Has anyone played any of the tournaments @ Santa Ana Star or Sandia? I wonder how soft/tough they are?

I'm looking to play the daily $25 tourney @ Santa Ana, and to play the Sunday $40 tourney @ Sandia but don't know if it's profitable at all?

Anyone knows when's the best time (action wise/juicy) to play cash games @ Sandia, mostly 1/2 & 2/4 NLHE?

Thanks!

soft, do it, just try to run good. cash games are juicy at sandia especially when BBJ starts climbing and the room is full...when its up, any day of the week is good.

I see, I'm going to play in Santa Ana tomorrow (Monday), I figure there might be more entrants since most people have the day off.

I played in the Sandia tourney on Sunday and busted half way with KK vs. QQ, I think most players are passive limpers who love to see flops and then check fold post-flop, as long as you have a decent idea of how to play TAG in a tourney you'll do fine. LAG is kinda tough 'cause people just don't ever fold to just 1 or 2 bets.

I haven't been to Santa Ana in awhile, but I have gone on holidays and its true there will be a few extra people, but I'd be surprised if its more than 3 tables (though it might go 10-11 handed, yes they'll pack 'em in). Good Luck!

Lag doesn't really work. cause if you have any one call they are calling anything raise time 100 the big blind. And if they get a pair they are calling you down with it....

Very true, but I also found that it's ok to play semi LAGGY pre and be very cautious post-flop, if you're a good enough player you can maximize your profits by playing more hands IP, just value bet relentlessly when you know you have the best of it, but be ready to shut down when the situation is no longer in your favorite (i.e. when your c-bet bluff gets called).

I am going down to Santa Fe starting Wednesday. I am only 20 so I will only be playing at Buffalo Thunder. Can someone give me the details on what games to expect at the Buffalo Thunder card room starting Wednesday going through Sunday?

There's usually 2 to 4 games running at Buffalo Thunder any evening. Almost always there's the 2-6 spread limit, which is basically 2/4 limit holdem with a little extra action. Then, there's often a 1/3 nl game. Sometimes 4/8 omaha hi/lo runs either in addition to, or in place of one of the other games. Then, there's the "big game" which will either be 20/40 mixed game dealers choice (some stud, some crazy pineapple, and anything else you'd expect) or 5/5 plo/plo8. One or the other of these bigger games run on Fri/sat nights and I think on Wed nights. I haven't been there on a Wed in a couple months, but I believe this bigger game started out as a Wed thing a couple years ago and has become more regular this year, with 20/40 being more common. Either big game includes the same group of regs and everybody sits with at least $1-2K and 1k pots or larger are not uncommon. I would not play that game without at least 1K, plus another 1K behind. For the 1/3 nl game, you'll know its a soft one if there's at least 3 people sitting on $100 or less stacks and not more than 2 people with >$500 stacks. Wait times for 1/3 nl can be excruciating...consider going to Sandia if you want more game choice.

Spent Father's Day with my folks at Santa Ana and Sandia. Mom likes Omaha hi/lo, so we played the 11am tourney they run every Sunday. There was one 3-6 with half kill omaha8 game running when we arrived, nothing else. They got 22 players for the tourney, but since YOUR casino is too cheap to pay an extra dealer, they ran 2 tables of 11 and made the cutoff sitout the hand until they got down to 10. Haven't been there in almost a year, but they will typically go 11-handed in tourneys, which I don't love. Otherwise, I like going there, its a friendly crowd. Tourney was fine, though all 3 of us busted in 45 minutes. Then we went to Sandia to play 1-2nl, where I just missed the bad beat jackpot when my flopped trip aces beat opponent's flopped trip kings, Dad said he folded pocket queens on the flop, still a nice pot though, profit $300 after a few more decent hands makes up for the $200 I spewed last night at Buffalo Thunder.

nice TR, anyone play at the Inn this weekend? Can refer to my, "I put my foot in my mouth", post for some of the craziness that happened. Besides for that I booked a win all 3 sessions of 1-2 I played so overall it was an enjoyable experience.

I played the 5/10 on the 18 of June was sitting nice little chip stack till a 4 way pot came up one all inn, the guy all in flopped the bottom straight, i flopped 2nd nut straight, another guy with a flush draw, another guy in the cuttoff all called on the flop, turn carded added 4 to a straight, another bet came around everyone called, the river paired the board, went check check and the cutoff moved all in. Ended up protecting the guy with the bottom end of the straight, i folded because thought this guy had to have a full house in that spot. Didnt even see the guys cards probably had like 2 pair... Tilt after that i was still up a buy in so i cashed out and called it a day.

Would any Albuquerque guys be interested in playing a regular/scheduled low limit mix/Horse game if it ran once a week or so ?

I know Santa ana would glady schedule/cater to something like this, any of the other cardrooms would too, except sandia management is generally horrible, so Idk about them.

I was thinking 4/8? Maybe even throw in 2-7 or badugi, or both?

I'd like to find 6-7 other regular guys to get this going and make it normal, then I think it would take off from there.

Pm if interested, I'd love this and I know there are others who'd like a low limit mix game.

I get to Sandia less than once a month, but I'd play it if I were there and it happened to be running. I haven't had bad experiences with management there, so I'd think they'd go for it, but who knows.

Does 5/10 ever run at Sandia or is it primarily only 2/5?

I'm only there weekend afternoons but I've only seen the 2/5, and that only once. I think they were advertising running it (the 2/5) as a scheduled game Saturdays at 6 iirc.
