Yonkers and queens will be close enough to have poker people and randoms play poker. Manhattan will have everybody and their mama playing cards lol

I agree, it's almost a guarantee they won't due to limited and expensive space per square foot.

For some players the poker people are the easiest to play against, randoms are all over the place sometimes and could be harder to read but I've yet to see the word poker associated with any of the proposed rooms or racino restructures as of this writing.

It’s an afterthought right now, but once things start happening I don’t see why at least one of the spots won’t include poker. If they really don’t that would be disgusting lol.
Poker players like grandpa playing AK or 10s+ that you can read like a book? Sure but not entertaining for me. Give me the random who can blast $1000+ with air or a weird hand any day of the week

NYC developers eyeing casinos for Hudson Yards, Times Square, Willets Point, Coney Island

https://nypost.com/2022/07/24/nyc-de...-coney-island/

“New York City developers and gaming operators are putting their chips on the table in a frenzied bid for the right to open local casinos, including in Times Square and Hudson Yards, The Post has learned.

Some of the other sites being eyed are Willets Point near the Mets Citi Field ballpark in Queens and Brooklyn’s Coney Island, according to sources familiar with the plans.”

Lol and here's a fun what-could-have-been.

Madison Square Garden held talks about moving to Hudson Yards

Quote:
No agreement was reached earlier this year because Garden executives didn't like the plan
put forward by The Related Cos., Hudson Yards' developer, to build a new arena atop a casino.

"We rejected that proposal," an MSG representative told Crain's, describing Related's idea as "unworkable."

MSG walked away from a better relocation plan ten years ago (in the west side of the post office building, IIRC) and spent millions renovating instead.

Though it's hard to argue with declining to pin their future on a hypothetical casino which, if it doesn't come to fruition, leaves them with an arena in a desert.

Hudson yards is pretty nice, wouldn’t be the worst spot to have a room in a high rise overlooking the river

Hudson Yards would be a great location. I could take the 7 straight there.

Until I see the word poker in any press release or proposal I'm only taking these things with a grain of salt. I can picture everyone waiting for the new casino to open up only to find out there's no poker. Parking would also suck at hudson yards anyway.

Parking? Lol

My old office was near Hudson Yards for a while, underrated area especially if you live off the 7.

Who drives into Manhattan anyway?

Yeah for people who live outside the city, otherwise it's a city bus or two to port authority, and I'm not gonna start waiting for 3 busses after a long poker session, I would just drive to PA instead.

7 train takes you to Hudson Yards from Grand Central/Times Square, or you can walk easily from Penn.

I’d park at port authority. Or in jersey and take the ferry to 39th st.

I come from NNJ to PABT, if I took the train to penn it's a lot longer commute. I would rather just drive to PA an hour and 15min door to door, unless the games dry up when NY opens.

That's a good idea and that's where I always park since it connects right to the tunnel, it would suck paying 45 bucks plus a few bus fares and tunnel that's like 65 bucks just to go play if it was at Hudson Yards and I drove in.

Yeah fair enough, but I don't think that a Manhattan casino will struggle for customers.

*edit* - I mean even with tough expensive parking.

When I lived in Queens I would absolutely have rather taken the 7 train to Hudson Yards than go all the way to AC/Philly, obvs from NJ it's different. Prob from lots of Westchester it's easier too.

Out of three options and all the poker demand at least one will cave in and put a room. Especially with all the space queens has. Now I could believe it could take longer to set up hiring staff and training them specifically for poker. Especially if you like to play other variations of poker

poker demand isn't the issue. that's clearly there. the issue is how much demand can they get for pit games and their ripoff slots.

A good poker room would have the best games in the country, but it's not a given, at least not at first.

I could see a poker room not being up day 1 the casinos become a real casino, but queens has more than enough space to
Implement a poker room, probably have it be gigantic if they really wanted

I wonder if MGM would even want a poker room in Yonkers, it would kill their other room at the Borgata. They were my only hope for a room.

I dunno, if somewhere else opens a room in NYC environs they will likely want to compete, seems like they've been losing some share to the three Philly rooms already and a competitor in NYC would help speed that up too, they would need to do something.

I am sure they know the AC market will be shrinking, big time, in the next couple years. I am sure they (MGM) also want to recoup as many of those players as they can, as well as gain new ones.

I do think that we are all overstating that these theoretical casinos would not have room for a poker room. There are a lot of dead spaces in casinos, I am sure they can find the room if the will is there. That being said, I don't think it is an absolute given that any of them will have poker 100% at this point.

I suspect 2 of the 3 at a minimum will, but no one knows anything at this point for sure. Either way, Resorts World and Empire City are going to be the only games in town for at least two or three years, and I think they are the most likely to offer poker. I would be very surprised if both didn't, just to compete with the other.

They’d be losing out on millions, along with the hypothetical millions which poker players would put into slots and other amenities in the casino

Depends how many people they could draw in to play their pit games and slots -especially in Manhattan which probably won't have as much space as the other places
