The MA casino bill has a minimum tax rate of 25% on all games from what I remember reading. However, the operator would have to reach an agreement with a host community in order to build, which may require additional taxes/fees.
As far as breaking ground, with the unlikely but somewhat possible exception of an indian tribe in the southeast, no casino will break ground until at least 2014. They just finished naming the committee and the head said they likely wont grant any licenses until at least next year. It's a long road ahead of us.

Never been to that room. NH has a 4 max bet. So cash games are limit only. prob 2/4. NH biggest room in salem on the mass border spreads 2/4 and 4/4 o8 and holdem. The smaller rooms sometimes.cant get a holdem game going, def call ahead.

NY Times Magazine just ran a great piece on the proliferation of gaming. Most incredible thing mentioned was: Take a guess which state's government takes in the most money from casinos (before you peek at the answer, go ahead and guess TEN states, I'll bet you don't come up with it):

Spoiler:
Pennsylvania, whose savvy governor at the time, Ed Rendell, knew that the casino companies will pay ANYTHING to be allowed to ply to their trade, so Rendell hardballed the crap out of them, getting them to hand over 55% of the hold (not the net profit)!!!

So if PA gets 55% of the hold of all action (not just slots), I'm not surprised a NH lawmaker turned his nose up at 40% of slots.

Is it still not known which casino company is connected to the potential Taunton, MA location?

I knew it was over 50%, i had read some article some time ago where casinos in PA were forking over 50% of the hold on ALL GAMES, slots, tables games... Thats a toooooooooooon of money! Is the casino really that profitable for the company who owns it in the end? Lets think of the overhead to run a casino.... Profit 10% of yearly income? yikes!

Neither of the two indian tribes have announced any connection to any exiting gaming company. They may go the Foxwoods and Mohegan route and operate it on their own.

Both CT casinos had help from gaming companies to start, Sun International for Mohegan and a Malaysian company for Foxwoods. Hard to open a casino without any experience.

Dragging this over from NVG...

Referendum for Newport Grand down by the RI shoreline to get table games looks to be going on the ballot for November.

Article also mentions that Twin River just north of Providence has a referendum of its own already through that will be on the ballot in November, also for table games.

Google maps puts Twin River a good hour closer to Boston than Foxwoods (its not far off from I-95), 20-minute shorter drive from Worcester (straight shot down Route 146).

If Suffolk Downs breaks ground the end of this year/beginning of next year NH is gonna be ****ed.
I was at Rockingham on Saturday evening a couple of weeks ago (veiled brag - chopped the 2pm $140 - chip leader got $1200, two other larger stacks got $1000, and other 8 of us got $815).

Usually when I'm there it's either a weekday night or during the day on a weekend. By the time I left at 10pm on Sautrday, not only was every non-poker gambling option full, there were literally dozens of people waiting just to sit down to play. I had never seen anything like it.

NH really, really blew this. Massachusetts doesn't need to be the first place (after CT) to go live in order to do well, as they have the built-in population, but I'm not sure if NH can afford to be second, let alone third after Rhode Island.

The thing with New Hampshire is all of this posturing is over getting slots, roulette, and craps.

As far as the poker community goes, poker is legal... it's just that New Hampshire has the $4 max bet stuck on it. If New Hampshire were to just uncap the limit, the rooms could become fully-functional card rooms and that in itself would bring Rockingham and Seabrook much more Massachusetts business.

As poker players, that's what we really want. Even that one small step would help.

Drop the limit cap and the ridiculous "charity" rake and I would live at Rockingham. Until that happens I won't set foot in the place.

You could drop the limit and have no rake and I still will not set foot in Seabrook again. What dump, with wanna be tough guy pit bosses and managers.

Doubt it will pass, but guess we'll have to wait it out and see the results then! That just might mean a job closer to home

I'd LOVE to play legal poker in MA or RI instead of trekking all the way down to CT.

Hell, I wish I could find a freaking HOME game around here...
