Anybody know which casino company is backing the Taunton Indian casino? I'm guessing the Indians didn't come up with $500M on their own...

I was wondering that myself...

As of a few years ago, they had some Asian investors backing them. I have no idea what the current situation is.

Pretty safe guess...
I haven't seen any announcement on this, but I imagine that they'll have several to choose from if they can actually make a deal with the town, and haven't already locked in with someone.

Well, damn. I hope that them picking Taunton 1st at least means there will still be room for one closer to Downtown Boston . . .

Taunton is in the "southeast" region, so would not compete with Boston for a license.

In Oxford county Maine we've been waiting for a Casino to open for well over a year. They have recently announced they will only offer "ultimate poker" against the dealer...whatever that is.

Its unlikely we can change anything but its worth a shot. If you are in the Tri-state area (New hampshire, Maine, Vermont -) or New England (Massachusettes, New York etc) or might just be in the area visiting and are a potential customer please show your support and ask about the inclusion of real poker tables on their facebook wall.

Any poker community support is good, but of course they'll be much more interested in local input - so if you are in the area be sure to include where you are from and be vocal about having no interest in visiting a casino without a poker area. Lets let them know there is a real demand for poker here.

I've heard some people saying that Hollywood Casino in Bangor's brand new poker room has been jumping. They only have 4 tables but apparently the wait is always so long they are planning on adding more. You would think this casino would be eager to get in on that, at least put in a couple tables!

Low roller have you mentioned Hollywood Casino in Bangor, ME? They now have 2 1/2 nl and 2 3/6 limit tables and the dealers say they will deal whatever game the players want. I believe they plan to run some MTT's in the future as well

How rural is Oxford County? A poker room needs a dedicated band of "core" players who show up every day to start games. Does this place get that sort of traffic? I have no idea, I'm asking.

Oxford County is less than 15 miles from Auburn/Lewiston, and that is the 2nd biggest metro population in the state. Its also about 35 miles from the biggest metro population. I would think that they could at least try to fun a few tables like Bangor is.

But I'm not surprised they aren't running real poker, they've done nothing but continue to scale that entire casino project down since the day it was approved.

If NH was smart, they would hurry up and pass the bill and get everything done that they need to and start building a mega resort at The Rock..

If MA gets everything up and running before NH, then NH would be silly to even enter the game iyam..

Sat. night Bangor had all 4 tables full and a waiting list of 40+ people.. I don't think Oxford would have any trouble running 6+ tables.

MGM/Mirage throws in the towel on Brimfield, MA. Smart move, no access to Mass Pike where they were, and they learned that even offering to build the roads/ramps themselves turns into a multi-generational thing when MA bureaucrats get involved. MGM/Mir not abandoning all of Western Mass, just the Brimfield spot they had picked out.

My question: with MGM/Mir, HardRock, Mohegan Sun, and Ameristar looking west; the Wampanoags in the SE, with no apparent connection to any US gaming corporation just yet; Steve Wynn and Caesars being the only real names I've heard in the Boston district...

...are ANY of these companies NOT billions of dollars in debt? Is there a single healthy US Gaming corporation, and if so, are any of THEM looking at MA?

Well- yeah, I think. Mohegan remains on some solid ground, I think? With only two locales right now- NYT article said they were solid in CT, and all reports indicate they are on track in Wilkes-Barre. (probably high debt due to recent acq/build, but still on track) alas, privately held. who really knows?
I think Wynn has good earnings, due to making all profits in Macau, and being smart enough to just run his businesses in LV in savvy enough way to remain above H20. Stock has run up to 125 area, making his PE about 25.
Caesars looks good on paper- if you believe the paper its written on. SO much of their model is built on acquisition of properties via restructuring their debt.
Its why they are a slam dunk for SuffolkDowns- they own a huge piece of their debt. Currently unprofitable for its investors due to massive write-downs and stuff.
PennNational/Hollywood has been picking off properties wisely. Todays stock is $44 with a PE ratio of 19.
Ameristar I know very little about. EPS last report was 0.17 todays price is $19.00

Being UNprofitable is a sour economy isn't the worst thing in the world anyways. Construction coasts are lower, depreciation expenses can be long-term maxed to ensure lowest margins/taxes. When the economy picks up after the elections (perhaps), now you have more ownership of your phys.plant, less debt, and more room for profit.

Agree that MGM bow-out is actually a good thing for them. Massachusetts is corrupt and impossible to do business with for a large, outintheopen publicly-held corp like MGM.
My take on this is...the Wampanoags continue to miss the boat. If you want to go in the gaming business, don't you hire someone who knows what they are doing? ala Foxwoods,Mohegan? The Wamps want to hire thugs and threaten to build here, there, anywhere, but have never come up with viable plans and serious proposals, just press releases, blurby news bits, and then disappear for a while. They wanted stuff handed to them in Fall River New Bedford area, and that just doesn't happen.
I also continue to like Plainridge for a "slots-only" site, above the 3 state-approved full fledged casinos. Gary Piontkowski appears to be playing his cards correctly, within the political parameters.

I would love to see Northeast Realty break there exclusive agreement (if it even is exclusive) with Mohegan and partner with MGM. I believe Palmer has the best, ready to go, site in the area and I would love to force the two to compete with each other, hopefully resulting in a bigger and better resort!

Great info DaveC, thanks!

NH House just shot down their casino bill in a landslide, about 200-100 vote. The local paper said opponents were worried casinos would bring crime and corruption. I commented that in that case, we should do away with state government, which also brings those things.

So frustrating. I'm a NH taxpayer. I'm going to call all my reps and bitch them out. What a bunch of morons. Of course, the governor promised a veto. But WTF? New governor next year gives possibility. Live free or die - yeah right.

Just read this article on Eagle Tribune.

http://www.eagletribune.com/latestne...-gambling-bill

Apparently a 40% cut of the slot revenue isn't enough for that guy Packard in Londonderry. While CT only takes 25% I believe. Has MA released what they plan on taking?

If Suffolk Downs breaks ground the end of this year/beginning of next year NH is gonna be ****ed.

Just wishful thinking really. However I think I did read someplace that the gaming board needs to be ready to start issuing licenses by the fall if I remember right.

Gonna be in East Topsham, VT on business in a couple of weeks and will have nothing to do after 5 PM. Did a little digging and found mention of a card room a 45 min drive away in NH called Benning Street Poker Room in Lebanon. I can't seem to find any info on the place online or in this thread. Can anyone dish? Is the place still there and worth taking a 45 minute ride to for cash games? Can anyone recommend something else near where I'll be?
