Wasn’t a matter of if, just when imo. Hopefully 2023-early 2024 for nyc. Poker In yonkers will destroy the ac poker scene

Seems like the gaming commission has set a December 10th date for proposals.

I'd guess that at some point next year, those getting licenses will be made aware and start preparing for the expanded games they're about to be approved to offer at some point in 2023. Does anyone have any greater knowledge if there's a date when the licenses can be issued?

This seems like the wheels are finally starting to move on the long awaited process. Giggidy
This is super, super good news.

Games in NY/Newark will be the juiciest in a long long while. Tons of people, a great economy, and tons of new casual players. What else could one ask for?

Casinos in NY/Newark will drive the final stake into AC full stop, not just their poker scene. It'll then officially become just a wretched hive of scum and villany. Maybe they could raze it and turn it into a nature preserve. :P

I'll be greedy and also ask for regulated online sites with 50 state player pools at the same time....and for at least one of the NYC casinos to be in the city, Brooklyn, or Queens.

Maybe so...but those of us on the far side of all of the worst of NYC traffic from there might still prefer to go south.

lol, now you're asking for a lot. Based on demographics I think a casino in Newark may even be better than NY.

Gotta be a way better player pool to make up for the drive though lol. I guess late night not bad but going through the city or Staten Island most times is a disaster

Gig gid dy!

I’m sure poker is the last thing they’re discussing..

It really grinds my gears that stand alone card rooms aren’t a thing.

Yeah I’m not sure how Newark entered this conversation.

There was a story yesterday that Steve Cohen wants to build a casino near Citi Field. At least that would be on an existing subway line.

I would be able to do day trips to east rutherford… but even though there’s 8 closer casinos than AC to me I still like to make the trip a couple times a year.

AC just hits different.. it’s more of a vacation feel for me (albeit it a cracked out motel type feel but I feel like I’m on vacation)

I would have loved poker there its a quick trip from a lot of places in NYC and NJ.

Imo ac isn’t even bad like that. Especially if you’re exclusively in the resorts/casinos. Borgata gets packed on the weekends. And yea once they put casinos near nyc I’ll still venture out there once in a blue

Does anyone have an update on the bid process/where things lie with getting an NYC poker room?

Last I heard was was early December several casino operators submitted responses to the state request for information, their responses/proposals have basically all been redacted so we don't know any details on what they're proposing, but that early step towards full proposals is under way.

Interesting detail I also heard is that several smaller boutique operations are being proposed as well in the city. Not sure if that's likely to go but it's an interesting idea.

With sports betting approved to go live January 8, I wonder how that impacts what happens next with the casino licenses, and online poker in the state.

Gov. Hochul wants to accelerate the process.

Hochul wants to clear the way for casinos in New York City and the surrounding region, and she wants to do it fast.

In 2013, New York voters approved a change to the state constitution that would allow up to seven private, full-fledged casinos statewide. But an accompanying state law prohibited those casinos from being placed in New York City and surrounding counties until 2023 – unless the casino operators were willing to pay a big penalty to upstate casino owners.

Hochul wants to speed that process up. Her budget calls for ending the moratorium on New York City casinos early and getting rid of the financial penalty.

That would allow Hochul’s administration to begin seeking bids for its final three casino licenses this year.

I've been waiting to hear news about this, because I thought she might try something like this and they just released the budget.

This is big news, and I think she has the political capital to get it done. Not that it wouldn't have happened in 2 more years if she didn't push it through, but we could be looking at NYC area poker rooms this year. Amazing

I dunno about this year... It's probably April or even July before the state's end of the process can start to move. It has to make it into a bill and get and then get passed (I don't know whether it would have to be in the budget with its 4/1 deadline or if it could be separate later in the term), then regs have to be written and bids sorted. And if the licenses go to operators who actually have to build something...
