Oh so now you are going to tell me that Viejas in Alpine doesn't do any business as well?
I can't help but get sucked into this one lol.

The nearest neighborhoods to Resorts World:
- Howard Beach
- Ozone Park
- South Ozone Park
- Richmond Hill
- South Jamaica
- East New York

Howard Beach is safe, other than that, which of those neighborhoods has a lower violent crime rate than midtown Manhattan? Or are you using some other measurement of safety?

As to your point about walking around after dark carrying a roll, no matter where the casino is you should never be idly walking anywhere with significant money on you. You should be quickly moving to your transportation to either a bank or your home and in Midtown there is a bank or a cab less than a block from you at all times, and if you have to take the subway the subway in Midtown is infinitely safer than the A train by Resorts World.

Plus you could have $10K in your pocket and in Midtown most likely there's someone within a block of you carrying more at all times.

All that being said I respect your right to be delusional and hope to see you in my games at Resorts World when the time comes

I may be the wrong person to chime in, but I had some significant money on me getting home to my apartment in Manhattan Sunday morning. I took the subway in midtown home. I am skinny and short, so anyone could jump me easily.

Banks are closed pretty much all times on the weekend except for Saturday mornings, and half the branches are not even open Saturdays anymore, so you can't really depend on banks to deposit money unless you want to stand at an ATM inserting $100 bills in the middle of the night. (The night deposit box at my local branch is not working, not sure if it is available other places, but I guess that would be an option if you have the right type of account). The best hope we would have is if they had boxes to leave your chips in, and withdraw your money during the daytime. To be a successful poker player I think you have to be a little fearless. That fearlessness I have may end up being my downfall one day. I even used to walk the Atlantic City boardwalk with a lot of money on me as well in the middle of the night, not smart, I know...I don't think trying to be safe is delusional though...

You can always see if casino will cut you a check. Then you can deposit via your phone with a pic usually.

That only takes care of leaving. Though you can also probably cash a check at the casino and thus intheory be cash free to and from. Or I guess you co7ld use a deposit ATM inside the casino. Also.

+1

All this talk about Manhattan being unsafe... it's way safer than many big American downtowns. There's safety in numbers, and there's always people around in Manhattan.

All of that being said the worst part about getting mugged is the actual getting mugged part, not the losing $5k while getting mugged part.

I agree with basically everything you've said, I don't think trying to be safe is delusional. I think that thinking Midtown is more dangerous than the area surrounding Resorts World is delusional.

Muggers are looking for two things, easy marks and people likely to be carrying significant cash and valuables. Everybody is an easier mark leaving Resorts World relative to a Midtown location because Resorts World is in a desolate location. As someone else said, power in numbers, you're less likely to get mugged in a more populated area. And while being spotted leaving the casino puts you on the map as potentially having cash on you, on a Midtown street even in the middle of the morning there are probably multiple people walking around with $5k-$10K on them, it's not like you're the only person with money whereas leaving Resorts World the only person on the street carrying that sort of cash is coming from the casino.

Personally I've been riding the subway alone since I was 10, unless the amount of money I'm carrying doesn't fit in my pocket without showing, I'm perfectly comfortable taking the subway any time of night. If you stay on your Ps and Qs, eyes up, stay near the booth on the platform and the conductor in the car if you're really concerned, you're really not super likely to get mugged. The rise in crime rate has gotten everybody worked up but it's not the the 70s-90s lol.

If I have to leave the casino in the middle of the night with significant money from Resorts World or Midtown, I'll be jumping in an Uber, and have no concerns with either location, but thinking Midtown is more dangerous than Resorts World is just silly

There is not, but 3 casino licenses are likely being granted this year or next and Resorts World is very likely to get the nod for tables games and hopefully that includes poker.

Nah the $5k would be the worst part lol. You’re telling me between getting mugged for $20 or having $5k fall outta your pocket that getting mugged it worse? No way lol

You'd rather get shot/stabbed than lose $5k?

Agree but that is not germane to a poker or casino discussion. It applies to everyone who gets mugged.

As far as I am aware, you cannot give most casinos a check and they will give you chips for poker. I guess you could wire the money ahead of time, but that takes too much effort, and the money could get lost in transit. Also, not sure if they cut checks for chips.

I am guessing they'd be fine with a certified check

Most people here have walked through Atlantic City or Las Vegas with thousands of dollars, midtown Manhattan is not sketchier than those places.......

Here you can get approved to cash checks. They will running a credit check and set a limit for you. Then you go to main cage to cash check. They give you cash. You can buy chips in poker room.

Of course there are also ATMs and CC cash advances but fees can be killer.

If you cash in enough chips at main cage they will pay you with a check. Each one may have a min check size but they do it. I have only done it once for about $6500

The bill also clarifies 28 February 2023 as the expiration date of the seven-year restricted period enforced from when the initial upstate casino licence was awarded, meaning that the downstate licences may be issued from this date.

If I read this correctly I guess it means it is not going to be expedited and the earliest we will get casinos is longer than we all hoped. Even if they are immediately awarded when allowed if will probably take a while to open.

I'm not sure how much of that is about current activity vs just the currently legislated state of things.

If it has to be in the budget, that's due by April 1, so there's going to be a lot going on in the next month and nothing is definitely in or out until it's sent to Hochul.

If it doesn't have to be in the budget, the session usually goes until the end of June.

They might dead that 2023 date and grant licenses earlier. That’s the whole discussion. As for the laws and timetables I’m not sure.

I am going to be traveling to Stamford, CT at the end of the month - flying into LaGuardia. I am wanting to play a little but dont really want to take a 1 hr 40 min uber up to Foxwoods or Mohegan... is there anywhere closer to NYC that is safe/legal to play? Not planning to rent a car so just going to uber around.

If you’re not willing to head to Foxwoods/Mohegan, then you can try Resorts World Catskills in NY but I think it’s about the same distance there as Foxwoods/Mohegan.
