a NJ Transit train/bus to the Meadowlands over going to Resorts World and probably Empire City. The area near Resorts World is not nice and you have to go through some of the dicey-ist train stops on the A train to get there. Wouldn't really want to have a bunch of cash on me riding there.

^if it were in Manhattan a la Times Square would you still rather take the path to Hoboken? Or play in nyc. Without a car unless you live nearby queens and yonkers are still kinda far. Not ac far but public transportation far. Now smack dab in the middle of the city would be right at home for a lot of ppl

Yeah that definitely makes sense for people in the city. I used to spend a good amount of time in Bed Stuy, ENY, and Ozone but I'm definitely not going to be taking the A train with poker money on me lol. For me I imagine driving to Resorts World or subway to a midtown location.

Staten Island is an interesting point, I imagine most people there would prefer North Jersey over Resorts World, Empire, or a midtown location

A casino in Manhattan, basically anywhere south of 125th, would crush. One in Queens west of about 60th Street or in Brooklyn NW of basically prospect park would also crush.

It already kind of does look like Downtown Brooklyn. Look at all the national retailers with a presence there

Yeah this was my point, it's been "gentrified" for 15+ years (at least close to downtown BK, which isn't exactly what you'd call suuuuuuuuper gentrified as it is when it's next to Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens/Park Slope etc). Bill Clinton put his office there in like 2000 I think.

I lived/stayed at 123rd and Manhattan for 6 weeks in like 2010, and as an incredibly white, incredibly British guy I was fine.

West Harlem I agree, East Harlem? Not yet but it’s in the process.

At one point he wanted to build a massive casino / hotel on Governors Island. The need to take a boat over would definitely help keep the riff riff at bay.

ETA - I was wrong, he was actually against this idea when America’s Mayor brought it up

I missed it when he shared it, but this was shared on J Gary Pretlow's Twitter account, who is a state senator who has been at the forefront for gambling expansion in NYC and the state overall.

https://boardroom.tv/new-york-state-casinos-gambling/

There are several quotes in there from him. spiciest being that he estimates the new table games would open in October or November of this year. I tend to air on the side of government taking longer to get stuff done, so let's say it's around the holidays late this year probably best case scenario. However, that scenario doesn't seem all that crazy now.

Also "As of now, Citi Field, Madison Square Garden, Times Square, Herald Square, and the top floors of Saks Fifth Avenue are all candidates to be the site of what might become the highest-grossing casino in the nation."

This from the guy who's been at the center of expansion since the beginning of the upstate casinos. I'm excited to see where this 3rd one is going to go, and it also sounds like the licenses going to Empire City and Resorts World is a done deal, at $500m each

Wow that seems really promising, but I highly doubt the casinos start this year, especially for the third license. As for poker purposes, I predict that that would take even longer to set up because you’d need to dedicate staff to that and I don’t know how quick they could set that up. Also who knows what the lowest stakes would be and if they would allow for NL betting or make it some spread limit nonsense.

Also how would they implement a casino in the garden? Or any sports arena for that matter? Is there a few floors that are just never in use in these arenas?

I agree for the 3rd license, but for EC and RW, it seems possible. If not, early next year. I understand there are a lot of things that will be in motion, but these are two of the most established gaming companies in the world. If anyone can ramp up quickly, it's them. If they're paying half a billion to get their foot in the door, I'm sure they'll be itching to start seeing a return on their investment.

As for your comment about NL and spread limit, there are currently casinos in NY State regulated by the state with normal poker rooms. No reason to think that wouldn't be the case for these 3 licenses.

As for MSG, not exactly there. They do have the Hulu Theater that I'd guess they'd happily tear down if they could put a casino in it's place

Exciting stuff, rooting for Herald Square or the Garden out of those choices just for being slightly more convenient lol.

Taxing pot based on the THC percentages is one of the sillier things I've heard, but whatever

You’re right, I actually played upstate before lol, slipped my mind. So yea poker is already in place in ny so it could definitely be an option. A big tournament series in nyc would probably bring record breaking numbers

All of these locations would be ace, the Manhattan ones obv would get more random foot traffic (not sure how relevant that is to poker, but probably some), but Flushing has more space to really do something (and Queens has the best food in the world, better than midtown lol).

I worked at Times Square for 5+ years and never hated it as much as most people, though wouldn't ever be a dinner/drinks venue of choice (other than the Rum House obvs), considering soooooo many of the hotels are in/around TSQ this might be optimal for random traffic if the least cost effective.

Does it say anywhere that they're planning to include poker in the Manhattan casinos? Those locations are all pressed for space as it is, I don't see how they would need to include a poker room when they can fill their limited space with table games/slots. Our best bet is Yonkers or RW for poker.
