Higgy I'll be heading up this week. I see a PLO tourny sched for tuesday at 7pm What kind of turn out do you get for this ? also when does the plo cash run ?

They changed the PLO tourney, it was getting 1 table every other week. Just not steady. PLO cash games have ran sporadically over the last 2 months. This last week we've had a limit HORSE game a few times.

Good games and promotions though, play out there alot.

4 poker rooms around Albuquerque - 1 in Santa Fe - 1 in Ruidoso

Sandia (Abq) has 1/2 w/ 200 max buy in, also play 1/3 (300 max) and 2/5 (no max) on a semi frequent basis

Santa Ana (Abq) 1/2 game w/ $300 buy in - 3.33% rake 1 on 30, 2 on 60 3 on 90 max Runs daily, great game.

Hard Rock (abq) 1/2 $300 buy in - Runs weekends as a rule, not very frequent.

Route 66 (abq) same as above but pretty sure it's $200 max buy in @ 1/2

Buffalo Thunder (santa fe) and Inn of the Mtn Gods (ruidoso) both spread NL , but you'd have to check with someone else, as I mainly stick with Albuquerque area rooms. I will say that Inn of the Mtn Gods has some sick 5/10 NL action during the summer.

I may end-up living in Santa Fe...so it sounds like Buffalo Thunder would be the only poker room within 30 minutes. Can anyone comment on the 2/5+ action there?

$3-6 or $4-8 HORSE has been going just about everyday this past week or so and the HORSE tournament is on Saturday night at 7pm, it just started a couple of weeks ago and seems to be running at 3 tables currently. $40 Buy-in with 1 optional $40 Add-on.

You can call the room directly at: (505) 867-6540 to see what's going on before you head over and get your name on the list.

Any other questions regarding poker in NM, just PM me and I'll point you in the right direction to gather all the info you need.

As pointed out above, we had to change the PLO tournament for now due to there not being a lot of interest in it yet. The next PLO I have scheduled is during our Winter Deepstack Series. The PLO Event will be on January 19th that week.

Wow Higgy sounds like Santa Ana Star room might be what I'm looking for. I sent you a PM. Make sure you tell me about the deep stack series.

Anyone knows when's the best time (action wise/juicy) to play cash games @ Sandia, mostly 1/2 & 2/4 NLHE?

Thanks!
I haven't played in Sandia Sunday tourney in many moons. Rounds were 20 minutes and buy in stacks were pretty small. I think they've increased the starting stack sizes though since I was there last. Those tourneys have a lot of bad players in them, very similar to very low buyin, freeroll type MTTs on PokerStars without the crazies.

I play mostly at the inn and the 1-2 nl is a 300 max buyin i believe the 2-5 is 1000 max buy in now(not totally sure) and 5-10 that only runs on saturday is no max on the buy in.

I live on the southside of Santa Fe and it takes me 25 minutes to get to Buffalo Thunder, so i go there the most. There is almost no 2/5 action, though I heard that it did run last Friday night. Typically, there is a 1/3 nl game (300 max), but even that doesn't always run. However, I was there recently and they surprisingly opened a second 1/3 table. Also, on some nights, there's a 20/40 dealers choice game that sometimes becomes 5/5 PLO or holdem, people say its the biggest game in the state, but it runs erratically and sometimes it finishes early. Beyond that, there's usually a 2/6 spread limit game and an Omaha8 4/8 game going. If you want guaranteed action, Sandia is the place to go, though it sounds like Santa Ana is starting to really pick up as well.

Does 2/5 go every night there?

From what I gather if you had to rank the rooms around Albuquerque/Santa Fe in terms of 1/2, 1/3, and 2/5 NL softness, the rooms would be (from soft to uhh....hard)

1) Santa Ana Star
2) Hard Rock
3) Buffalo Thunder
4) Sandia

Any arguments or other experiences from experienced players in the area?

You're right about Santa Ana Star being the softest NL action (1/2 only). I like that you can buy in for $300.

I think Sandia is softer than Hard Rock for 1/2 NL, one thing I dislike about Sandia is having to buy in for $200 after the game has gotten pretty deep. Also the way they take players for granted is tilting and I know causes alot of players to go a different direction when choosing where to play.

I think it goes just later in the week, but alot more often during the summer as a majority of their business comes from out of towners that go there for the horse racing and other summer stuff. Lots of Texans.

At times Santa Ana can be soft. It depends on the mix of players there. It can definitely be entertaining when you get some of the loco locals getting crazy aggressive. Sandia has the larger selection of tables so there can be some soft ones, but I'd agree that Sandia overall has some tougher tables

I think is generally the rule between all the small casinos, if there's a game going on that is an even mix of regulars to that casino, you can expect good things.

Seems like Sandia has a bigger pool of regular players that have a descent amount of aggression and enough poker skill to make it less profitable than NL games at the out lying casinos. Of which Santa Ana's runs more often.

Does 2/5 or preferably 5/10 go regularly anywhere in Albuquerque?

Not on a regular basis, unfortunately. Mostly all $1-2 NL here. Sandia will offer you more tables to chose from, and I have softer games here at the Santa Ana Star (just up to the individual player's preference of which is more important to them). Those are basically the options in Albuquerque. Wish I could have given you better news!

January 14th-21st. Sat through Friday are $150 ($130+ $20)buy-in events, Saturday the 21st is $350 ($310 + $40). The $150 events are 30 minute levels with a generous structure, starting stack is T12000 + an optional Dealer add-on ($10) for T3000.

I will see if I can get something on the website today. Or you can PM me and I'll e-mail you the info sheet with the details of each event.
