I think Rockingham will crumble to the ground before a casino bill ever passes in NH. Those NH charity rooms are gonna be ghost towns once Suffolk Downs is up and running. There will prob be a shuttle leaving Rockingham Park going to Suffolk Downs haha. Exit 2 Park and Ride most likely though.

In a low-content thread? How dare you, sir!

You could have at least put up some of the candlepin bowling videos you had linked in the OOT bowling thread. Geez.

Wow I haven't done candlepin in forever.

The only time I got to do it was when I spent the summer in Boston in 2004. Went to a candlepin alley in Jamaica Plain and had beers along with the bowling balls that you could hold in your palm. Good times.

wow...candlepins. Don Gillis. Channel 5 WCVB....what memories.

I started watching this show when Jim Britt was the host in the 1960s.
Another show on Channel 27 with Bob Fouracre had a good run in the late 1960s into the 1970s. And channel 50 in NH put on bowling as well.

I loved candlepins when i was a kid. I could beat my Dad at it. now, THAT was real fun.

First, a PC statement!! Happy Holidays

I think NH is destined for a poker meltdown unless they become proactive (basically a change in limits and games). Even with that, I do not think the clientele that frequents the Poker Room I play in all the time has the Bank Roll to sustain a Poker Room. I have made a bunch of money playing $2/$4 O8 because much of the play is so bad. Many do not know what a good starting hand looks like. If the game were PLO8, the numbers would dwindle quickly. Even with the low stakes played now, there are many who no longer play.

Casinos in Ma will probably not be convenient for me if the proposed locations are adopted, Suffolk Downs or Springfield are approximately 1 and a half hour away. Foxwoods is 1 hour and 50 minutes.

I like Foxwoods because of the games spread and in most cases the short wait to play. I have had to wait a long time with long waiting lists before. But, you can sign up for multiple games such $1/2, $2/5, PLO $1/2, PLO8 $1/2, and $5/10 O8 (my defined set of games). I do not see that happening in a Ma casino. To support this thought which may be erroneous, I would point out Casinos such as Turning Stone, PA casinos, and Ohio Charity Poker. Not a complete sample but the point is I do not believe there are many Casinos provide the breadth of games and the numbers of participants as Foxwoods.

I think expansion of this industry is great for players but in a stagnant or shrinking market it may become a circumstance of more casinos dividing a smaller and smaller market. Some will die.

I hope you all run exceptional well in the New Year except against me. LOL

Just a few thoughts and my $.02.

I like Foxwoods also, but the 2 hour drive is a killer. They are going to lose business as many MA residents, like myself, will be going to a poker room that is much closer; probably within a 45 minute to an hour drive.

I would have to think the MA casinos will cut up a nice chunk of the FW player pool so I don't think the game selection will be as good as it is now. Although hopefully the market will increase dramatically so all rooms thrive!

Question for anyone in the know. I would love to deal part-time at one of the MA casino's. Does anyone know the best way to make sure I can have a good shot of getting hired, preferably without having to go to Vegas for a month?

I know Rockingham Park in NH has a dealing school and maybe you can try going through them. Maybe try to deal there until the rooms in MA open.

Posted this in Poker Legislation also.

If MA legalizes online poker does this open the door to B & M card rooms also?

There will be card rooms inside the 3 casinos I would imagine. Or do you mean in addition to that? If so, probably not.

Thanks Lattimer, yes I was hoping for a "card barn" or two outside of the casinos to go along with the ones located in them ala CA. Still looking forward to a 45 minute trip as opposed to the 2 hours each way to Foxwoods.

I believe you can pick up a gaming certificate from an accredited university as well. Courses such as this exist which I think will put you near the front of the line. http://webapp.northampton.edu/course...=CMED&campus=% Something to look into EDIT: I thought this was Noho MA but its in PA...there may be a similar course somewhere in the greater Boston area.

Just an FYI, but my uncle lives near the proposed Ameristar Casino site in Springfield and attended the meeting a couple weeks ago with Ameristar reps who said a poker room would be likely.

Hey out-of-towner. Bob Kraft (owner of the Patriots) and Steve Wynn are teaming up trying get a casino across from Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. Residents are none too pleased nor is Boston Mayor Tom "Mumbles" Menino who would like to get Suffolk Downs in Eastie in the game.

Here are the websites to a few local papers that are carrying news on this stuff.

BostonHerald.com - Boston Herald website

Boston.com - Boston Globe free website limited info

TheSunChronicle.com - Attleboro paper

Enterprisenews.com - Brockton Enterprise (South Shore paper)

And they talk funny not us. <grin>

From MA here. Been meaning to go up to Hampton Falls NH to the poker room again. I've had the tournament schedule sitting by my desk for a couple months.

Yeah, I'm pulling for Suffolk (my sister has juice there).

Foxboro has no shot, the residents are reacting like Kraft wants to install a nuclear waste dump. You'd think that Kraft would have picked up a little "In Bill We Trust" aura washing off his head coach.

I check the front pages of the Globe and Herald websites every day (and the Eagle Tribune, my hometown paper), I'm just asking you guys to keep an ear out for any news that flies under that radar (like the Ameristar meeting mentioned above).

Speaking of the Eagle Tribune, did you guys see the Op-Ed piece they ran before the bill passed? It was supposed to be a Letter to the Editor, but it was way too long (if you've read my posts before, that shouldn't surprise you), so I submitted it as an Op-Ed piece, and to my surprise, they ran it one Sunday morning.

I read your op-ed piece...great job. Congrats on getting it in the paper.
Agree that everybody is concentrating on the "boston-based" area for casino location. Many are forgetting that the western Mass and SE Mass areas are also getting a casino as well. I think Fall River/New Bedford is really in play for a major siting, and that politics is going to dictate who, what, where.
Another intuition I have is that Rhode Island is not going to sit idly by, with the continuing increase of gambling options at Lincoln Down/Twin Rivers. They now have the interactive blackjack machines. I used to live within 3 miles of this former dump, in No.Prov., and refused to go there. I went to tracks for simocast action, and took the much longer drive to Plainridge for wagering, as well as live harness.

Politicians will continue to speak to their constituency. This state rep will as well, altho I think she has misjudged hers.

Excellent Op-Ed piece. (Your debating skills have obviously been honed to a fine edge here on 2+2!)
As you point out, saying that some states with casinos also have budget problems is confusing the cure for the cause. It's like saying that people who take aspirin have a high incidence of headaches, therefore aspirin must cause headaches.
Personally, I'm pulling for Suffolk, because it's the closest to the biggest numbers of residents (including me!) and especially tourists. (Somehow I don't think Foxboro will ever be a destination resort location.) Even if Foxboro somehow goes forward - and I wouldn't count Steve Wynn out until he says he's out, or until the ink is dry, Suffolk should have the numbers to justify the highest bid for a license. Also, a Foxboro location, in place of Boston, would impinge upon the Southern Mass. zone's market and business.
I think that the Mohegan/Palmer bid has the best chance for the western zone because of the numbers and also because of the Indian involvement. And I would guess that Fall River/New Bedford will be the third (Southern) location because of numbers, politics, and their terrible need for new jobs. Wampanoags are the wild card here. Racino consolation prize will probably go to Raynham, outside chance to Plainville.

Actually, Kraft has a tremendously positive image here. The Foxboro opposition is just visceral, knee-jerk, anti-gambling, NIMBY emotionalism at its small-town and small-minded worst.
But I'm still pulling for Suffolk Downs.
